The museum is for those who are history enthusiasts! Personally I am so I liked it! Youll find ancient sculptures, coins, artillery, manuscripts on copper plates, and paintings. Go to the first floor and youll find a beautiful semi-circular open window with artistic grills. The sun-light coming through those grills during evening time gives a magical appearance holistically. You can also find miniaturized structures of different ancient monuments. More new things such as old artifacts with interesting historical facts attached to them can be added to the museum to make it more appealing for non-history enthusiasts.Overall, you could have a good trip to museum if you admire the art and the ancient historical things there. Otherwise youll be bored.

The central museum on the main road is very easily accessible. Parking for two wheeler and four wheeler is on the main road itself there is no dedicated parking. Museum comprises of items of historical importance states back to the Gupta empire there are weapons punch marked coins and remains of architectural evidences. Sculpture remains in Museum are installed under the sky so they have been corroded due to rains from a long time. Very minimally clean wash rooms are available in the museum kindly carry your own drinking water bottle. Museum is closed on Monday.

The Museum is very much worth than money can buy. But the upkeep of the museum is pathetic. There is no clear explanation or display board to give awareness to the visitors about the antiquity and importance of the Archeology, History and the evolution of our culture from various spectrum. Also it should have placards in at least another language English as whoever comes from abroad and other states can understand.

Central Museum Indore was established as institution of education department named ‘Nararatna Mandir in 1923 by then holkar state, which was housed in a building on M.G. Road presently known as Devlalikar gallery, During the period of Holkar king Tukojirao III. The main objective of this institution was to collect photos and documents of great personalities. This institution was provided with a library. It was decided to create a museum during the time of collection of artifacts and antiquities scattered throughout the State. Consequently, in 1929 a museum was formed in Nararatna Mandir. On account of its position at the centre of Holkar State the museum was declared as Central Museum. In 1965, the museum was shifted in present building. The museum having ancient artifacts and antiquities has gone through various changes according to museology and choice of the common people. In 1975, coins gallery and antiquity galleries were formed in this museum named Devi Ahilya mudra withi. Though a gallery for antiquities and excavation material was also formed. But stone sculptures were always the centre of attraction. In 1977, the selected stone sculptures found from Hinglajgarh of Mandsaur district were braught to the museum. Consequently, a new gallery known as Hinglajgarh Art Gallery was formed. Presently, there are total eight galleries in the museum which are displayed with various artifacts subject wise. Highly Recommended !!!

The Central Museum located at Indore displays some of the rare and elegant collection that deserves the status of being maintained, for the generations to see and learn from them. The main things that are on display at the museum are the Parmer Scriptures, different coins, armours and artifices. The history of the Central Museum at Indore dates back to the time of the Holka Dynasty when the Kings of the Holka Dynasty were persuaded to submit to the British, and so, a large part of the kingdom needed to be surrendered. This included their capital also, the present Cantonment. The armors of the Holkas, their arms and ammunitions have been kept with concern at the Museum in Indore. So, the Museum at Indore which is also known as the Central Museum has all the attractions that would make a classic collection, of choicest materials. The Central Museum at Indore was established in the year 1929, and it is mainly a regional institution. It has a collection of various antiquities that have been gathered from the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh. The Indore Museum has a multiple collection of the Palmer Scriptures. The Palmer scriptures were the ancient style of architecture that originated here. The stones of the Central Museum also depicted various shapes carved out of stones depicting emblematic figures. They are done with absolute care and dedication. Precision is conspicuous in them. Apart from all these there are also numerous coins and armors those are on display at the Museum.

Located right in the centre of the city, the Central Museum Indore has a wide range of collections, especially the various sculptures depicting the rich Hindu art & architecture. Various figurines of Ganesha, Shiva - Parvati, Krishna, Dashaavataara, Lord Muruga, Kubera, are displayed. Several sculptures of Buddha are also seen here. The museum has a decent collection of copper plate inscriptions, which capture details of lands being given away as donations. Theres an interesting section on some of the artefacts excavated from different places in Madhya Pradesh, belonging to different periods in the history of the state. Also, some artefacts from Mohenjodaro period is also displayed. Theres a section dedicated to coinage belonging to different periods such as Guptas, Mughals, some Roman coins, & coins belonging to the Holkar period, and several other periods of Indian history. Also on display are some weapons. The museum is badly in need of a facelift. Its very close to the GPO & well connected by rickshaw & cabs. Entry fee is very nominal, about INR 20 for adults (Indian citizens) & additional INR 100 if youre going to take pictures.
