HOWRAH ZILLA SCHOOL, for me it is an emotion than an institution. I have spent here 12 years. It was established in 1845 by the British. This is the only Govt. school of Howrah district.

Howrah zilla school is located opposite of the Howrah Court. It doesnt have parking space available for vehicles but is easily visible from a moving vehicle in normal traffic. Also this is a very old school which was build by the Britishers. The school has a big playground for students and is one of the best school in Howrah district. It teaches students till plus two.

One hundred ninety citizen of Howrah applied for high English medium school and Government conducted school on 16th November 1845 before the District Magistrate, Howrah. Mr. Denalguard, English Man was appointed as first Head Master of Howrah Government School. Sri Bhagabati Basu, Indian was assigned as second Head Master of it. The school was officially established on 1st December,1845. Then the school was known as Howrah Government School. The first Head Master of Howrah Zila school was a great humanitarian Sri Bhudev Mukhopadhya. The students of Zila school first appeared in the Entrance Examination of Calcutta University in 1858. Sri Makhanlal Dey, student of it, stood first in 1899. Sri Ayon Paul stood first in Higher Secondary in 2001. In the same year Sri Sugon Mayur was ranked 8th in Madhyamik examination. Sri Sovan Dutta was placed first in West Bengal Joint Entrance Engineering Examination in 2008. The school was awarded by the President of India for development in computer education in 2004. Sri Abhishek Patra and Sri Kanad Mitra were placed 7th and 10th in Madhyamik examination in 2014. This is the only Government School in Howrah. It is a Bengali medium school. Very recently English medium has been started partially. The approx number of students, teachers and non-teaching staff are 1500, 48 and 27 respectively. The old building has been renovated nicely. The standard of teaching, discipline and extracurricular activities are a mark of excellence. It enables to continue a very good relation among students, teachers and non-teaching staff. Good school..take a bus from howrah to bangabashi by any bus going to howrah moidan.then take a left and there is masjid beside a petrol pump. The school is beside the masjid..

A proper ground is required to nurture the talented students who are good at sports. We officially left around 6 years ago but still when I walk down memory lane, that environment of this school provides me a glimpse of smile alias nostalgia ❤
