TLDR - Great place to cut away from city life, amazing out-in-the-wild experience, great hospitality.. but be aware of the challenges of living amidst nature!I traveled in Jan 2020.Pros -1. Absolutely brilliant place for people who want to get away from the noise and disturbance of city life. The tents are is nestled in the middle of a coffee plantation and once youre here, you feel like you are in a silence bubble. All you will hear is the sound of rain, birds, insects and children playing in a near by village. No cars, no horns, no people shouting.. This was my favorite thing about the place.2. The caretakers there(Harish and Sahir) are very warm and welcoming. They will cater to all your requests to the best of their ability.. For example, my car broke down on my 2nd day there.. the caretakers personally ensured a mechanic came to the resort and repaired it for me. They also took us on a trek of the tea plantations nearby for an entire half day at no extra cost.3. All your food desires and needs without any complains. My partner is vegetarian and I am non-veg. The chef ensured they made at least 2 dishes for both of us for every single meal. Food here overall is an elaborate affair with no holds barred on quality and taste.4. Hygiene is always maintained in the location. The tents are very clean, bathroom is spanking and linen is fresh when you get the room.5. There are AC, fridge, TVs and kettles in the tents so you wont miss any necessary amenities.Cons -1. The cost is quite steep. Although all good resorts are priced similarly in this area, Kalpetta itself is quite a low cost far flung place.2. It is quite far from the main city or for that matter even the main road. You will have no problem if you have a personal vehicle(preferably something with good ground clearance) but if you dont, its definitely a challenge to get around.3. There are no solid doors in the tent. At night, the whole place gets very dark(there are no surrounding lights in the vicinity). Its quite unnerving the first few nights. If you are not the adventurous sorts, you might be in for a shock.4. The tent does get the occasional insect because it is in the wild. So if you are scared of bugs, rethink this option.

This is a small cozy place with around 5-6 tents surrounded by lush green coffee plantation. There are not too many amenities, so one may get bored if the stay is longed.That being said, we had a very pleasant stay.The tents were very cute and quite safe as they were on raised cemented flooring.. only the walls and above was tent. My daughter was very happy and amused.The staff was not very polished but very friendly, warm and helpful. In fact when I think of the hotel, this is the first thing that comes to mind. There was a small lake/pond over looking the hotel. When we showed intent of visiting a farm or something, one of the staff took us for a small walk/trek into the tea estate to reach the lake and play for a while.. that was another activity which kid loved.Approach can be bit tricky so hold on to the Google maps.

The location within the nature is the best you can ask for. Its approx 10km from kalpetta but auto is there that generally charges 220-250. The tents are such a beauty, it has all the amenities.Next is the behaviour of the manager and stuffs, they are so polite and very helpful.Food was homely and very tasty. They will make the food as you order.The morning view from outside the tent is just fantastic.If I again been to Wayanad, I will surely stay here. Staying with such natural vibes is what a weekend gateway meant for.

This place is some 1 km from main road and 10 km from main town, and many places are near by 15 KMs.Hence, having your own vehicle will be helpful(we took a scooter on rent from kozhikode). About the location your swiss tents(as described in brouchre) are inside a small plantation with a view of a good view and in a very calm & serene area.Special mention should be about the staff, they will be available on call 24*7 and well mannered. Thanks for the pleasant stay.

Absolutely loved it. The hospitality was extraordinary along with really good surroundings and amazing food which was served with a lot of love. If I could, I would love to go back for another stay. A very special mention to Shaheer’s “out-of-the-world” hospitality. All I can say is he is a gem of a guy!!Stayed with family during May 2019.

Best place for mind detox. Located in interiors of vythri district this places provides one of its kind experience for its guests. When you visit this place make you cover the pollalad river flowing right next to the property and the locals are very friendly to interact with. Very safe place for family to visit.The grass roots staff welcome you below heartedly like icing on top of the cake. Even taki the dog welcomes you to the property.

Stayed there in 2018, but still miss the place. The tent rooms, the food, the location all were good. Hope to return someday.

Beautiful place surrounded by lush greenery. The stay at Swiss Cottage gives a feel good vibe. The staff at Grassroots were very cordial and made all the necessary arrangements for food and our travel to nearby places.Would surely suggest this place if youre looking for a peaceful stay amidst nature.

The stay was so.comfortable. The resort owns 5 well built Swiss Tents with attached Bathrooms and balcony. A separate restaurant is available inside the property. The whole area is inside a coffee plantation which gives you a forest like atmosphere. Far from the city life you could definitely enjoy some good times.The parking facilities are limited. Only 2 four wheelers could park comfortably,but open parking is available. Food options are great. Professional staffs and hosting.

Although I loved the place, this review is to help others take an informed decision. DO NOT expect a fancy hotel with fine dining restaurant and amenities. Grassroots is located in a lush green setting with 5-7 wall less spacious rooms (swiss tents). We got a room with AC. Its a peaceful and serene place if you want to relax and be close to nature. Expect some insects, sound of birds rolling on top of tent. The staff is very friendly and will prepare food as per your wish. Prajjwal who manages the location is very helpful and welcoming.

The place is surrounded by tea plantation which gives the stay at wayanad an edge. The luxury tents were very spacious and bathroom was huge. It had all the amenities that you can expect from luxury room. The food served is very good and value for money. Special mention to staff for going out of their way to make the stay memorable. Will love to come back.

Rightfully so as the name suggests, if you are looking for an experience to literally take you to the GrassRoots, this is the place. A small 5 tent cottage resort deep in the interiors of north Kerala in the western ghats in Wayanad. 145 kms from Mysore and 90 kms from Calicut airport. The only place in South India to provide a luxurious tent. The tents are so well designed, maintained and furnished with all the luxuries you can think of and very very spacious. Even the bathroom within the tent is so much more spacious than most rooms of any other resort. The best part of the our stay here though was the staff and the hospitality we received. Since its only 5 tents that they have you kind of get a personalised attention for all of your needs, right from the savoury food, to helping you out with planning the activities that you can do locally to giving you a nice walking tour within the area estate right adjacent to the resort.

Total value for money. The rooms and bathrooms are very clean and well maintained. It was a total pleasure staying in Grassroots! Very warm staff. Loved that the tent/ room had two large beds which made it a very comfortable stay for our family of four. Would love to go back!

Before going to the place (3 couples) We thought the place would be rustic.. Upon reaching there realised what a lovely surprise package the place is. Rooms with no walls, done well to make you feel WOW! The bathroom is also super spacious and lovely. 2 rooms had either AC or TV. Only one had both. AC was much needed. Food quality was good, not much variety. The service was late, guess they were not equipped for a full booking. We were called for breakfast at 8:30am and we waited for an hour for food to be served as another family was eating. May be they were short staffed, thats all. Having said that, its a lovely place, a good weekend getaway and I would definitely recommend the place.

Just 5 Swiss tents and privacy at its best. Lovely hospitality by the staff with some amazing staff. The tea gardens and a small lake close by adds to the beauty of this place. The tents are very well maintained with all modern amenities.

I wish I could rate this place more than 5.The place has tent like rooms right there in the heart of the forest area. You cant get closer to nature than this.Hospitable people. Delicious food. Attention to detail.Clean rooms equipped with electric kettle, AC, TV, study table, swanky bathroom.Youll find cardamom, Arua( DO Google for this natures beauty ), papaya and a lot other plants/trees right outside your rooms.CAUTION: Try hard to visit this place during the day. The place might be difficult to travel to in the evening.

We stayed @ Grassroots during Christmas 2016.Its a nice cozy place, far from the city. The property itself is pretty basic, not many amenities but has its own rustic charm. The tents are maintained very well and are quite comfortable. Ideal to have a relaxed holiday, just lazing around!The staff and the manager, Prajwal are very friendly and helpful. They make sure all your needs are attended to.Breakfast and dinner were simple but tasted very good, both served North Indian style. But the lunch was mainly Kerala cuisine. Would definitely suggest improving taste and variety in lunch. P.S: Do not expect the luxuries of Red Earth Kabini here. Thats a class apart :)

Absolutely amazing place and great management. Was surprised to hear that the place is at least 9 years old as it was so well maintained. Food was awesome too. A little off the city, but isnt that what you would go on a vacation for? Nice view from all the five tents. For the first time ever it felt like they are not there just to make money but to genuinely make you (the guests) happy. I am definitely a fan.

The property is built up within a Coffee plantation on a slope. Gives a feel of staying in a Jungle. Very nice experience of staying in the luxury tents which are tastefully done. Special mention of Ajiz the Manager, who was there for every requirement of yours. Highly recommended

A very calm and excellent place or relaxation .dont go with much expectation. Place is maintained well host,chef and the boys are very good and help full. It rained overnite and it was a beautiful misty morning . They can add a few varieties in the breakfast dinner and lunch was good.Crowed is resrticted to 5 tents so u have A very calm ambiance ,peaceful location .

The concept of Swiss tent excited us. Over all a clean and spacious stay. Service was excellent by the staff. Only thing is that there is no indoor or outdoor activities in it.

Experience was good. Checkin and checkout were pretty smooth. Location was not that convenient but as expected. Location is nice. The rooms and the services were also pretty fine. I think quite suitable for the one who is looking for some adventure. Overall will rate 3.5 on 5.

The place is ideally settled away from bustling towns in a quiet part of the village facing a beautiful valley with tea plantations. Its not your another atypical resort with all the hustle and bustle and no character.I found the place to be ideal to unwind, go native and enjoy the silence and leisure of being in the midst of a beautiful part of the world. The perfect place to go wandering on long walks through tea gardens and forests without having to give up the luxury of excellent food, clean bed and toilet and air-conditioning.I will be returning to sample some of their more serious trekking routes.

The stay was amazing: host is great company, food is superb, walks and bamboo rafting refreshing, tents confortable. Even though we stayed only one day, I feel fully recharged. Would definitely consider coming back

Well maintained resort , it is set up in a plantation on the banks of kabini river, loved the huge tents.The plantation is really quiet , giving you a feeling as if you are in a jungle. Was surprised to see fog just outside tent in the mng, there is a tea plantation nearby which can be visited. Food was good, though limited in option.

Had a good and quiet stay here. The place is awesome, you feel being in the midst of nature. The only disadvantage is its too far from city and no means of transportation. You will have to hire an auto to go anywhere spending 200 bucks. The food service may be good but it way to expensive. A middle class family cannot afford to have food here. The best option to drive to city to have food.

Awesome place between the coffee estate. Going to the location is little scary after its dark.The staff is very friendly, But they dont know how to cook yet. Their Starters are bad, would not recommend anyone to order for starters. Their biryani (both veg and chicken) was damn good, Tasty.You visit coffee estate and tea estate by walk beside this resort.PS - Please do not drink their coffee think they would prepare from their coffee estate, the coffee is made from milk powder and bru coffee

Beautifully designed and homely touch. Food customised to your preference. Good for short hikes. A huge collection of asterix comics made our stay nostalgic.

Amazing stay.. Interior looks amazing air conditioned tent. Staffs were polite and food was good. But be careful as there were lot of spiders and insects which creeps inside the tent. That was the only bad thing felt about the place.

With great hospitality, this resort is a really great place. In my 2 day stay, I felt like I was in a rainforest. It was a great time there. Set in the hills, the 2 days I spent there were spent in peace.👍

Awesome lodgings tucked away amongst the tea and coffee plantations - incredible food and hospitality from all the team here. Sleeping in a (very comfortable) tent in the rainforest is a wonderful experience. Feels a million miles from the city and its all the better for it!

Catastrophy!!! This so called Hotel is far away from all human settlements between fields. No reception, no Hotel staff to welcome us...no other guests, no other cars were there. The whole facility made a horrible dirty impression, dirty table-cloths, at our long time before booked arrival after a long exhausting trip from Germany the rooms were not ready, dirty little dogs and cats ran around ...I never had eaten there anything.... and for sure in such a mess I would not get any sleep at night... so we took the taxi back to Kalpetta and stayed in Green Gates Hotel for much lower price with swimming pool and really in a nice garden and friendly staff.

This hotel is somewhat different from other hotel. Rooms without walls.Different concept. A beautiful experience indeed
