You can see the important archaeological site of the Pool of Bethesda amongst the grounds of St. Annes Church in the Muslim Quarter off El-Ghazali Square in the Old City.I walked around and through the excavation site at Easter last yea. This was a nice time of the year to visit as there were spring flowers in bloom amongst the ruins.
The Pools of Bethesda are mentioned in the Bible as a place where people came to wash in the curative waters and as the site where Jesus cured a paralyzed man. Today the excavated pools are in the Muslim Quarter of the Old City Jerusalem about 50 meters inside the Lionsโ Gate (known in the Biblical-era as Sheep Gate, as sheep would be brought into the city through this gate for sacrifice at the Temple). The pools are within a complex with the Church of St. Anne marking the home of Maryโs parents Joachim and Anne. The pool was originally excavated in the late 19th century but work on the site has continued for more than 100 years. Excavation of the site revealed that the pool was divided by a wall or dam creating two separate basins. A flight of steps leading down into one of the pool basins indicates that it could have been a Jewish ritual bath (mikvah). The second basin would have been used to collect and hold rainwater to keep the mikvah constantly supplied with fresh water. In the Bible the pool is described as having five porticoes, this would suggest a five-sided pool.
For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had. John 5:4
Location shown on the Google map is wrong. It leads to a wrong place
10/10 would recommend the healing here.

The Pool of Bethesda was a pool in Jerusalem known from the New Testament story of Jesus miraculously healing a paralysed man, from the fifth chapter of the Gospel of John, where it is described as being near the Sheep Gate, surrounded by five covered colonnades or porticoes. It is now associated with the site of a pool in the current Muslim Quarter of the city, near the gate now called the Lions Gate or St. Stephens Gate and the Church of St. Anne, that was excavated in the late 19th century.
...just coming back from the Holy Land of Israel...the Pool of Bethesda was among the most precious site visited... It holds dear in my heart
Of all the places we toured, this one was most touching because we know jesus was actually here, healing the sick man. Wonderful archeology.
Ancient biblical landmark loved it
I was not inside.... cant get Google to get that i was only standing outside ;)
We traveled to our Holy Land, State of Israel, on a journey of faith, visiting many important historical sites.Bathesda was an interesting discovery.
I have rated 5 star because the Pool of Bethesda is a very important place to visit! However, please check with a nearby christian tourist advice center in Jerusalem, in other to be directed to the right address. Unfortunately, we relied on the Google Map but it was incorrect when we visited the pool. We were later informed the pool is by the Old City (Muslim Quater) Path of Beth Zetha Valley in Jerusalem Israel.
Archaeology has enabled a pool at Bethesda in Jerusalem to be identified as the scene of one of Jesusโ miracles. This was the healing of the paralysed man who had waited for 38 years for someone to help him into the pool โwhen the water is stirredโ โ an event believed to have curative powers. The Gospel account says Jesus told the man, โStand up, take your mat and walkโ, and immediately he was made well (John 5:2-18).The location of the Pools of Bethesda โ actually a series of reservoirs and medicinal pools โ is in the Muslim Quarter of Jerusalemโs Old City, north of the Temple Mount and about 50 metres inside St Stephenโs or Lionsโ Gate. At that time, the gate was called the Sheep Gate, because this was where sheep were brought to the Temple for sacrifice.According to an ancient tradition, Bethesda is also where Jesusโ maternal grandparents, Anne and Joachim, lived โ and where his mother Mary was born. The Church of St Anne, built around 1140, stands nearby. The compound containing the pools and the church is owned by the French government and administered by the White Fathers. It also contains a museum and a Greek-Catholic (Melkite) seminary. The Byzantine empress Eudocia had an enormous basilica constructed over the Pools of Bethesda in the 5th century. The church was called โMary where she was bornโ.Its central aisle covered the central rock wall, the side aisles extended above the two basins and the front part covered the site of the ancient healing sanctuary. The basilica was destroyed by the Persians in 614 and its masonry ended up in the pool. The Crusaders built a small chapel, the Church of the Paralytic, over part of the ruined basilica. The faรงade, main entrance and apse of the Crusader chapel can be seen standing high over the pools, giving a clear example of the practice of building one church over another.
Pool of Bethesda is great and well worth a visit... BUT it is NOT HERE it is in the Old City of Jerusalem. Somebody is having fun with google maps as within a 50m radius google maps list the:1 New Guatemala Embassy in Jerusalem2 Islamic art museum3 BethesdaI just jogged there to see the new embassy, it is NOT THERE but there is a lovely retirement home where the very nice elderly guard offered me water and an explanation. He sees many people like me arrive at his doorstep! In Hebrew Lo Po means Not Here and that is exactly the story!
Just NOT the place! The Bethesda pools are in Old town at St Anneโs church
Its an old country not big one but plessed place
Nothing now. A building is coming up. Already checked with locals.
This is just a marker in the middle of Jerusalem. Google please fix the map .
The Bethesda pool is not where google maps leads you. The pool of Bethesda is INSIDE the Old City and it is inside/behind St. Anneโs church inside the Old City. Google St. Anneโs church Jerusalem in Old City and this is where Bethesda Pool is located. Enter through the Lions Gate which is across from the amount of Olives. Go to St Anneโs church which is close to the entry of Lions Gate and its on the right side. Thereโs a sign and a window saying Bethesda. When we went it was closed and the church area next door told us to come back at 2pm so we did and were able to finally see it. Google maps led us to an area when we typed Bethesda pool that was wrong and by an Islamic art centre and theatre and some buildings being either renovated or built or torn down idk-this is not where the pool is.
Nothing here. Waste of a ling walk! Could not put less than 1 or i woud have!!
Cool place
Wrong place marked on Gmap. Bethesda is inside of the old city, in which church of St. Anne is.
Hystorical place when Jesus made a miracle
The Pool of Bethesda (where Jesus healed a paralyzed man) is located in the Muslim quarter of the Old City, next to St Annes church, near Lions Gate. Its not where Google locates Bethesda on the map!
Great
This is a duplicate. And this location is wrong. Bethesda and the pools are by the Lion Gate
Isreal - the Apple of Gods eye

Holy!
Santana Church and Bethesda Tank. Joaquim and Ana are the parents of the Virgin Mary, about her birth and her childhood through the second century Gospel of James. Early Christian traditions locate Joachim and Annes home near the large Tank which was a popular healing center - the Pool of Bethesda, which we know from the Gospel of John. In 1856 the Ottomans offered the church to France, and she it was entrusted to the Missionaries of Africa, or White Fathers, who to this day welcome pilgrims. The church of Santana is located at the beginning of the Via Dolorosa in the Muslim Quarter, just inside the Lions Gate at the eastern entrance to the Old City (Jerusalem - Israel). The complex is an oasis of peace amidst the noisy turmoil of Arab markets. The church is known for its extraordinary acoustics, and visitors are invited to sing their hymns of praise to God before descending to the site dedicated to Marys birth. The solid pool complex and ruins of the Byzantine and Crusade churches are still well preserved. Visitors can descend into the cistern where there are water remains, as a memory, or perhaps an invitation to all those who are still seeking healing in this important place in the history of salvation.
Place of emotions like all places that indisputably refer to biblical texts.I quote John 5: 1-91 Then there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 2 There is in Jerusalem, near the Sheep Gate, a swimming pool, called in Hebrew Bethzada, with five porticos, 3 under which lay a great number of the sick, blind, lame and paralyzed. 4 [In fact, at certain moments an angel would descend into the pool and stir the water; the first to enter it after stirring the water was cured of any disease he was suffering from.] 5 There was a man who had been ill for thirty-eight years. 6 Jesus seeing him lying down and, knowing that he had been like this for a long time, said to him, Do you want to get well? 7 The sick man answered him, Sir, I have no one to immerse me in the pool when the water is stirred. In fact, while I am about to go there, someone else gets off before me ยป. 8 Jesus said to him, Get up, take up your bed and walk. 9 And immediately the man was healed, and he took up his bed and began to walk.If the review was helpful to you, please click on the hand, thank you.
Bethesdas pond is located in the courtyard of St. Annes Church, in the Old Town. I provided location information to Google, but no changes were made. So its in the old town !!ๆน If you are from Japan and you go to the pond in Bethesda, you can see the pond in Bethesda by going to St. Annes Church. ๐ตโบ๏ธโจ
The place is inactive and inaccessible to visitors
An amazing water collection system from the time of the first and second Temple, accompanied by later ruins from the Byzantine and Crusader period.
The Pool of Betzaeta (Hebrew: ืืืช-ืืกืื, literally: house of Mercy), was located in Jerusalem. It is mentioned in the Gospel according to John 5 as the place where a miracle of Jesus took place in favor of a paralytic. The description of the Gospel emphasizes that it had five arcades. Following the restoration undertaken on the Church of SantAnna in Gerusalemme in 1888, the remains of two large pools with five arcades were found. A rediscovered fresco located on one of the walls represents an angel moving the water (and this detail is mentioned in the Gospel text).
Pool of the Bethesda. Here Jesus healed a paralytic, on a Saturday day!
It is not the place where the betzaeta pool is located .... But the betzaeta pool testifies in the ancient city near the temple
A place wrapped in magic and calm. Well-preserved ancient buildings. Spectacular 360 degree views. Recommended in all seasons.

The place was closed for public viewing. What a shame!Very important place for Christianity.
I came to this place 4 years ago. And see how God touches and heals sick friends. In this place to this day God is still working and healing his sick children. There is a lot of healing happening in this place when we really pray with faith ..
In the time of our Lord Jesus Christ it was a bathhouse that had five narthexes. Once a year, the Angel of the Lord sanctified this water and the first who entered the water after the sanctification was healed of any disease. Here the Lord healed a man who had been ill for 38 years and could not be the first to get into the water, as long as he reached the water, the other before him descended into it. After the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ, the Angel no longer illuminated the water, and it lost its healing power. Now there is a historical museum on this site, and we can survey the excavations of ancient Bethesda. Paid entrance.
Theres an entrance next to St. Annas Church at the lion gate, not here. 12 oclock? There is a break time until 2:30? Adults 10NIS students have admission 8NIS. There is also a Korean manual and beautiful.
Great for a Saturday morning outing!
Ruins of a pagan temple!
Jesus worked miracles here, where there are plenty of archaeological remains of the historical place
There is nothing in this place. Bethesda can be seen near Lion Gate.
Not particularly interesting
The location on Google Map is incorrect.
One of the places where biblical stories took place. A blessing to go there. I recommend!
Jerusalem is the capital of the Muslims.
Everything is as in the photo, only on the map in the wrong place - but In the old city near the lions gate
Pool ruins where Jesus Christ healed a paralytic (John 5.1-9). It was called Probรกtica because it was outside the wall next to the Probรกtica door, where the cattle that were going to be slaughtered in the temple entered. It is mentioned in chapter 3 of Nehemiah, but it is not said to what its healing power was attributed.
It is a wonderful holy place
