The irony about visits to exotic places is that the sights, sounds and taste give you the thrills but there is that one moment when you have a craving for food one is used to, albeit for a fleeting moment. It was one of those moments we experienced as we approached the Thiksay Monastery, outside of Leh – it was the Café Cloud. The welcome to the restaurant was endearing with an elderly gentleman ushering us in.The Café has a ranch like setting. There is ample parking and as one gets into the restaurant, the expansiveness of the restaurant just about sets in. There is a good selection of covered and al fresco seating. Given the time of day, we opted for the covered area. The place also has a nice, clean restroom. Ambience gets a two thumbs up.The menu is rather extensive with all kinds of cuisine – it is the Western European cuisine that stands out, though. We ordered the Tum Yum Soup with chicken, Caesar Salad with chicken and the Chicken Roast. The Tum Yum Soup was excellent, with balanced flavors and a good measure of finely diced chicken pieces. The Caesar Salad was also excellent, with two caveats, I was not so sure about the dressing and in place of croutons, the salad was served with strips of toast. Not bad at all! The Roast Chicken was by far the best dish we ordered. The chicken was perfectly cooked, it had a good measure of healthy, crispy veggies and a remarkable rosemary jus. The result was a taste explosion. Food gets a two thumbs up.Apart from the warm welcome we received, the table service was rather blasé. Although we did not need suggestions, it appeared that the wait staff did not have the desire, much less the inclination to be of much assistance. That said, the service timing and sequencing were really well orchestrated. For all those reasons, Service gets thumbs up.The unsolicited advice that I would offer up is: should you find yourself in Leh (or the neighborhood) all Momoed and Thukpaed out and are craving for a change, Café Cloud is the place you should be looking for. That was my take away. Loved the place
