An ancient temple named Kukurdev is situated in Khapri village. The dog is worshiped in this temple. It is said that the devotees who come to visit this temple get rid of cough and there is no fear of dog bite. It is said that this temple was built by the Nagavanshi rulers in the 14-15th century. this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. There is a statue of the dog in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. There is also a Shivling beside it. This temple is spread over a radius of 200 meters. The statue of dogs has been installed on both sides of the temple entrance. People worship Shiva as well as Shwana (Kukurdev) in the same way as Nandi is worshiped in common Shiva temples. It is believed that there is no fear of coughing or danger of dog bite by visiting Kukurdev. There are pictures of serpents in all four directions of the dome. There are also inscriptions around the temple at the same time, on which the settlement of the Banjara, the moon and the sun and the shape of the stars are built. Apart from Rama, Lakshmana and Shatrughan, a statue of Lord Ganesha is also installed here. A fair is held here on Mahashivaratri and Navratri, in which people from outside the Balod district reach. It is said that people also burn Jyot in Navratri here, which fulfills their wishes. There are also statues of other deities in the temple complex. It is said that there was a settlement of Banjars earlier. A Banjara named Malighori lived in Vasti. He had a pet dog. Once there was a famine in the village, the gardener Dhoti took a loan from the village moneylender. But the gardener could not return the loan to the moneylender. In such a situation, he pledged his loyal dog to the moneylender. One night the moneylenders house was stolen. In the morning, the dog dragged the moneylenders dhoti in the mouth and took it to the place where the thieves had buried the stolen goods in the ground. The moneylender got all the goods on digging the pit. Pleased with the dogs loyalty, the moneylender decided to free him. He wrote a letter to the gardener Dhoti and hung it on the dogs neck and pointed it to his owner. When the dog reached the owner, he got angry. He felt that the dog had run away. Angrily he beat his dog to death. He then looked at the letter on the dogs neck. After reading the letter of the moneylender, the gardener Dhoti was very sorry for his actions. He buried the dog at the same place and built a memorial on it. He then installed the dog statue there as well. Since then this place has become famous as Kukurdev Temple.
