Ordnance Factory Kanpur is one of the 41 Ordnance factories under the aegis of Ordnance Factory Board(OFB), Kolkata. It was conceived in the year 1942 as Transplantation Project in the wake of impending threat of axis powers emerging from eastern front during World War II. The factory is located on the Kalpi Road at a distance of eight kms from Kanpur Central Railway station.

I am working here from 14 years. It is a heavy ammunition factory under ministry of defence, govt. of INDIA . It is a very big industrial factory having more than 4000 employee. Thank God I am serving for nation here.

Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) is one of the Largest Producer of Large Caliber Barrels in the world.Ordnance Factory, Kanpur (OFC) was conceived in the year 1942 as ‘Transplantation Project-II’ of Gun & Shell Factory, Cossipore and Metal & Steel Factory, Ishapore in the wake of impending threat of axis powers emerging from eastern front during World War II. Initially the facilities were created for providing support services to Royal Air Force war machine.The factory has firmly established its place in the manufacturing of large caliber barrels, ordnances and ammunition hardwares. The factory supplies most of its production to its sister factories for end use by Indian Army. A few products have been manufactured for use by Navy, Air Force also.General InformationThe factory is located on the Kalpi Road at a distance of eight kms from Kanpur Central Railway station. Nearest operational civil airport is Lucknow, about 85 kms away.The factory is spread in an area of 68.60 Hectares. The Armapur estate with 3439 quarters, caters for day to day needs of employees of all OFB establishments including Small Arms Factory, Field Gun Factory, Regional Controller of safety, Ordnance Factory Institute of Learning. It is also abode for all allied establishments of DGQA and CDA. The environment friendly estate has educational institutes, stadia, hospital and other social infrastructure to meet basic needs of residents.The factory has strength of approx 3600 employees. This includes Industrial employees, supervisory staff, Group ‘B’ and Group ‘A’ officers.The manufacturing processes in factory have evolved by acquiring world class production methodology and “best in class” plants and machineries.In order to ensure manufacturing of Quality Products for Indian Armed Forces, the factory has detailed manufacturing and inspection schedule for each item from input to final stage. The critical points in manufacturing processes are independently checked by production as well as Quality Control Group. An independent Quality Assurance Group continuously carries out process audit of various components.OFC has extensive facilities for inspection and test of material at each stage of Manufacture at NABL Accredited Lab for Chemical/Mechanical/Metallurgical Tests, Ultrasonic Test, Magnetic Particle Testing, Dye Penetration Test, Spring Load Testing and Burst Test for Packing Boxes.Factory regularly interacts with reputed agencies and institutes like IIT, Kanpur for technical studies and quality improvements.Factory has implemented Networked Quality Database Management System (NQDMS) – a step towards transparency.The factory has undertaken large scale modernization of manufacturing and quality assurance facilities, with a motto of “Building Quality product through Modernization”.

This gun factory only makes that guns which are more effective and powerful than US fire arms ;)
