This is a historical place. For about six hundred years Assam, the present day NER was ruled by Whom dynasty , when it was finally annexed as a part of the British India in eighteen hundred eighty two. The last Ahom king died in Jorhat and he was burried here and the place is called Rajamoidam, i.e the burial ground of the King(Raja).
