This restaurant still has the essence of an old charming place. One of the best places for a nice family dinner. The ambience is very good and the quality of food is also very well maintained along the years. Must visit place for me and family. We ordered some cocktails, starters here are amazing and the green chutney is an all time favourite.
Well I love the food they provide... Its like I used to eat from here since I was 8 and now after so many years they since managed to maintain the quality of the food... Yeah its a bit expensive but if you want good food and proper hygienic ambiance then you may spend some extra bucks and the staffs were also quite humble and the service was also quite quick and efficient... Really enjoy coming here and yall should also give it a try
Nice place to hangout with friends. Family restaurant option is at first floor.
Amber deserve 4 Star but I gave 2 due to servent misbehaving with us name not remember but the guy do not serve well and mistalk with us on date 26/09/21 at last table .
Nice food. The quantity is less. Not enough for one person.
It is a good dinning place for eating out with friends and family. It is a multicusine restaurant. They also serve drinks.
I loved the behavior of the staff. He guided me with which indian bread to order so that nothing can get waste at last.
Pathetic, expensive, poor quality n taste. We were visiting from mumbai and were taken there by a local driver. Extremely poor... Taste, expensive too. Tandoori maida roti which couldnt be chewed, tasteless paneer butter masala, pulav rice of poor quality... Extremely bad. Plz do not visit.
Taste and ambience is Good. But price is ver high and absurd for Beverages.
Decent place for family outing. Food taste to be improved.
Its a good bar and restaurant where you can have decent food and drinks at a reasonable price.
The signature dishes paneer butter masala and pindi chana was tastelessChef has been changedManager was very rude to those who were complaining
One of very old Bar & Restaurant having name and fame.Visited after almost 15 years during visit to Kolkata with hope to relive old days but was disappointed. While entering I was insisted to go on 1st floor section where they did not serve as it was almost closing time. Didnt the staff know that 1st floor is about to close??Washrooms are not maintained, pipes were leaking which made the floor dirty. Hygiene wise I give them 2/10Unacceptable with kind of rates they charge.Management has become very poor and I have lost the craze for this place.
They have the best paneer buttermasala in town without doubt.
Amber the name is enough and that is the main problem of this almost heritage restaurant. I heard the name of this restaurant from my father and he goes to this restaurant with my mother before I born. I also go this restaurant alone with my parents when I was a kid. So you can understand its a nostalgic place for me. Now I came to the food test its a hell and heven defarent old test Vs new. I visited this place with my wife last week and we ordered mutton rogan josh along with some other dices. The test of the rogan josh, I can say very poor. This is not at all rogan josh its just a mutton cary. So in my opinion avoide this restaurant.
Very good ambience, food quality is also very good. Table service is actually one of the best I have ever seen. Table arrangement almost made me feel like I am in a 5 star hotel. Waiters are very polite, properly dressed. All the staff seems like they know their job well. Washroom was very clean. You can bring your family here, but bear it in mind, hard liquor is served here. They also have a very good collection of hard liquor. They have different cards for food and liquor which is a very good arrangement. Ultimately if you want to have peace of mind from the crowded Street of Dharmatala, u can come here and rest.
Amber is one of the best restaurants in esplanade. Its litte bit costly but their food is delicious.
A time travel restaurant with food not living upto its name.Thumbs up - A great restaurant with interiors which will take u back to 90s and honestly its really refreshing to see such a classic fine dining restaurant of the 80s & 90s or probably dates back even before. I really liked the the way the staff were dressed. Coming to the food we had ordered the Hara bhara seekh kebab and Tomato Soup for starters. Soup was ok but kebab was superb. It was full of flavors and the taste was very old school. It felt like the ingredients and recipe hasnt changed even a bit since its inception. For main we went for Kabuli Nan, Masala Kulcha and Butter Nan along with Dal makhani, Paneer tikka butter masala and Veg fried rice. Honestly the breads were so good that u can have it alone with pickle and onions, u dont need any other sides with it. It was fluffy and sweet and baked to perfection. Probably the most fluffiest Nans ive ever had. Dal, Dry Pindi chana and Paneer was ok not that great. Rice was really good and it was good to see vinegar onions served on the table. These days ull hardly find vinegar onions being served on the table.Thumbs Down - Both dal and sabzi were a let down honestly. Many new restaurants are serving better Dal and Paneer than this. This actually spoilt my mood as i had heard about this place to serve really good food. However i even felt that the non veg and other kebab items shouldve been great as hara bhara kebab was delicious. All in all it was a pleasant experience however i do need to visit again specially only for Non veg. Hoping that to be really good. Also i noticed one thing that people visit it with their clients so it seemed to be more of a business lunch / dinner place.Price for 2 - 1000 excluding drinks4/5*P.S - Serves alcohol.
Worst food quantity was. Less quality was bad only its good for drunkards nothing other than that
Specializes in North Indian & Mughlai dishes... Food, Service & Ambience are equally good...
Revisiting an age old classic over a family lunch. Ambar has a family fan following since I was tiny and I coming from a primary vegetarian family, owe my love for non vegetarian food to this place. I was very scared after various negative reviews I had read but thought that 35 years of loyalty deserved a fair chance to prove itself. And I must say that I was not even slightly disappointed.Tried the following favourites :Chicken BhartaCheese cherry PineappleChicken reshmi kebabFish malai kebabChili PrawnPindi ChanaPaneer butter MasalaChicken bhartaBrain masalaMasala kulchaTutti FruityAll of the above were exceptionally tasty. Ambar still has my loyalty intact.
Food is alright, very good service and people are courteous
Visited this for my aunts anniversary and really enjoyed it and loved the experience of it all. Its a good place which serves both veg and non veg and the waiting staff is really friendly and the atmosphere is good and their food is really great. Really good place!
Its a good place to have a nice treat
Good ambience but average tasting food
Worst food. The quality & taste has detoriated.
Food price are on the higher side in comparison to the taste.
Lovely ambience....true authentic taste of food
One of the best & oldest restaurant in Kolkata.✓ Happy with their service.✓ Cleaness.✓ Food Quality.✓ Food Quantity.✓ Preparation Time.✓ Table Service.✓ Staff Behaviour.✓ Value for Money× Need to upgrade their food presentation plates. 2018, still steel plates for Food Presentation in the top famous restaurant in Kolkata.
Very nice quality food.. I have being visiting this place since childhood and there are people who are serving here for generations, currently 2nd & 3rd generation staffs are serving.. Awesome service staff and managers. I love this place and its environment.. I would recommend people to explore this place.. 👍👍👍👍👍
Staffs behaviour was pretty good
Delicious food and great ambience 👌👌 Enjoyed a lot with my student 😊
The restaurant is located in the heart of the city of joy. Have been to this place a number of times in my childhood but somehow we lost touch with this heritage of a place. After a frantic search on the internet for a good place to dine at, with a pocket friendly rate card, I decided to visit Amber. I came back to this place after a gap of 10 years and my oh my, I wasnt disappointed at all. The simple yet elegant decor manages to open up ones appetite. They have managed to retain most of the old staffs, the only thing which has changed about the staff is that now they sport grey hair (humour intended). For the starter we ordered Chicken Badami and Fish Orly. Unlike other places, the Chicken Badami was extremely soft. It can be said that it was melt in the mouth. It wasnt chewy, but was tender and juicy. The Fish Orly was delicious too, Vetki strips fried in cornflour batter accompanied by sauted vegetables. I was missing tartare sauce so i asked the waiter as to when will the tartare sauce arrive. He smiled and said, Sir we do not serve tartare sauce with this dish. He probably could see the sadness on my face and excused himself. Within a minute he came with a small bowl of tartare and said, we do not like it when our guests are sad while doing the most important part of living i.e. eating. The hospitality is a big A+. Very gentle, caring and helpful management. For the main course we ordered Butter Nan, Fish Tikka Masala and Chicken Jambori. Butter Nan was soft as cotton and spread with ample amount of butter. The Tikka Masala had 6 big chunks of Vetki fish dipped in a reddish brown thick gravy, with cream on top. The Chicken Jambori is not on the menu card. It was the suggestion from our kind waiter, and it was worth taking his advice. The chicken breasts were scrumptious. Chicken breasts cooked in white sauce accompanied with veggies. The flavour of oregano, thyme and pepper in a single sauce can never go wrong. It looks like Chicken in Creamy White Sauce, but the taste is different. It has a more fresh and Mediterranean flavour compared to the latter. On a whole, we had a great dinner and were full till our head. The food, in terms of quality and quantity has impressed me to a great extent. It is a beautiful place for family time or a romantic evening with your special one. The dim light is an add on to the classy ambience. They have maintained their legacy and the flavours are intact. Overall a very good experience.
Everything remains same as the good old days.
Amber has lost all its taste and quality as far as my todays experience is concerned.PATHETIC IN CAPITAL LETTERS...
The paneer butter Masala was a staple food ones , but now its totally diferrent the quality is way down , the old taste and touch is gone, wont try again at least till its improved
Food was awsome , quantity was quite good.
Its an old restaurant but still has been maintaining food quality. Good place to eat out with family. Plz try Fish livergin at Amber.
Service is good. But food is overpriced compared to its price and quantity. People visit there just because they use to come here in old times. Otherwise food and ambience are not that good to charge such high prices per dish.
It was an amazing experienceMy last visit was in 2012.In 2021, the food quality and ambience remains the same. They have been maintaining their legacy.
One if the best kitchens of the city. Fish quality is simply awesome. Hospitality and personal attention to the fullest.
The ambience of the place is wonderful. The staff are very gracious and very welcoming. They are sanitizing the tables immediately after customers are over with their food. Very good food preparation especially the fish. All fish dish in amber are very delicious.
Nice ambience, service and delicate behavior of staffs
If you are food connoisseur... Go and taste chicken princess, chicken mayonnaise, baked fish, fried fish, kebabs and Indian cuisines...I bet you are going to love it
Awesome ambience, but price of a bottle of mineral water is way tooo expensive😡😡😡
Really beautiful food quality 👌
The ambience and decor gives a nice impression. But the food is overpriced. The food is up to the mark and the appetizers are really tasty. The main course are also good but doesnt live up-to the expectations considering the prices.
Bad ambience in ground floor only drinkers they should open 1st floor for family sectionl
Dont see any reason to choose this for family dinner. Typical Indian bar, with a separate floor for family. Food is below average, price is in higher side. Good for people from nearby area to have a quick drink in the evening.
Good ambience. Good food
Worst food quality good for people consuming liquor food quantity and quality both are worst
Good Restaurant with bar facility. Very good for family get-together upstairs. Food quality is good, ambience is very good. But price is somewhat on higher side. Location is convenient, metro connected.
One of the older restaurants of this area and very reputed. They have separate sections for Bar, Food Bar and Family and also provide Take Home service. The food and clientele both used to be good in the past. Of late both these have deteriorated. Clients are too unruly and staff service is also very much wanting. Prices are on higher side. Ambience is the only good thing currently.
Excellent reshmi murgh tikka, the mutton bada kebab is a must-try and theroghanjosh looks deceivingly simple for its flavours. Down all of it with a signature lime soda.
The baked fish is amazing, do try. The staff is polite and well mannered. Kind of old school dining experience
This restaurant is one of the historical ones of kolkata.Come down for lip smacking starters and dinner. Also do go for Kabuli naan.U would not have tasted the ultimate.ITS SIMPLY AWESOME.
Good food.. Nice place to visit with family
Good place to eat and Drink. Tipping is a big problem here. Being one of the oldest and having oldrr staffs
Kebabs were awesome.
A bit shabby.. over all food qty was good and staff are really good.
Very clean, good quality food available here.
The taste of food has detoriated very much than before, especially the truty- fruity ice cream also disappointed me this time.Except this the hygiene and maintenance is allover good.
Always a good experience
Its one of oldest resturant in kolkata . Must try place for fish finger and tata sauce , dal Makani and Nargisi kima 😋😋
Ambiance good but very much crowd noise
Extremely expensive. Worst interior ever! Upar se taxes!
Nice food patronizing from 1971 !
Fantastic as usual...
One of my favourite restaurants in Calcutta.Food is great and value for money.
They have switched their quality.
One star because the strawberry float (not float though) tasted like strawberry ice cream. Yay!Other than that, the chicken roast was dry and the chef apparently said that chicken will be dry because the sauce cannot go inside..The aloo parantha had no flavor. The makki roti was way tooooo fat.Overall, a bad family dinner experience!
Excellent food available
It was better earlier. But now not upto the mark.
The food was not good as it was not cooked properly and it is also very expensive
The place was once historic and very famous(Check out the elevator to understand when i say it is old). Its clientele has dwidnled over time along with its upkeep.Food is really good but expensive. On a one way street. Parking is usually available on normal days.Fish Livergine. Chicken Reshmi Masala. Tooty Frooti are really good!
Great experience with food and the atmosphere. . Well mannered stuff also
Located in Commercial place and best place for business meetings
Excellent service rendered by the people working there. Food quality is also goodOf course good quality of food and serviceIs also fine. Everything is fine no problem of anything no matter of any complaint. Good night. Goutam Chatterjee.
Chicken bharta must try. Moderately priced food. However, most importantly no temperature checks are done at the entrance for Covid-19.
Good non veg
