This lake is situated in Sitdwar, the birthplace of Luv-Kush, the son of Ayodhya King Shriram, has mythological significance. It is said that hurt by the sarcasm of a person from Ayodhya, Purushottam Lord Rama instructed Lakshman to send his wife Sita to the forest. It is believed that the deserted forest in which he left Sita 40 kos north from Ayodhya is the Sitadwar. It is said that upon reaching the forest, Sitaji got thirsty for strength. Seeing no water around, Laxman fired a ground-piercing arrow, which turned into a huge lake on seeing the water source bursting from the earth.
