This temple is facing east with a pond in front. The 3 tier Rajagopuram is on the west side. The anctum sanctorum is about 3 feet below the ground leve. Nandhi and palipedam are in front of the mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum consists of Sanctum, Arthamandapam and a mukamandapam. Stucco images of Lord Shiva with Parvathi and the story of this temple at the entrance of the mandapam top. There is no moorthams in the koshtam.In the prakaram sannadhi for Vinayagar, Garudeeswarar, Valli Devasena Subramaniyar, Kala Bairavar, Navagrahas, Suryan, Naalvar, Saneeswarar, Thirukurippu Thonda nayanar.As per the legend, Thirukurippu thonda Nayanar one of the 63 Nayanmars, used to wash the clothes of a Sivanadiyar every day and has the power of knowing the wishes and needs of sivanadiyars. Lord Shiva wants to show his Bhakthi to this world, he came to Thirukurippu Thonda Nayanar’s Village as a Sivanadiyar. Gave his cloths to wash and said he does not have any other cloth to wear. Thirukurippu Thonda Nayanar promised to return back on the same day after washing. After washing he hung the cloths for drying. Iraivan made to rain and the clothes become more wet till evening. Since he could not fulfil his promise, Thirukurippu Thonda nayanar tried to kill himself by hitting his head on the rock. Iraivan holds his head with his hand and appeared as Rishabaroodar and blessed him. To prove this, the temple is being maintained by the ‘Ekaliyar” ( washermen) Community.There is a Separate sannadhi for Garudeesar. As per the legend, there was a debate between the two wives of Kasiba Maharishi about who is beautiful among themselves. When asked Kasiba maharishi, told that Kathru was more beautiful than Subarunai. So Kathru put Subarunai in jail and said will be released if she give the Amairtha to be brought from Indra loka. The Garuda, born to Kathru went to Indraloka and defeated Indra and brought the Amirtha. On the way he met Thirumal and had a fight for 21 days. To appreciate the braveness of Garuda, Thirumal asked him to get a boon. Instead, Garuda asked Thirumal to get a boon. So Thirumal asked Garuda to become one of his Vahana. After releasing his mother Kathru, Installed a Shiva Linga in this Garudeswaram and worshiped. After worship Lord Shiva, Garuda became the Vahana for Thirumal. Worshiping Lord Shiva Garudeeswarar, one will conquer their enemies and will be relieved from the troubles during this birth.
