Very well organized museum about local block printing. Inside a beautiful haveli house, the museum has also a little garden where you can have some drinks or snacks, an oasis from all hustle of Amber fort area. Besides all the nice exhibits you can also watch three crafts master on work, really interesting! The museum shop carries some interesting items, I bought a traditional textile board game and a bag to be hand-printed. Must visit if you’re interested in textile.

If you like textiles, this is a great place. Seeing the history of block printing, and watching artesans continue the tradition by hand, is a lovely experience. The staff are informative, kind, and generous with their time. You can pay to be able to block print a handkerchief of your own. I recommend seeing the fort, coming here, and stopping off at the step well all in the same day as the trip out to this area can take quite a while

A must visit to understand the history and techniques of block printing in Jaipur. A moderately big Haveli which has been restored beautifully to facilitate the museum. Though they dont have a guide or a map, the displays are fairly self explanatory. The place gets hot though, so please take enough water. The craftsmen on Level 01 will show you how to carve blocks and print on plain cotton cloth...tip them if you wish to. Their skill is really intricate and tedious. The Museum Shop is small and lacking as compared to the Anokhi shops across the country, but some of the books explaining Block Printing heritage of nearby villages, are very intriguing.

Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing is a charitable foundation that works with an objective of preserving the traditional customs and works of artisans living in Jaipur. This foundation provides employment opportunities to several artisans by nurturing their talent and skills. It also aims at reviving the age old tradition of hand block printing, with a special focus on the traditional hand printing methods and techniques. This museum is situated in the ancient Chanwar Palkiwalon ki Haveli (Anokhi Haveli) which is pink in colour. The trust also organises live demonstrations of the hand block printing craft, done by the local artisans. Furthermore, there is a cafe and a shop inside the museum that sell handmade products like jewellery, cards, books, furnishings and clothes.

You can watch masters carve unbelievably intricate wooden printing blocks and even have a go at printing your own scarf or T-shirt. There’s a cafe and gift shop, too.A trip to the Amber Fort is a popular destination when touring Jaipur, but visitors are increasingly adding what critics have called ‘a little gem of a museum’ on to their list as well. In the Fort’s shadow and a mere ten minute walk through the cobbled streets of Amber, the historic capital of Rajasthan, lies the Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing (AMHP). Located in a magnificently restored haveli or mansion, the museum displays a varied selection of block printed textiles alongside images, tools and related objects – all chosen to provide an in-depth look into the complexity of this ancient tradition.Like crafts worldwide, the block printing industry faces serious challenges trying to keep pace with modern manufacturing. The Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing addresses this fragile situation primarily through education. Dedicated to the art of block printing, AMHP strives to inform both textile specialists and general public alike; but more importantly, the artisans themselves are encouraged to visit and view their craft in a unique and inspirational way. Hopefully visitors from India and abroad will leave the museum a little wiser, and also more sensitive to the need of protecting this enduring heritage craft for future generations.

This place is a must see, not only for textile enthusiasts but also for visitors interested in heritage restoration of small residential properties in Jaipur/Amer. This stunningly restored haveli, houses the stories of several hand printed textiles of India. The exhibits come alive through maps, historical documents and enormous range of textiles. The printing processes are very well illustrated through stage-by stage exhibits. only once one has seen these exhibits, does one realize the labour of love that goes into Ajraks and Bagrus! In the live demo-section, we hand printed a scarf from wooden blocks; one could also print on Tees at a nominal cost. Thank you Anokhi for this wonderful experience! I would love to go back... p.s: dont miss the shop, they have great museum publications of major printing techniques and their stories with swatches of real fabric stitched onto the pages, and also some exclusive prints that you can only get at the museum shop!
