A restaurant that could easily claim the award for the best restaurant in Malaysia. I would highly recommend that you give this gem a visit! The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming and the owners are wonderful too. A lot of time and effort has gone into the look and feel of this restaurant and it shows. Above all, however, is the food.Their walls are lined with awards and they deserve every one of them.

Johor’s premier French restaurant, established in 1999. The menu carries all the staples of traditional rustic fine French cuisine with an impressive selection of wines & liquor to complement the dishes...Cooked with passion by French chef & his assistants and served with warmth by friendly waiters & waitresses!👍🏻👍🏻😋😋

Service and food was generally good. Prices were also reasonable for what was served. The complimentary bread was soft and good. The French Onion Soup (RM25.44) was amazing. There was melted cheese on the top. The Leek and Potato Soup (RM25.44) had an Asian taste to it. The Greek salad (RM29.68) was decent, but the feta cheese used could have been richer, and there was way too much olive oil on it. The Smoked Fish Pasta (RM47.70) was well executed, with plenty of umami coming from the fish, and the emmental cheese providing the pasta with an amount of richness. Service could have been better - I was served pasta but was not provided with a spoon.Overall, the food is good, and this is a place I would want to return to for special occasions.

Ambience: beautiful cosy place! Deco will transport you to a different place. Really nice Christmas deco.Food: French onion soup. Felt that it lacked body, didn’t feel wholesome. Had steak and seafood marinara for mains. Both were too salty. Felt that the mash potato was instant mash. Bread offered pre meal had a strange taste and texture not ideal (it’s edible! Just not to my liking)Service: great. Staff are v warm, making the experience so nice. Chef took our comments (too salty) and offered to modify the dish with some extra ingredients which we appreciated.Cost/value for money: for the ambience and cuisine, it’s a place for special occasions. Not a place if looking for quality European food though. If do come back here, it’d be for ambience and wine

Authentic French onion soup, pleasent environment and services. For wine bar you need to follow the dress code but for the restaurant as long as youre looking decent then youre allowed to enjoy their fantastic cuisine and wine. Pricing were higher than normal dinner but as expected. A total of 9/10 dinning experience. Will definitely return for their hearty French onion soup.

Decent food but a bit over hyped on the good rating. According to a local friend, it used to be good but not anymore. Price wise is on the higher tier but still affordable. Ordered onion soup and lamb loin. I liked the soup and the grilled vegetable as it was flavorful but the lamb was a bit let down as it was a bit too hard to chew, probably my fault for requesting well done.

I went to Chez Papa French to celebrate my boyfriend birthday, I got a shock that it require a smart casual attire (no slippers, no singlets, no shorts), but thankfully the owner was really nice to let us in still and provide us with crocs. They provide free bread before the meal which I thought was really nice. For appetisers we had French Onion Soup which I thought was really nice, big portion with a huge slab of cheese on top, herbs and caramelised onions. We also had scallops and prawns with a white wine cream sauce which was I find the the cream sauce was special because they added white wine, for this the portion is really small 2 scallops and 2 prawns, but it was just nice for us because only 2 of us. For mains (forgot to take picture) we had sirloin steak, medium rare as what we wanted and the pepper cream sauce is also nice. We also ordered a pesto linguine, which was really nice as well, though I find it a little too creamy, and the portion was huge so at the end it felt too jelak. I also like their service, because it was my boyfriend birthday they gave complimentary cake with ice cream and drew out the words Happy Birthday and even sang the birthday song. They really go the extra miles for their customers and deserve 5 star, because you know they don’t have to but they choose to. Overall really a pleasant place for special occasion and would definitely come back and try their other dishes.

Been here multiple times before and the food it’s good and really affordable. The Foie Gras and Escargots are good starters. The Foie Gras comes with 2 slices and I love the gravy! Escargots are served with herbs and garlic. For mains we ordered the steak and the lamb cutlets. The lamb standard had dropped. Was looking for the slightly crusted batter but there wasn’t much. Ordered a medium but was served well done. The steak as well, ordered a medium rare but was served a medium. The creme brûlée and the chocolate mousse were good. Love the service!

Then we also had a special salad of greens with brie and pomegranate in it.We had a good time as the staff were friendly and Shereen helped entertained our baby. Premium French dining experience in an unfortunate location. Chez Papa is surrounded by motels and nestled in a street swarming with listless women. Not the ideal environment for upmarket dining, to say the least. Arriving on a weekday night, we found the restaurant desolate. Even so, the food took a great while to arrive, giving us time to appreciate the homely furnishings and devour the free bread. The omnipresent French dish of escargots ($30 for six) were fantastic, served in shells and slathered with pesto sauce. It had a consistent and firm texture, a testament to the quality of ingredients. Duck terrine was interesting (picture), though not to our taste. We found it akin to eating duck infused canned tuna. Wagyu Steak ($88 per 100g) was tender and succulent, though the presentation is incredibly underwhelming for such a dish. Foie Gras ($85)is absolutely perfect, soft inside and browned outside. The homemade pasta ($40-60) is spot-on, creamy and tasty. Made with boiled and blended prawns, the Prawn Bisque ($28) was very thick, with a taste akin to concentrated prawn noodles soup. The experience was completed by the professional and responsive waiter who systematically explained the entire menu to us. Besides the sleaziness around Chez Papa, the largest drawback was the price. Our dinner for five set us back around RM500, which is aggravated by the fact that we were already half full. On the bright side, there was free flow bread to fill our bellies. Overall, Chez Papa offers a complete French dining experience at an eye-watering cost. Garnished with fantastic service and authentic food, this place earns a solid recommendation for those to whom money is no object.

Their chef was from French and super friendly, highly recommanded for those who looking for authentic French cuisine, although abit pricey for most of you but their food really worth the price. Their hickory wood smoked fish pasta, foie gras chaud, French quiche and so on, trust me, you wont regret to place order. Their bread is delicious & free of charge, served with butter. Some of the ingredient was imported from Italy and the the culinary skill is fantastic! First impression of the place was that it is a rather casual restaurant that just so happens to serve French cuisine with a slight Italian deco. For dinner, I had the mushroom soup and lamb cutlets (rack of lamb). The mushroom soups was good. It was made with mushrooms with a dollop of cream on the top. However, I believe it would have been better with a stronger mushroom flavour (perhaps more porchini mushrooms). The lamb cutlets was doused in brown sauce, which I don’t think was very French, for a supposed French restaurant. The mash potato was dry and had the consistency of mashed cauliflower. However, the side of grilled aubergine and zucchini was delicious.TL;DR Ambience and food does not reflect the intention of being a French bistro.

We read the good reviews and came to this french restaurant to have a try. But its a huge disappointment. We ordered their fillet mignon, the steak came Im quite certain its not fillet mignon. It looks and taste like a ribeye but at fillet mignon price of RM138. The steak was drenched with so called truffle reduced sauce but its just taste sourish only. For a good steak, you certainly dont want it to be served fully drenched with sauce and no taste of the meat. The mash potato not real potatoes but those instant mash. Quality not up to the standard at that price range.
