He Qutb Shahi dynasty (or Golconda Sultanate) was a territory in south India. It was initially a highly Persianate Muslim Turkmen dynasty established in the 16th century that eventually adopted the regional culture of the Deccan (Telugu culture, language and the newly developed Deccani dialect of Urdu). The Qutb Shahis were known for their secular rule. Its members were collectively called the Qutub Shahis and were the ruling family of the kingdom of Golkonda, in and near the modern-day states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The Golconda sultanate was constantly in conflict with the Adil Shahis and Nizam Shahis. In 1636, Shah Jahan forced the Qutb Shahis to recognize Mughal suzerainty, which lasted until 1687 when the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb conquered the Golcondan sultanate.

Golkonda, also known as Golconda, Gol konda (Round shaped hill), or Golla konda, (Shepherds Hill) is a citadel and fort in Southern India and was the capital of the medieval sultanate of the Qutb Shahi dynasty (c.1518–1687), is situated 11 km (6.8 mi) west of Hyderabad. It is also a tehsil of Hyderabad district, Telangana, India. The region is known for the mines that have produced some of the worlds most famous gems, including the Koh-i-Noor, the Hope Diamond, Nassak Diamond and the Noor-ul-Ain.

Historical place of Golkonda Fort at Hyderabad. Entry ticket is there and camera charges are present. Good staff and cooperative. Neatly maintained. We have to be so much patience to see all the beauty of Golkonda Fort by walk, need to walk stairs as well at few places. This Ramdasu bandhikhana is highlight. Parking is available.Very good experience.

Golkonda was originally known as Mankal.[1] Golkonda Fort was first built by the Kakatiya Kamma Kings as part of their western defenses along the lines of the Kondapalli Fort. The city and the fortress were built on a granite hill that is 120 meters (390 ft) high, surrounded by massive battlements. The fort was rebuilt and strengthened by Rani Rudrama Devi and her successor Prataparudra.[2][3] Later, the fort came under the control of the Musunuri Kamma Kings, who defeated the Tughlaqi army occupying Warangal.[4] It was ceded by the Musunuri Kapaya Bhupathi to the Bahmani Sultanate as part of a treaty in 1364.[5][6]Under the Bahmani Sultanate, Golkonda slowly rose to prominence. Sultan Quli Qutb-ul-Mulk (r. 1487–1543), sent as a governor of Telangana, established it as the seat of his government around 1501. Bahmani rule gradually weakened during this period, and Sultan Quli formally became independent in 1538, establishing the Qutb Shahi dynasty based in Golkonda.[7][8] Over a period of 62 years, the mud fort was expanded by the first three Qutb Shahi sultans into the present structure, a massive fortification of granite extending around 5 km (3.1 mi) in circumference. It remained the capital of the Qutb Shahi dynasty until 1590 when the capital was shifted to Hyderabad. The Qutb Shahis expanded the fort, whose 7 km (4.3 mi) outer wall enclosed the city. The fort finally fell into ruin in 1687, after an eight year long siege leading to its fall at the hands of the Mughalemperor Aurangzeb.[9]

This is not a separate place. This comes under the golkonda fort itself there is no separate place called ramdas jail, instead this should be said as the part of the golkonda fort. There is a great story behind the ramdas jail. This is considered to be the historical ones. Had a nice time here.

Historically important place and must visit place in Golkonda fort. In this prison bhaktha Ramadasu ( kancharla gopanna) has imprisoned for more than 12 years. From this place only his famous Ramadasu kirthanas have delivered from his voice. We can see Sita, rama, lakshmana and hanuman sculptures made by him for his daily worship in this jail. Place is being maintained well and an oil lamp is glowing to pay respect for the famous devotee of Sriramachandra.
