It is a legendary figure for all post-Soviet people and everybody who is familiar with the movie Only Old Men Are Going Into Battle, iconic Soviet war film produced in the Ukrainian SSR about World War II fighter pilots.The statue represents Leonid Bykov who was writing and conducting this movie as well as acting in it as a main character.The monument is dedicated to military pilots who died during the liberation of Ukraine at the World War II.It is ACCESSIBLE only if you come from the Lavra Monastery side, cause otherwise you will need the underground passage or Bridge of Kisses without asseccible options to get to the monument.

Highly recommended. If you dont know this great actor - just enjoy one of the best views in Kyiv.
