Raghavendra was born as Venkatanatha in the town of Bhuvanagiri, Tamil Nadu into a Deshastha Madhva Brahmin family of musicians and scholars.[3][4] His great-grandfather Krishnabhattar was a tutor to Vijayanagara king Krishnadeva Raya and his father Timmanacharya was an accomplished scholar and musician.[5] After the fall of Vijayanagara empire, Timmanacharya migrated to Kanchi with his wife Gopikamba. Venkatanatha had two siblings: Gururaja and Venkatamba. Venkatanathas education was undertaken by his brother-in-law Lakshminarasimhacharya at Madurai, after the early demise of his father, and he was subsequently married.[6]According to Raghavendra Vijaya, his triumph in debates at Thanjavur attracted the attention of Sudhindra Tirtha, the erstwhile pontiff of Kumbakonam mutt.[7][8] Though initially uncertain about the prospect of renunciation, Venkatanatha relented to Sudhindras demands and was ordained as a monk in 1621.[6] After the death of Sudhindra Tirtha in 1623, Venkatanatha succeeded him as the pontiff the mutt and took on the name Raghavendra Tirtha. He undertook a pilgrimage visiting places including Udupi, Kolhapur and Bijapur.[9] He received grants from Dodda Kempadevaraja and settled down in the village of Mantralayam, which was presented to him by the Governor of Adoni. He died in 1671 and his mortal remains are enshrined in Mantralayam. Traditional accounts report that Raghavendra asked his tomb (Brindavana) to be built around him as he entered into a state of samadhi. He was succeeded by his disciple Yogeendra Tirtha.[8] In 1801, while serving as the Collector of Bellary, Thomas Munro is believed to have come across an apparition of Raghavendra.

Good temple place. Has decently sized hall for marriages and functions. Parking place can run out faster though if you are going there for a marriage.

Spacious, clean holy place. Always crowded, people with religious feelings often visit this place. There is kalyan mantapa where marriages are conducted. The Mutt has cow shed where cows are there and any one whoever wants to perform Gow Pooja (Cow Pooja)

Except a little narrow road that leads to Mutt, rest everything is good. Mutt, wedding/function is really good with amenities. There is parking space as well.

One of sacred n biggest Raghavendra swammy mata for Hubli people, There will be rathotsva and tottala pooja every Thursday evening, one must visit the mata during Rayar Aradhane, where you find mata shining with beautiful lighting’s and flower decorations, which occur during end of August. Mata is very cleanly maintained and you find that holiness for sure once you visit it.It has also well maintained Mangal karyalaya which is also considered as one of top Mangal karyalaya of Hubli, very well maintained and has proper parking space for visitors only draw back is has very narrow entrance for mata.
