If you like sugar, this is the place. Like so many Asian restaurants, everything is over the top sickeningly sweet, I guess for the typical American palate. Ordered half a duck at and got two legs and thighs. I questioned it and told it was technically half of a duck. When does anyone order half a duck and expect to get the “back half”? The sauce the duck was swimming in tasted like a spicy sweet-and-sour sauce they probably came out of a jar.Higher end prices, lower end food.
We tried the tapas style dishes. The menu was very interesting and everything seemed like it would be delicious. Unfortunately the execution was poor. The won tons had a fishy taste, the scallops were rubbery, the tamarind wings didnt taste like tamarind, etc. All 6 dishes were a miss.
Great service, great food. We tried several tapas, all of which had wonderful balance and texture. The lotus root fritters were delish. We were surprised by the low amount of.the bill! Six tapas and shared dessert - $56.
Absolutely delicious. Had a big spread of tapas with a group, and I only wish we could have tried more. Very friendly staff, and comfortable atmosphere.
Duck super overcooked and tough (panang curry with crispy duck). Beef was okay, but overcooked. Chicken (photo below) is literally raw in the center (Tikka makhani). Server was extremely rude and tried to gaslight us into saying we are wrong about the food that we are literally consuming. Very condescending attitude, offered nothing to compensate for this. Will not be returning.
For vegetarians, I would definitely recommend - Lotus root fritters and Panang curry. The food was delicious. The best dinner place around Ithaca downtown!
Came tonight for the second time, and was more impressed than the first! They got us in right away (WE came at a good time). They were busy when we got there, and had very limited staff. However we received fast and perfect service. I work in the industry in a very busy environment and can recognize when a staff is at their limit. These guys were close and even so they killed it. I didn’t wait too long for a single thing, always had water in my cup and dessert right on time. Thanks Mias
We were excited by the menu - asian fusion tapas dishes? Yum! Unfortunately we were disappointed by every single item (brussel sprouts, wontons, chicken wings, scallops, deep fried lotus) except the Thai chili beef with sticky rice. We ate outdoors, blinded by the setting sun and surrounded by hornets. Service was a miss too. Usually tapas dishes arrive one or two at the time so theres some pacing, not everything all at once. When trying to settle the bill the wait staff was no where to be found.
This was single handedly the best meal I have ever eaten. I JUST left and I am so impressed by how delicious it all was, how knowledgeable our server was, and just overall experience. The chef(s) deserve a Nobel prize in culinary achievements.
We went here of christmas break a couple years ago. We sat at the bar, had excellent specialty cocktails, great food, and the bartender was a pleasure as well. Well be heading there again next time we are in town.
May come back but I was thoroughly unimpressed. Super expensive wow. Not the kind of quality Id hoped for
Food was awesome, service was horrendous. We had the most inattentive waitress I have ever had. Had to 3 other employees walking by for our check, and it took 20 minutes from first ask.
Great food selection and quality in combination with an excellent service.
We were visiting Ithaca Commons and decided to check this place out. Glad we did. Enjoyed the Tapas selections, everything was delicious. The tasty food, relaxing atmosphere, and attentive service make this place a winner. Will definitely be back!
Great food with classic asian flavor, the tapas and cocktails were great and reasonable prices with great service!
Service was on point - Melanie served us. Very friendly and comes by just the right number of times. Attends to detail such as giving us a new plate after our first dish which had a strong intense flavor. Cocktails - although a bit pricey, you get good quality. Had the Boulevardier. The food itself was almost too flavorful that you couldnt really enjoy it. I think it was the Yum Tun (not sure about the name) salad - the dressing was too sweet - the only criticism of the night.
Waited so long. Even after seated, the food came one by one, took forever. The food is not even that good. It is overpriced. Just not worth ir
Excellent food: great ingredients perfectly prepared. Fantastic waitstaff. Wonderful ambience and décor, with light jazz always playing in the background. You will be happy that you tried Mia’s.
The dessert tastes so good. The service is good. But I don’t like the main course.
Classy sit down restaurant with fantastic food and great service. We like to come here for the good atmosphere, full bar and our favorite Asian food in town. Many vegetarian options.
We ordered the Ahi Tuna sampler (a special that night). It came with 4 pieces of sashimi. For $15 I anticipated 6 pieces, but it was delicious so I’m not complaining! We also ordered ramen which was good. For our entree we ordered the pan-fried red snapper with prawns in a Southern India Kerala curry. It was AMAZING. Hand-down the best red snapper I’ve ever had. The service was great too-and they were very accommodating. If you want unique cuisine visit Mia!
Ive eaten here a number of times and I am always ecstatic about the food! Quality and flavor are top notch. Probably my favorite Ithaca restaurants.
Delicious meal with great service. Friendly staff, good atmosphere, and a menu to satisfy any pallette
Phenomenal food and cocktails. Service was top notch.
Delicious, hopping for a Tuesday night!
The tamarind wings were fantastic. We all shared the lamb and beef Tikka kabobs and ended up fighting over them. I had the Curry chicken and found it to be one of the most tender and flavorful Id had anywhere. We sat on the outdoor patio and could social distance while soaking in the atmosphere. Service was top notch with our server Ploy.
The staff was kind enough to take our order on call as the wait list was more than an hour. The food was absolutely great! A pleasant surprise with the fusion of all South Asian cuisines :) tamarind chicken wings and Kerala eggplant curry is a must try!
First time there, enjoyed there chicken satay, chicken tikka makhani and beef stir fry. Good quick service and nice ambience.
Dear god the food is good. If you need to take a date somewhere... This is it.
Yes.This place is amazing and has all you need for a lovely evening out: great staff, great prices, great drinks (the cava is good!!) and amazing food. The spices are spot on, the flavours overall are to die for. We had a lovely dinner here and were completely full after sharing four tapas dishes between us two. (But there’s always room for dessert and those were yummy as well.) omnomnom!
Really bad service. We put our names and numbers down at for outdoor seating and was told it will be 30-45mis, they said they will call us once a table is ready. We never got a call back and we went back before 9:30pm (thats when they close) and there was an empty table there but we were told that we cannot be seated because they are closing. They NEVER called and refused to seat us although weve been waiting for their call for over 30mins!! Unbelievable service, for people that value their time, dont bother going, because they definitely do not respect peoples time nor the customer!
Worst service ever. I ordered the traditional wings and was served Thai baby wings instead (as a side note, my waiter said there 8 baby wings and there were only 5). At first, the waiter was nice and asked if I wanted anything else. I told the waiter I wanted an order of the wings that I ordered. When the bill came, I was charged for both wings (both the one’s I ordered and the one’s that I didn’t). Upon talking to the waiter, I was told they would not remove the charge because I ate both wings (even though they admitted it was their mistake). The staff proceeded to charge me a 20% gratuity for the terrible service. To conclude the night, my waiter teased me and my group on the way out (saying I hope you gentleman have a wonderful night with a smirk on his face while knowing we were very upset because the staff wouldn’t remove the charge).
Always great food and drink here, one of my favorite spots in ithaca
Very swanky.
Very good mushroom soup, and tasty food overall
Food was excellent. Various dishes had very different spices and sauce. Mushroom small plate was quite tasty. Seemed very unsalted compared to many Asian restaurants.
Dont come here if you actually want to be seated. Waited over an hour just to get the run around. Poorly managed and seems to be serviced by kids.
Cold food, an over extended junior waiter, and a total lack of professionalism from the manager made for a waste of a lot of money during a night out with the family.Four of us ordered about 12 small plates. Of the first three that came out, 2 were cold and the rice was barely warm. We sent them back. 15 minutes later they come back out, and were just warm.Of the several other plates we ordered, the pork buns and pork belly plates were warm but you couldn’t even bite thru the pork belly it was so tough. 3 of the other plates were also just cold, but due to the lack of a waiter that was trying to serve about 40 other people by himself he never came back.We honestly had decent food but it was cold, except for the pork dishes. When we spoke to the manager she said she’d give us free dessert and really didn’t seem to care about what had happened. Let’s see, all of your food I got already had issues, so you want to give me more, lol. Eventually she took 3 dishes off the bill. Thinking back we should have just left after the cold food issue on the first 3 dishes.Word to the wise, if they are busy, go somewhere else and definitely don’t sit upstairs.
Had a fantastic dinner at Mia tonight! It was my first time eating there and I was really impressed. There were four of us and we had Tapas, sharing the small plate dishes. We Loved the soup, the Korean BBQ Beef filet, and the Lobster. The service, the presentation of dishes, and especially the flavors were all excellent! I highly recommend this restaurant.
One of our favorite restaurants in the region. Wonderful variety of dishes from many cuisines. All delicious and beautifully prepared and presented. Service is also great. Very attentive but not overwhelming, knowledgeable and helpful. Save room for dessert!
We love going to Mia! Highly recommend the divers scallops or roast duck entrees. Lots of interesting combinations and accommodating for vegetarian and vegan options. Friendly and helpful staff.
Tuna salad and pork belly were both excellent. Pork in the pork buns was dry and tough. Service was glacial, and I had to wait half an hour from when I finished eating until I got the check. Overall, food is good if you know what to order, but plan on a lot of extra time spent waiting
Great find in the region. Food was excellent and fairly priced, staff was excellent!
Great little Asian fusion place. Very hip and comfortable. Absolutely loved my dish. Great vegan options and even dessert
Great experience. Fast and friendly staff. Fantastic atmosphere. Tasteful food. High quality ingredients presented with great care. Kind of expensive but it deserves the money you spend.
The food was great and the servers were friendly as well. The bartender was a good friend of mine but she has since moved on. She was the biggest reason I would go their. One of my childhood friends works in the kitchen and he is a culinary wizard. Good sea food for the area we are in. There is not much of that around. The only reason I dont give it five stars is because apparently the owner made fun of me back in the kitchen because I was talking to him about what makes a classic Tart a Tart. I was a professional Pastry Chef for 6 plus years so I know a little about it. Well, he didnt like my opinion.
Best restaurant for uniqueness in the whole area. I would drive 20 miles to come here for a special meal. I love the house made Thai sausage, but I cant keep ordering it, everything else is too good!
Good selection of tapas, good atmosphere
Great food, amazing service, atmosphere is great for a date.
Food and service were great! Loved the atmosphere!
Great little find off the main drag
Service and interiors are just exemplary.Food is overrated and overpriced.Waiters are just poets and so is the menu.I definitely wanted to see the taste come through but sadly it didnt in all of my dishes.
Mias was a treat, simply delicious food and the staff were very accommodating with food allergies. The staff charged with clearing plates and refilling water were extremely attentive and courteous but I would say that our waitress could improve. When I asked for tea they didnt list the options and just brought me chamomile which I would have been fine with if it was the only tea but the couple sitting next to us did hear about all the other options which I would have liked to have. I will take this as my own fault however and try to learn from this but still only four stars unfortunately.
Mia is my favorite restaurant in Ithaca! All of the food is really well executed, creatively composed, and beautifully presented. There is truly sometime for everyone, I have enjoyed meals here with gluten free friends, vegan friends, etc. Check average is about $25/person if you dont have alcohol. If you do drink you could easily spend $35-$50 depending on what you drink.
Perfect evening. The food was delicious. One thing was better than the next. The service was warm and friendly. We were able to have a lovely relaxed evening with our 6 year old and still enjoy exquisite food at a sophisticated beautiful restaurant. One tip. Dont skip dessert. Incredible!
Im unsure what has earned this place high rating here. The food isnt bad, its just not interesting. The menu items are a mix of Asian inspired dishes, but the tapas dont seem to have any obvious connection, such as well-matched flavors or unique cultural representations. The restaurant atmosphere is trying for upscale which I guess aesthetically it achieves but the service is definitely not. Overall, I have no interest in going back, but I wouldnt fuss if friends really wanted me to join them.
Mia is the fifth Ithaca restaurant of our most innovative chef Lex, who has done more to raise the culinary bar here than anyone. It is our favorite fine dining experience. I have had more memorable dishes here - and more dishes that Ive ordered multiple times (when theyve been available) than at all other Ithaca fine dining restaurants combined. The Asian/South Asian/Mediterranean flavors and ingredient combinations in their appetizers, main dishes, and desserts are creative, sometimes surprising, and delicious. There are some misses - inevitable if youre trying to innovate. And this is not a place for Grandma or for people who think fine dining involves a nice piece of meat with well cooked vegetables; go to Aurora St. for that. The ambiance is sophisticated and comfortable, and you can carry on a conversation without going hoarse.
We were very hungry and tired after driving for 10 hours. What a great choice. Our waiter, Jon, was relaxed, informative, and attentive - but not doting. We ordered quickly, asked for a beer recommendation, and within minutes the savory food arrived - and the delicious beer. We felt so fortunate to have stumbled upon this wonderful eatery, which was clean, quiet, friendly, professional, and well priced (two of us with 4 delicious appetizers and drinks for under 40 bucks). Ithaca offers a lot of dining options, make Mia one of them. Well be back....maybe tonight!
Best in IthacaMy new favorite when visiting our daughter at Cornell. Food presentation & taste are excellent. Great wine offerings.
If you going for the atmosphere great place. Friendly staff as well. When it comes to food I’m not the expert but I don’t think it was anything special but again I only tried one dish and a bit from my daughters plate.
Service is always great. Servers and hosts are very polite and welcoming. Food is wonderful, but portions are a bit small and the price point makes this a place that I cannot go as often as I would like! Still, one of my favorite stops in Ithaca.
The servers are on top of their game - really know the menu and arent afraid of making recommendations. We went with friends and relatives and every one of us had a fabulous meal. Seems like a well kept secret. We will definitely go back if we are ever in that area again.
Great food and ambiance! The service was great.
Was better than average. Would have liked it even more if I was more Thai food familiar.
Good service and atmosphere. Food was very good...small plates are nice, you can try a lot of different items
This was a foodies kind of place. The food was as good as it gets. The atmosphere was clean and inviting.
Good food nice atmosphere
Some of the dishes were very good including the Thai beef tapas dish and the panang curry however other items were quite average and the flow of service for a tapas restaurant was snail-paced. The restaurants ambiance was great with fabulous artwork and a cool vibe, but the food could have been much better for the price.
The service was amazing, and everything we ordered was delicious. We will definitely be coming back to try more of the menu.
Fantastic food with unique flavors & preparation. Highly recommend this restaurant
Amazing food with great atmosphere
Lovely setting, great South Asian/Indian Fusion cuisine. Not a pure Indian Resto, but a great addition to Ithaca dining.
Amazing tapas and Asian fusion! A bit pricey, but worth it.
We have been here many times, and it is always a treat. Mias sports well labeled food restrictions and prompt friendly waiters, and most importantly delicious food.
Great, hostess was super and service was awesome
Gorgeous food, wonderful staff brilliant overall must go
Their asian tapas are the best I tried everywhere. Great service too.
I absolutely love this place! Eat some of this, and some of that, and spend all night......its worth every reasonable penny!!!
Yea, really great food, been there twice with groups of 8-10 people, ordered lots of different tapas, all of them really good, different flavors, great sauces, you wont be disappointed, honest, unless youre disappointed by really good food, okay, maybe then, but otherwise, no way...
Definitely a place to go when you are in Ithaca. Shared 4 small plates: mussels, scallops, tandori lobster and Soba noodles. DELICIOUS. Finished with Brulé trio, another hit. Service was great. Will definitely being going back.
Do not miss the pork Slider Buns. Just dont miss them. The rest of the food is delicious too.
Food was good, drinks were amazing, but our server hardly checked in on us and ran off as soon as the food was dropped off at our table.
Decent food but overpriced and small portions. I get that thats the idea of tapas, but they need better food to justify it.
Probably the best food in Ithaca. The pork belly and duck are amazing.
The food is amazing!
Fast service, friendly staff. Asian and Indian inspired dishes were delicious!
Great food. The best in downtown Ithaca
Wow, this place really impressed. I was with a half dozen Ithaca locals and they had mixed feelings on going, but we tried it and everyone came away with a new appreciation for their menu. The tom kha soup was very impressive; just the right amount of spic. I had the Prig Pow Moo and it was really well crafted. I tried some of the panang curry and it was stellar as was the chicken vindaloo. Very good drink list. Definitely not the cheapest place in town, but worth a special visit!
Some of the Indian-inspired items taste better here than in the Indian restaurants in town. Items I liked: kohlapuri chicken wings, tandoori qail with mint raita, red-snapper and shrimp in kerela curry, lex grandfather chichen curry, dahl.
Nice food, little spicy
Ordered a dish wish prawn and was given a dish with shrimp. When I complained that prawn are not the same as shrimp I was told that it was a “linguistic thing” and that they are actually the same thing
A panoply of different asian (thai, japanese, vietnamese, indian) cuisines plus some western staples. Unusually for a pan-asian restaurant, all the dishes seem well thought out and are executed flawlessly.
One of my favorite Thai restaurant with good food and a classy atmosphere.
For that price, we each had an appetizer, an entree, a beer and a glass of sake. The chef also sent out a cup of miso soup while we waited. The food seems to be chefs take on traditional themes from all over Asia. Crispy duck rolls come already assembled, but clearly made from totally fresh ingredients and. The scallop dumplings came as one dumpling containing 3 or 4 full sized scallops which exploded on the tastebuds - they were the highlight of our evening. My chicken tikka masala curry came in a bowl and was like a thick, chunky soup. Amazing flavours. The previous reviewer said it all in 2 words: Love it.
