Staff was very friendly. Unfortunately, food value was not so good. $17 bento had dry teriyaki chicken and fish was bland. Salad did not seem fresh, perhaps too long in the refrigerator uncovered. At that price I was expecting better food quality...

Easy to get in and out for lunch. Havent been there in a long time hence the 4 star rating vs. 5 star. Planning to go again in a week and will update rating if needed.Had the baked spicy lobster roll and the albacore tuna roll (spicy).

Best sushi I have had in Irvine, how did this escape me for so long?

Stopped by around 4:30pm mid week, early for dinner I understand. The Asian hostess simply stared at me with no greeting. I told her I was waiting for a friend and just looking at the menu, instead of saying please take a look. She continued her poor demeanor that I felt so uncomfortable. When do people learn how to proper greeting guests?

Hey Maizuru! Posted hours are 11 am to close. People sitting inside, and the doors are locked! What’s up with that? You’d think with ALL the bad reviews you’d be a little more considerate of your patrons and communication.

Overall they were friendly and fast but quality of sushi average felt like a fast food sushi restaurant.

Absolutely wonderful. You have to try the garlic albacore roll. It is out of this world! The miso soup has great umami flavor, and the vege tempura is nice thick slices of veggies, tender, crispy- heaven.

We come here almost weekly for Fri night sushi. Always fresh, great service & food. Local gem!

Best Sushi around!

Came here for lunch (or tried) and they closed the door IN OUR fACE at 1:40 even though the posted hours show they are open until 2. Never coming back. They lost my business for good and hopefully others. Rudeness to customers will NOT be tolerated!

On our last night of SoCal trip in the Newport area we wanted to have a late Japanese dinner. We googled to find Maizuru in nearby Irvine. Walking in with no expectations we were pleasantly surprised with the quality of food in a casual place. The bento boxes had numerous variations such as crispy tonkatsu and tasty CA rolls. On the sashimi side of things, the chirashi bowl came with a seasoned bed of rice that added more flavor to the meal. Overall, excellent value.

For the past 3 months we tried order a take out from this place, in most cases you cant get an answer on the phone and when you get it it usually - were sorry but we close early today, even that it says on their website that they 30 more minutes till closing.Anyway - anyplace that dont want my business is not a place Ill go again.Really hope that their sushi is good, becouse their customer service is the worst thing ever.

Great sushi and custom rolls. I highly recommend the sushi bar over the bento and fried foods. Try something new instead of just California roll! They make great new rolls every time I have been in.Theres a few stylistic differences between Maizuru and other Japanese places in Irvine. The gyoza is deep fried instead of pan fried. The chicken teriyaki was a bit on the tender side but still very juicy and cooked well. The edamame isnt salted.

This place is amazing! We had the garlic albacore roll, the albacore tempura roll, and the Washington roll and they were all delicious! The albacore tempura roll was one of the best tasting sushi rolls Ive ever had; we will definitely be coming back. The buy one get one 50% off deal is amazing and all of the staff are incredibly nice. Would highly recommend Maizuru for sushi!

We had take out and enjoyed it immensely. They have few tables for dining outdoors. Ordering online and pickup was easy. They follow pandemic procedures, masks required. We enjoyed all the sushi dishes, alaskan roll, monkey brain, avocado bomb etc. everytime we had sushi in this restaurant it is consistent and good quality.

Made an order on door dash with a pick up option. Got a notification that my order was ready for a pick up. Came down to the restaurant and saw a line of people apparently waiting for their orders too. Tried talking to staff to know what’s up with my order. Was told that they don’t know and I should leave the building. I know we are in pandemic and this is stressful for everyone, but staff was very unprofessional and just plain rude to me and other customers. So I waited for 2,5 hours for my order just to hear they are closing down the place and was asked to leave. I will never go back to this place and definitely do not recommend it to anyone. Honestly, just choose another restaurant!

This is our weekly lunch date place for my father and I. We absolutely love it. Sushi is delicious!! James, the sushi chef, is friendly and funny. Hes always on point, as is Julie and Jose and the rest of the staff. Definitely recommend Maizuru.

First time attempting to order here. Didn’t even get our food. Can’t say I can even give them 1 star because we didn’t get anything. $75 worth of food ordered 2 hours ago for Mother’s Day dinner through Door Dash. My Door Dash delivery guy had to call me saying the restaurant told him “no more. We are cancelling the order”. He waited an hour for them to tell him that. Really upset and unprofessional. I know it’s a unique time with the lockdown but they shouldn’t have allowed me to order on the first place if they were going to make us wait 2 hours and get nothing. Now it’s 8pm and have to figure something else out.

Not the best Sushi I had, and I am a Sushi lover. The rice did not have the right mix, and was not cooked properly. The fish was OK but also felt not fresh. In general, this place is closer to McDonalds of Sushi.

They offer a good variety, decent prices, and often have a relatively short wait time. You can request to be in the room on the right for larger parties away from the other diners. Location is close to freeway making it a decent meet up spot.

The sashimi salad is a personal favorite - loaded with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, ahi over spring greens with a sesame vinaigrette. All the cut rolls are beautiful and delicious, the service is kind and friendly. Its classy enough for a date, casual enough for a bite after a ball game. Tucked back in the shopping center its easy to miss but worth the effort to track down.

The sashimi salad is amazing and cheap during lunch. It has a ton of fish in it, really the most I have ever had at a sushi place. The rolls are always good and fresh. The sushi rolls are not cheap though. However they do have a lunch special of buy one roll get the second half off everyday during lunch.

Our family has come here about 1 time a month for the past year. Food is not amazing but reasonable (2.5 stars) and close to my wifes work.Today will be the last time we come here. If the owner reads this, the bigger boned waitress in her late 20s early 30s was exceptionally rude. She mistakenly brought out a miso soup when my wife was in the bathroom. My mother-in-law starting eating it. Apparently it was brought to the wrong table and the waitress claims she told my mom-in-law that she would charge if she continued to eat after already starting. She also said she repeated it 3 times. Great! Unless she speaks Vietnamese she could have said it 3 more times. Heck, say it in Russian and maybe repeat it another 10 times. She doesnt speak English. Maybe trying saying it louder. Still doesnt speak English. So when we get the bill my wife asked for the charge to be removed. She refused saying that she told my mother-in-law 3 times. I dont dispute the possibility that the waitress told my mother-in-law. The fact is your brought something to the wrong table. Your fault. You are Asian. You know the old Asian lady glazed stare is not of agreement. Its a I have no clue what the heck u are talking about look.But lets just say that I was out to trick you to get a free miso soup. It is asinine to lose a customer over a 2 dollar miso. As a parting salvo, I would just like to tell people to try the sushi place across the street. About 20% more but tastier.

I visited today to order a roll for togo. They give me the roll made before and stored in the fridge. Rice is cold and hard , and avocado in the roll is not green/yellow but brownish, as it was made long time ago and stored in the fridge. Ill never go there again.
