When I visited Kolhapur recently, I went to this awesome place. Museum situated 10 kms away from Kolhapur City. It is 4 kms away from ‘Pune-Banglore’ Express highway. In this museum you can watch many things about Indian history, culture and lifestyle. Advantage is that this museum is descriptive which helps you to understand. You will find statues with proper description. You can visit Siddhgiri Math and Shiva Temple which is very near from Museum. Really nice place. You will surely enjoy this place.

Nice place must visit
Some amazing sculptures, grt Indian history.
The museum has been a home to almost all aspects of a quintessential Indian Village. All the traditional trades like farming, weaving, tailoring, fortune tellers, etc. are uniquely captured in the form of lively models. The other elements of village life like festivals, market are also vividly represented. This is a must visit place if you are affectionate about Indian culture !! Kids would also enjoy and learn a lot from the model village.
Its a very good place to visit with family and kids. You can experience good old times from rural India here. Very well maintained.
You can visit it if you have time. It consumes a lot of time apart from travel. The replicas of ancient times till modern life style of locals are good but too many. Entry charges are too much, as this is not a historical monument nor there any history attached
New generation must visit here. They might not know how was the village life in past. About 40 years ago what things were important and available.
The sculpture museum is huge and well maintained.
Very good way of presenting cultural aspect. Makes easy to explain it to children. Something interesting for every age group. Keep 3 hr for visit.
Siddhagiri Gramjivan Museum (Kaneri Math) at Kaneri, Kolhapur district, Maharashtra, is a sculpture museum. The full name is Siddhagiri Gramjivan (Village life) Museum. It is situated at Shri Kshetra Siddhagiri Math, a campus built around the Moola-Kaadsiddheswar Shiva temple. The museum has an old shiva temple on the grounds. It is related to the which nisargadatta belongs. It is believed that a shivaling was installed by a lingayat priest on a beautiful hill in the 14th century. About 500 years ago, a Lingayat Priest, Shree Kadsiddheshwar Maharaj, developed and renovated it, and hence the place is now known by his name. The temple includes a 125 feet (38 m)-deep well, a 42 feet (13 m) Shiva idol, and a large Nandi bull. This museum showcases different aspects of Gramjivan (village life). Gram means village and jivan means life in the Marathi language. This initiative was the dream of Mahatma Gandhi, and was created through the vision and efforts of Siddhagiri Gurukul Foundation. The history of self-sufficient village life in Maharshtra, before the invasion of the Mughals, is depicted in the form of cement sculptures. Each sculpture is lifelike and represents activities performed in daily village life. There were 12 Balutedars (essentially artisan castes), and 18 Alutedars who provided equipment to carry out domestic and professional tasks. The museum is spread over 7 acres (28,000 m2), and the surrounding countryside is beautiful, with lush greenery. Every aspect of village life has been depicted in almost 80 scenes that showcase more than 300 statuesThe scenes of village life include:Village priest’s abode. The first scene is the house of a highly educated village priest. He performs his duties, rites and rituals like weddings and thread ceremonies, and is tasked to find auspicious days and times for any major activity such as house-building and house-warming activities, digging wells, sowing seeds, piercing nose or ears. He earns his livelihood from Dakshina (donations) he receives. He consults the Panchaang (almanac) for finding auspicious dates.Goldsmith at workIronsmith shoeing a bullockBarber shopVillage well - villagers fetching water from the public well.Nursing an elder family memberGrocer’s shop - a woman visiting the grocery shop with her son. The efforts they took to built this place are totally worth appreciating.. Good work u people😎👍..must to go place atleast once to visit this museum the creative work with so much detailing is worth seeing and specially a good place to take your kids out to spend some quality time seeing those old days lifestyle of the villagers...And a great nostalgia hit to elder people visiting this place..the excites you very much seeing the creativity and those statues but later it goes quite boring because its too much to see and frankly u jst cant handle seeing so many statues at one place.. Be quick while visiting orelse it gets very boring..its a huge place it takes a lot of time to completely see this place so it gets quite boring if u r not fast.. Dats my personal opinion i felt a lot boring and was almost running to get out of that place.. Now its upto you..😋😄😉👍😎
