Russian cultural center in kolkata. Theres a beautiful auditorium. Many cultural events are held there. Entrance has got a big hall where many educational fair are organised. It has got a good cafeteria. Two chess clubs are there. Allekhin chess club is very famous, many grandmasters emerged from there. There is a educational consultancy organization ( RUS education) also who helps aspiring students to study MBBS in Russia at a very nominal price, and also helps admission in same course in Bangladesh, ujbekistan, china.

Calm environment. Looked like the place has seen much more hustle and bustle back till the early 90s. Many busts of famous Russian personalities scattered throughout.

Place is maintained well. Auditorium having capacity of decent number of people (I guess 200+) and air conditioned. Basic amenities are available. Gents toilet, beside of the auditorium, is not spacious. Found problem with the flashes. There is a small open terrace area, adjoining the auditorium, may be useful for tea/coffee/snacks counter for any programme. Display/corridor area outside of the auditorium is not very much spacious. Noticed some parking problems for 4 wheelers outside of the Sadan because its seems like official and residential area.Overall, is good place for holding small programmes in a good budget.Recommended!!!

One of the best russian culture centre in india

Excellent place and ambience. It is a true center for learning Russian Language and culture. Here many Russian Important days are celebrated.Plays, Drama ,songs ,poems every thing is being taught here with the language. Russian Language classes by Madhabi Bhattacharyya is superb and complete. The teacher is profoundly knowledgeable and very good hearted.It is also a Center of popular Chess club .Russian classes are done in Four levels . Total 26 months around 200 hours .But it is the best place to learn the language..Basic 6 months then followed by 10 months Intermediate and 10 months advanced class.Fees also very cheap compared to other institutions.

The place evokes the nostalgic memories of the Soviet Union. Russian language class from 9 am to 10 am. (However, the timing not suitable for office goers). Beautiful magnificent auditorium and conference halls, exhibition spaces etc., are available for rent. Miler drool cafe is inside. Ideal for people preferring loneliness. Full fledged library and chess academy other beneficial parts of the building complex. Free film festivals, exhibitions every year. The strict security outside, at times make one irritated.

Gorky Sadan is the cultural centre for Russian affairs. Earlier it was for the USSR ( when it existed) and the erstwhile east European communist Bloc. They have a great chess club and many youngsters of this city have benefited from this chess academy inside Gorky Sadan. Nowadays they even have a cafe inside, which is really good serving some delicious Russian dishes as well as other European dishes. They have a good auditorium too.

One of the best places in Kolkata to learn Russian language. Located centrally with easy travel connectivity. Chess club inside also tutors the young. Has a restaurant inside too. Visa processing is also done here.

The washrooms need to be improved soon. Only one toilet is there for women n one for men. There should be more toilets and it should be kept clean.

Went to Miler Droog Cafe inside Gorky Sadan. Was a very nice experience. The security was friendly and helpful.

Gorky sadan is good for kids to learn chess, russian language. Adult also can enroll in russian language classes. One can get the taste of russian cuisines at Milli Droog restaurant onside the premises. But the place doesnt have lift and not friendly for the persons with disability.

I have been blessed to be present on 6th june in gorky sadan as an invitee to attend the celebration for russian language. The atmosphere and the enthusiasm of the participants were divine. Students teachers and respected consul general was also present . Music poetry recitations stories illuminated the exhibition hall to absolutely an divine experience. Its a premier institute in imparting knowledge in russian language and culture to calcuttans.

At the ground floor there is a large hall where seminars , shows, Discussions take place. Also there is ALEKHINE CHESS CLUB, a great seat of learning the chess game. The faculty had been so far stalwarts like DIBYENDU BARUA, SURYA SEKHAR GANGULY, VISHWANATHAN ANAND, GARY KASPORV(VISITING), KONERU HAMPI, and others. There is EISENSTEIN CINE CLUB in the name of famous Film Director SERGEI EISENSTEIN. Award winning films from different parts of the world are shown. There is a library full of costly valuable books. There is Milee Droog coffee shop. There is a Literary Club. There is a course and higher studies on RUSSIAN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE. If somebody wants to learn Russian language they are welcome. It needs renovation. No air conditioning system working, lights insufficient in galleries. Auditorium stinks with filthy smells. Chairs are torned.

Raunak and I went to a coffee shop located within this Embassy. Milee Droog Café and Bistro was its name. Brilliant coffee and delicious foods are the very first things that come to me. Economical too. And for the other things in there, it really amazed me to find a place so rich in cultural heritage.

Film screening of various countries,Exhibitions on several topics along with India Russia friendship.आजादी के सत्तर साल Programme was organised every month during 2017 with Punjabi Sahitya Sabha.In this program in the first session a talk organised about one Freedom fighter & in the other session a multilingual Kavi Sammelan was conducted. The main organiser was myself Rawel Pushp with the help of Mr.Gautam Ghosh of Gorky Sadan.
