A smaller mosque within the Jerusalem walls.Has plenty of history but is sadly quite forgotten about as it isnt close to the Dome of the Rock.It’s quite hidden away as it is tucked into the Christian Quarter but be sure to make the effort to visit it!

This is the place where Omar (or Umar) ibn al-Khattab, the 2nd Caliph, offered prayers in the holy city of Jerusalem. In April 637, Caliph Umar traveled to Jerusalem in person to receive the submission of the city from the Patriarch of Jerusalem, Sophronius, who made it a condition of surrender. The Muslim troops besieged the city some time in November 636. Instead of relentless assaults on the city, they decided to press on with the siege until the Byzantines ran short of supplies and a bloodless surrender could be negotiated. Jerusalem remained under Muslim rule until it was captured by Crusaders in 1099 during the First Crusade.

Mosque of Omar Al-Khattab must be the REAL site of MASJIDIL AQSO as written in Quran Chapter 17 verses 1. The one which were built by Abdul Malek bin Marwan and was NAMED as Al-Aqso is the fake Masjidil Aqso and therefore it caused so many conflict between the followers of Muhammad and Sons of Israel. The Al-Aqso is just a trouble maker which contrary to what were written in Quran about the characteristic of MASJIDIL AQSO.

After Omar Ibn Al-Khattab received the keys of Jerusalem from Patriarch Sophronius, Omar addressed the people of Jerusalem, saying: “Oh people of Jerusalem, you have our money and you have what we owe.” Then the Patriarch invited him to visit the Church of the Resurrection, so he accepted his invitation, and the prayer overtook him while he was in it, so he turned to the Patriarch and said to him, “Where do I pray?” He said: “Your place is praying.” He said: It is not for Umar to pray in the Church of the Resurrection, so the Muslims come after me and say, “Here, Omar prayed and they build a mosque on it.” He moved away from it by throwing a stone and spread his cloak and prayed, and the Muslims came after him and built on that place a mosque called the Mosque of Omar. The construction of the mosque dates back to the Mamluk period, and it is not actually the site where our master Omar prayed. Because the entrance to the church changed from the east in the time of Omar Ibn Al-Khattab to the south during the Crusader period, after which the mosque was built, believing that it was the site where our master Omar Ibn Al-Khattab prayed.Umar gave the people of Bayt al-Maqdis a written covenant, the Umar Covenant, and that was in the year 15 AH.
