The Forbidden City is the most important place to visit during a stay in Beijing.Take at least a whole day for exploring the extremely huge area. There are dozens of interesting things to visit like palaces, gardens, halls and much more. We had a pleasant time there and will return one day.

A must visit for anyone visiting Beijing! The palace is huge and requires at least 4 hours to visit, that too just a few sections of it. Some sections have been converted into museums, some into temples and it’s possible that one might get lost wandering in the palace. A great place to know the monarchial history of China. The police is very friendly and always ready to help tourists/foreigners. My solo trip went like a cake walk! Fairly priced. It would be better if you watch Bernardo Bertolucci’s film The Last Emperor before visiting the place so as to appreciate the history and beauty of the palace at a greater depth :)

One of the places youre obliged to go if you walk down the street to China. At an affordable ticket price, a clean, well-kept place with the canals surrounding the palace. This place is so amazing.👍👍

We absolutely had to visit Forbidden City while in Beijing. So much history, so much to see and learn. Very nice people.. one of the locals, very nice guy, gave us a guided tour of the entire place. He was so knowledgeable. Great experience!! A must see!!! My daughter loved every minute of it.

This is by far one of the most impressive places I visited in China. The Chinese history & culture was literally written on the walls. I (of course) couldnt read it but it was beautiful just the same. The rich colors & exemplary craftsmanship were just a couple of things that catch your eye as you walk through this behemoth of a palace. There were hundreds of people there but it didnt seem crowded as many places do. I listened to every word & read every word I could understand and my tour walked through over 2 hours and I could have spent much longer. They do have small gift shops inside and I couldnt help but pick up a few things for family back home and also myself of course. I strongly recommend visiting on your next trip to China.

The palace museum is the place to visit while in Beijing. Spend more than a day here if you can as the museum grounds are filled with amazing details from the ground up. The architecture, gardens, and plazas offer more than enough photographic opportunities. There are usually a number of tourists present but the shear size of the grounds provide enough room to stretch your legs. What we found amazing is that once you entered a courtyard, there was another beyond it! It seemed to go on forever! Look up, see detail, look down, see detail. The amazing colors and finish of the grounds was just magical. A nice look into the old China and its culture.

Great Experience into Traditional Chinese Culture but DO NOT go on China National Holiday!It felt like half of china was at forbidden palace and the place was so so crowded. There were many queues everywhere. Go on a day where its less crowded and it will be more enjoyable.

Forbidden no more the Imperial Palace for the royal class is now an impressive place for the general public. Many familiar sights and scenes from films and books, happy to report that the real things did not disappoint!

A really interesting point of destination. A must see if you are in Beijing, you can spend a whole day, but I do recommend some sort of guide to explain what you are looking at. Definitely not a tourist trap. Really interesting as a large outside area which acts as one large museum. Seeing this is a great introduction to the rest of Beijings palaces and helps fill in the timeline of chinas rich history.

Grand palace steeped in history, wished we had more time to enjoy it. The architecture, thought and details were amazing. The palace grounds were vast, the stories aplenty. The red palace walls juxtaposed against the white snow was beautiful. Rent an audio guide at least or you will miss plenty of information about the antiquities and history of the Dynasties. Probably need a full day and a half just to visit every building within.Not much food to find within the palace grounds, do make sure you have a meal before you enter if you plan to visit.The Palace Museum is a must visit, will return again someday!

Definitely a must visit if you are in Beijing. Tickets should be reserved in advance as they only admit 80,000 guests per day and tickets are splits into a 8am entry or 12pm entry. Its like entering a movie set. The buildings and grounds are spectacular. Allow yourself at least 4 hours to enjoy the views explore the grounds and take plenty of photos.

An amazing museum, over such a large space, in central Beijing; incredible history. It gets very busy going inside, and you need to use WeChat to scan a QR code, to purchase tickets; but then you can easily spread out once inside; a must see location.

It’s beautiful. It’s really big and also going to be full of people no matter when you go.Tip: buy the ticket online. I did through trip advisor. I was given a code on my phone. But at the entrance the staff just looked at my passport. They entered my number into their machines and saw our tickets.Tip 2: if you’re not with a guide, rent an audio to guide it costs 40CNY (~$6). It knows what room/area you’re in and plays once you’re within the vicinity.

If you come to Beijing you must visit this ancient palace. Full of history and truly worth to spend a day or two in it!

The Palace Museum a.k.a the Forbidden City. As a Chinese arriving at this place literally gave me goose bumps. The sheer grandeur of the entrance gate itself blew me away.As you walk through the gate you can already feel the size of this place. The gate entrance alone is at least 10 feet deep. The restoration work put through here must have been laborious.If you have the flexibility of time and appreciate beauty and photography you need at least 2-3 hours here to slowly go as far as you are allowed to go. Make sure you are aware of the closing times and time it 3 hours backwards.The reason for this is as the closing time closes in the crowd thins out and you will be able appreciate the beauty of the place with less crowd. I was here early Dec and sunset is around 16:45 .. the golden light for photography is absolutely amazingThe visit to The Forbidden City is one of the few good reasons to go to Beijing, this is a must definitely go.

The best place to learn history and cultures

The Palace Museum or Forbidden City is an absolutely massive complex (the maps do not do it justice) of stunningly detailed historic Chinese architecture built for royalty. It mainly consists of a number of massive courtyards, with similar huge buildings along the central axis, and a series of smaller courtyards to ether side each with a slightly different feel and architectural style. It is a one way tour, as you can ONLY access the complex through the southern gates and exit through the northern gates, but once in you can explore at will (although much easier to move with the huge crowds than against them). You dont need to book this as a trip through a tour guide, as its perfectly easy to do yourselves, but please remember to bring your passport as a foreigner or you WONT GET IN!!

We visited here a few years ago during Chinese New Year (year of the Monkey). If you choose to visit during this time and you do not know Mandarin, I would highly suggest that you hire a local guide to escort you. It can be a bit overwhelming, especially given the large crowds that are in Beijing during that time of year. That said, it was great visiting a place that I had only heard about throughout my life. Theres so much history and amazing architecture to enjoy. Highly recommend!

Great place, it will probably take someone to visit it at least 4 hours, although you could spend north of 8 hrs easily. Amazing stuff to see everywhere and the place is huge. Expect very big crowds though.

Very good place to visit and reasonable entry price, free if 60 or over. Some sections inside require seperate entry fee.Some locals may want to take picture with you as they did with me. The locals are very friendly.There are plenty of well kept and free toilets and it is kept clean, with none of the littering in some countries. Plenty of bins both for recycling and other rubbish availableI went on a hot day but luckily lots of shaded places

Amazing palace. Covering such a large area, there is so much to see. I was there for over 4 hours and still didnt see everything.There are many small museums located inside.So many people, but a must visit.

It wasnt caked the Forbidden City for nothing... Opulence at its grandest... In the heart of Beijing.Its a must see!!Expect to spend at least half a day inside of you want to get a good understanding of the place.One can buy tickets at the counter on the left just before the entrance, by showing your passport... Wasnt trouble at all.

Very popular and full of tourists, but don’t miss this attraction because of that. It’s popular for a reason. Historic grounds, sprawling courtyards and grand vistas of ancients buildings and cultures. Even with the crowds, you can sense it’s cultural impact on this ancient land. It is full of separate museums that are worth viewing, and you can spend as long as you want in each of them. There are guided tours, we opted to go without, and still were overwhelmed with sights and information. We spent about 4 hours here, but could have easily spent more time (or less, if you’re in a rush and don’t have half a day).

Wonderful ancient palace. The architecture and the buildings are considered well conserved. The number of visitors allowed to enter is limited to 10000pax per day so do purchase your ticket in advanced at gugong.ktmtech.cn , tickets are purchased by keying in passport number for foreigners so do make sure all the passport numbers are key in correctly before making payment. When u arrive at the palace museum, just provide your passport upon entry and they can check via the system. No physical ticket is required, u don’t not need to show them your electronic ticket as well. It’s very convenient for tourist.

Great museum and temple. Architecture is stunning. Normal time to stay in is 3 hours, if you want to see every palace maybe more time. You need to separate tickets with some days in advance since the only thing they accept at entrance is your ID or passport/Visa number.

This is one of the best palace buildings I think. The place where the ancient Chinese emperors lived and worked. Spring, summer, autumn and winter will have different scenery in different seasons. This is the charm of the Forbidden City. In this city, you can also see a lot of ancient handicrafts, works of various masters.

Amazing place! Dont pay for the audio tour, it is really crappy. Pay a guide better! Start with Tiananmen park first, or it is really far once you finish the Forbidden City to come back, as entrance is closed for exiting. There are plenty of restaurant on your way out. It will take you around two hours for a quick tour. Enjoy this wonder!

I will advice anyone that wants to come here to come here during the down season. THIS PLACE IS PACKED WITH PEOPLE, we came during a summer season and it was almost unberable, there are people everywhere you go, Bring lots of drinks and maybe a towel . Such an amazing experience just getting to walk through this place. Each corridor, or wing, or even each palace held so much history and just left me in awe through out the entire day. Now the little petty cab that took us back to our hotel completely ripped us off, but it was a learning experience.

Forbidden palace is a place that you would not want to miss. This place is filled with history of several emperors. Over here, you could see well preserved architecture and be amazed that all these structures are build without using a single nail yet it survived numerous earthquakes.If you are like me, who get attracted to the rich history and would like to take time to really look through the place. I suggest you take a day to visit the place and probably during a weekday whereby there might be lesser tourist.In the forbidden city itself, theres eatery and cafe. Of course, delicate souvenirs are sold there for you to bring home a memory. And you would see pretty China teenagers, dress up in ancient costume and snapping photos. If youre up for it, you can get a set of the costume in any store outside and try it yourself. Because why not?

I advise you to take a guide to explain everything.The place is impressive, from a building to another.Details are everywhere and you have to take at least two hours to be able to see enough.The garden is something you have to not missed.

This place is so much bigger than I had imagined. You will want to get here early and spend the entire day walking through the grounds. Wear comfortable shoes. I definitely recommend the audio tour. There are special exhibits that cost a little extra but the cost is small compared to what you get to see. Truly an experience!You buy tickets in the right corner near the entrance gate. Please be sure to bring your passport with you. You should carry it at all times when you are in a foreign country.

I cant imagine anyone rating less than 5 stars to this magnificent masterpiece of historical architecture. The Forbidden City indeed worths the flight to Beijing from anywhere in the world.Take your time there, and dont forget that there is much more to see than just the main temples in the center: dont miss to visit the alleys and the little temples placed East and West! The City was not only inhabited by the emperor, but by plenty of people who were living their everyday lives.Tip: take some food with you because the restaurant inside really sucks.I believe the emperor was not a trusted customer there.

This is probably one of the most famous landmarks in Beijing. The historic and cultural significance of this place makes this without a doubt, a must visit place for any tourist. The sprawling grounds that are opened to visitors are quite well kept considering the age and massive amounts of human traffic. We engaged an official guide, not one of the touts standing around, and had a blast listening to the various stories as we walked around. For the unfamiliar, a guide is the way to go, as the place is huge, and you get to ask questions.We spent nearly a full day there, and had to still skip some of the exhibitions inside that requires payment. Yes, on top of the entrance fee, there are exhibitions here and there that requires a small fee as well. Dont be daunted by the tight security, and massive crowds, as this is really one of those places you have to see at the very least once in your life.

An important historical landmark. The Royal palace is very large. Id recommend either hiring a guide or joining a tour group as you wont really know what you are looking at without some commentary as its vast and a lot of the buildings and structures look similar. Most of the buildings you cant go inside or theres not much to see.

Obviously incredible...go early to attempt to avoid crowds! Take passport with you...youll need to use it for both security check and as your ticket once you pay. No clear information about that on location and when you are used to receiving a paper ticket it can be a little unnerving.

An amazing historic site with beautiful gardens and buildings. It may take a while to get inside but it’s well worth the wait, there are also a number of other interesting historic sites near by. There is also a train station close by so getting there is very easy.

Must-see in Beijing, with newly opened to the public areas, so that I can enjoy the old places with new perspectives. You can see lots of traces of erosion weathering and decay, and some of the rooms I used to be able to step in when I was young are no longer available, but still theres no doubt you can get a glimpse of old glory and majesty. Make sure you hydrate during the summer time. There is a fancy little cafe on westside of north gate, where you can relax while sipping some good coffee.

You should experience Forbidden City during their National Holiday ! It is fun!

You will walk a lot !! The place is amazing, somehow crowded but if you divert from the people flow you can enjoy some calm, I went on the ladders that take you to the walls and was basically by myself, you can see how big is the city from there, if you follow the crowd be prepared, it is seriously crowded, kids may enjoy it for maybe an hour, after that is too much for them, plan to spend at least 3-4 hours, arrived early you won’t regret it, and don’t forget your passport, that will be your ticket !

Located near tianmen, but dont came late they will close. If you want to enter the building you need to buy a ticket. Ticket is separately sell for Some spots. Buy one ticket for enter doesnt mean you can enter whole the area inside.

Must see!! Take time to enjoy the city. There are so many places and areas to see that it will take several hours to get through.

A historical location thats definitely worth visiting. Full of history and will definitely catch your interest. Please remember to buy your tickets online! You cant but tickets on site. One set back is that the place is very very crowded. It does not feel like an ant line but more like a swarm of bees crowding around a nest!!! Psychologically, please be prepared. This is a top tourist attraction in Beijing. Tourist from around the world as well as Chinese from other parts of the country used to visit. This is too big inside. Similar structures are there one after the other.

The Forbidden City itself is huge and can be a slow burn due to the mass of people. It is definitely worth seeing once, but I would suggest it is a one time thing. I suppose without crowds it would be better. I heard from the locals that it is MUCH quieter during the winter and so Id suggest timing your trip accordingly if possible.Whilst there, I witnessed at least three occasions where mothers would drop the trousers of their children and let them defecate on the floor of the Forbidden City. My advice would be watch where you step.

I feel sheepish writing a review about such a culturally/globally significant location as The Forbidden City. I mean- these buildings are older than my country. I had previously experienced the splendor of The Imperial Palace vicariously through film- “The Last Emperor” easily the most notable among them. The expanse is even more impressive when you consider that these buildings were constructed on human labor alone. It should go without saying that if you’re ever in Beijing, then this is a must for stops on your journey.

Incredible details in the architecture, furniture, and artifacts. Paying extra for the museum is worth it. They have moved most of the collections from the main building over to the museum. The windows in the main part make it hard to see and appreciate the decorations, but the museum lets you go inside and get a close look.

A Historic Places one should must visit when he/she goes to Beijing. If you visit here during Winters make sure you cover yourself completely as this place is too windy. You will find antiques all over, great place for seeing creativity.

Such an incredible place,absolutely stunning. It looks exactly the same like the movie/ series that I watched. Abit unreal. Im so amazed how well the building has been kept. Alot of walking but definitely worth it.

An interesting place to visit, high on the list of things to do for travelers to Beijing. Lots of information to take in, but can also just walk around and admire the architecture.

Ive had the chance to visit it multiple times as just once is not enough. It can take a lot of time to visit and thoroughly enjoy the place. Going in early is the best way to avoid the crowds and I always finish my visit by going on top of the hill when you exit the city to have a breath taking view of it.

We went a morning after it snowed and it was beautiful. I recommend spending at least four hours walking around.

This palace was declared for a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987.Built in 15 Century by Ming Dynasty and then extensively restored by Qing Dynasty in the 18 Century. It’s consisting more than 8000 rooms and spread over 200 acres.Wear comfortable shoes and don’t expect to finish all the rooms in one visit. Take your time and enjoy.Tips:1. They offer audio guide and tour guide, both of them are available at the entrance gate.2. Bring enough water or snacks , the food they sold inside is expensive.3. The ticket can be bought either online or directly at the entrance gate.

Amazing place. It is once in a lifetime experience! China has a greaat hisatorical legacy. The Palace Museum, also known as the Forbidden City is kept immaculately. It is inexpensive for a ticket, and even more so if youre a senior.

Very good museum.They have discount for students with ISIC.My suggestion after crossing ticket check go upstairs and walk along deffensive walls. At each corner tower done exhibition is presented. It is much more interesting than walk through inner years. They are very similar. You will be bored very fast 🤫.Must visit in Beijing!

Forbidden palace in Beijing. Went during summer, was around 40 degrees. Please bring an umbrella if not will get heat stroke. There are some stalls selling ice cream and plain water as well. Would recommend to visit when it is cooler so you can enjoy the museum better.

The forbidden city is one of the most spectacular sites in China. Its huge, you can spend days exploring what they let you. Structures are incredible, scale hard to imagine, history and culture one of a kind.

Absolutely incredible piece of history. Must visit if you are interested in Chinese history and arts. The palace museum is very grand and would probably require half a day to walk through. The electronic map audio guide was especially helpful and educational.For the tickets, either join a tour group or have local friends help you out; otherwise you might not be able to get in on the day. Get tickets before your actual visit. If you don’t enjoy crowds, think twice before coming.Our group visited on a week day but there were many local tourists that have absolutely no manner. Prepared to be shoved aside; the locals apparently do not understand the concept of getting in line. Security check was chaotic. Going to the washroom could be a huge challenge for the ladies. Even our Chinese friends (city Shanghai gals) were quite freaked out by those visitors’ rude behavior. Try to use the washrooms inside the palace, and not at the entrance and exit.There is also a cafe by the palace museum. The pricing is high (similar to Starbucks), but they offer really neat coffee cup design; good experience.If only the museum could do a better job organizing the crowd, I would definitely rate it a five star. It felt odd to see modern shops within the palace; those should be separated from the original structure...

The items displayed are gorgeous, and amazing, pieces made of jade and other precious gems.It closes at 5pm, and will take approximately 2 hours to see all of it. Descriptions are of good quality.

One fantastic piece of Beijing history is the Forbidden City. Surrounded by water it is a large part of the city sightseeing area. Full of temples and large areas with a fair amount of tourists. So many great buildings showing many of the techniques used in creating such a fantastic place.

One of the best place to learn the history of China, it a long walk but all is worth it. You see lot of the old furnitures and different ornament of the olden days, you will have an idea of how things work work in the past. Also learn how the other countries invaded the palace and how they looted some stuff from the Qing government. Very good walk and very good learning experience.

The great celestial empire can be seen from the visit of the great forbidden city, Beijing. What a great historic place and what a good maintainance and management. So many tourists and yet so neat and clean. What a sight from top. A must visit place for everyone visiting Beijing dinner or later. Highly recommended

Great visit. Plan 4 hours min. Lots of places to find drinks etc inside. Make sure you enter from the north gate as there is a one way system, i.e. you cannot enter and exit from same gate.

This places gives a full history of Chinese culture, both in terms of architecture and custom.It is super interesting and is very well done, in terms of the signage and information. We did not have a guide and were able to still fully enjoy the experience and learn about the different buildings, of which there were many.The space is huge, mind boggling that the area takes up such a huge area - it goes on and on and on.A must see if you are in Beijing.

I wasn’t expecting such overcrowded entrance. And thousands of tourists, but amazing views on an old palace and history worth it.Tips: you should know - your passport is your ticket for all nationalities))

Must see, despite all the masses a breathtaking place to visit. We bought the tickets directly at the meridian gate without preorder. There is a ticket booth on the right hand but please dont forget to have your password with you as it will serve as your ticket throughout the visit. Audioguides can be picked up after the meridian gate

Beijing Forbidden City SPECTACULAR

First of all there is no good food there so therefore better prepare your own food!! It’s a very touristy place and there is a lot of people most of the time but it’s really huge so there will always be some corners here and there that you will not meet anyone. Personally I like nature and therefore I do not find anything interesting in this forbidden palace because it looks the same to me everywhere. For someone who is into architecture and history, it is probably a good place to spend some time. You don’t get to go inside the rooms and the palace though.

The Imperial Palace is one of the must see sites in China. it might be a good idea to go with a guided group otherwise you may find yourself waiting in line to buy tickets for quite some time.

The forbidden palace is a maze on it own. It is base to being your own drink as there is not many vendor selling food or drinks. It is still best to exit by the north exit. Just walk from the middle and out.

Very beautiful with so many things to see. We were not very accustomed to the pushing and shoving that accompanied the massive crowds. It was chaos trying to get our bag into the x-ray scanner. By the time we got in we were both in bad moods so only stayed for a little while. It is something that must be seen when in Beijing though.

This place is packed with so much history it could take a couple days to let it all soak in. Certain places with the palace are off limits to cameras and others are off limits due to construction when I last visited. You can get guided tours by tape recorder or in person in your own language. The architecture and the fine details put into each and every thing within the walls of this city within a city. After all it was designed to keep the elite members of society from ever leaving as it was so beautiful. Truly stunning and a must see. Another item off the bucket list here as well folks. I loved my trip so much that my parents decided to come and see it for themselves. I cannot get enough of the people and culture here that i have to come back again and again

One of the highlights of Beijing and a must do for tourists. Takes about an hour or more to get through but is definitely worth the walk. It is interesting to see the scale of this palace and to imagine how many generations have seen this. It is a very important piece of history and you can certainly feel that.

Be prepared to do a bit a waiting through checks and everything to get in. For a ticket your best bet would be to arrange with your hotel to prebook one online and than you only have to show your passport to get in at the final check. Sounds weird but it works! Inside its huge area, where you can walk around for a good 2-3 hours. Definitely worth it though.

Access is challenging but well worth the effort! The forbidden city is fantastic but getting there was confusing. We had to show passports to enter Tiananmen Square first (access is free, just follow the crowds through security scans). Following the crowds in the square we ended up entering the mausoleum, which didnt really interest us. Finally found the entrance to the Forbidden city, there are signs to buy tickets online but there is also an office to buy with cash (again you need your passport for this). The Palace Museum is amazing, very long walks along stunning buildings and the imperial gardens at the end (north) are truly wonderful.

A special gem in Beijing. The palace has a delicate structure, and details. How genius the people were to build up this palace!You will understand more about Chinese empire and Chinese culture when you visit this palace.

Its may take all day for you to visit and took pictures because forbidden city is so very big, beautiful and impressive, you should buy ticket beforehand on klook its easier for you to go check in by your passport number, you can buy ticket for treasure hall and clock hall before or when you came there. I think it is beautiful the most in spring many kind of flower make it so romantic

In order to visit this place , you need to have knowledge of Dynasties of China.A historical place , the forbidden city, is surrounded by so many monuments and signs of prehistoric culture of The real China.A must visit place if you are traveling to Beijing.👍👍👍

This place is amazing. It take you back in time. It is a bit confusing where to get tickets form and that could be quite stressful since they have a visitors cap each day. Be prepared to walk a lot and allocate over 4 hours for a complete tour of the palace. We did the audio tour and we truly enjoyed it. Probably the best thing to do in Beijing.

When visiting other countries the best place to learn how their history is to visit their museum and see things and learn their historical so you can understand their culture easily.

A vast and huge palace. Beautiful architecture and interesting history. It gets very busy so best to go early.If visiting without a organised tour, take your passport with you as that will be your entrance ticket.
