Almost every temple Tamil Nadu is naturally beautiful and exude the spiritual energy that comes from being consecrated in mediaeval age, very well maintained with clean n divine environment, will always get to feel a nice breeze over there. This one is the best temple in Hosur, and very close to Bangalore, the setting is literally uplifting, being situated in top of a small hillock, whole temple is built using pullers and ceiling carved from rock including the roofs very ancient architectures, built as per aagama sastra with all deities like Dakshinamoorthy, 63 Nayanmars, Kala Birava, Navagraha, etc. This ancient built temple gives the immense holiness and stands tall for those days legacy, the surroundings are uninhabited, so getting here itself prepares you for the peaceful feeling that surrounds this temple.Temple maintenance is very good, early mornings or evenings are best timings to visit, but plan to go there during sun set so that u ll have a good view of the city with lights on.Can be reached from Bangalore in less than 2 hours, easily noticeable from the highway, take steps for reaching the top instead of going in vehicles, you will enjoy.

CHANDRA CHOODESHWARAR TEMPLE – HOSUR – KRISHNAGIRI DISTRICT – TAMILNADUOn a small hill lock of 250 Ft in the town of Hosur in Krishnagiri district, Tamilnadu about 40 KM’s from Bangaluru,is the temple of Lord Shiva in the form of a Swayambhu Lingam known as ChandraChoodeshwarar, with his Consort Goddess Margathambal.Temple seems to have been reconstructed in or extended in the year 1260 CE, by a Vassal or chieftain of the Hoysala Kingdom known as Thirupuvanamalla Parvatharaja Anthiyazhvar, under the Hoysala King Veera Someshwara(1235 – 1263 CE). The temple has been in existence before this, as it carries the inscription of Rajendra Chola whose reign was from 1014 to 1044 CE.The temple seems to have further gone into renovation by Azhakiya Perumal Aathimoolam sometimes later. The Brahmanda Purana says that, Dharmaraja was being persecuted by disruptive elements. He knew that, only Lord Shiva could protect him. He came to the forest south of the River Pennai and did penance to lord Shiva in the forest of Bhadradri. The Lord pleased with his penance appeared before him and converted him to a VRishabham (Bull) and made him his vehicle. He also blessed the place with bounty of nature and made the hills sacred. So beautiful was the place that, the Lord wanted Parvathi to visit this place and took the form of a Udumbu (Iguana) or monitor lizard in crystal shining with multiple colour’s. Parvathi attracted to the iguana, started chasing it along with her attendants, the chase made her hot and red in colour. The iguana reached the forest of Bhadradri and stopped. Goddess Parvathi stealthily moved to catch the iguana, but a Sage named Mudkalan saw the colourful crystal like Iguana and called out to his friend Uchchayanan loudly. Hearing the sound the Iguana disappeared. Seeing this Parvathi became angry and cursed both the Sages to become dumb and deaf and wander the forest as Hunters. Realizing that the lady was none other than Goddess Shakthi, The sages sought her forgiveness. She had cursed the devotees of her Lord Shiva & in repentance prayed to a lingam to absolve her of the sin and to relieve the sages out of the curse. The crystal Iguana returned and the Goddess touched the Iguana’s green tail, which transformed her skin colour to green. The Lord showed himself and blessed Parvathi and the sages. The lingam to which Parvathi had prayed, is the Lingam in the Temple of Chandra Choodeshwar. Since Parvathi had touched the Green Iguana and became green in colour, she is known as Maragathambal or the Green Goddess. The temple being on a hill, has stairs to climb ( Cars can go up to the Top, parking available). The temple is on the end of a compound. In the compound the entrance into the Mukhamandapam is through the Eastern doorway. On the entrance is a the Dhwaja stahambam, Balipeetham and a Large Nandi. Crossing this one comes to the Ardhamandapam, which leads to the sanctum. In the sanctum is the small Swayambhu Lingam of Lord Shiva facing East, with the Avudayar on the ground.Coming out of the Ardhamandapam on the southern side & behind the shrine of the lord are the shrines of Vinayaka as Rajaganapathy, to the right, Subramania Swamy on the left and on the extreme left is the Majestic standing 5 FT idol of Parvathi as Maragathambal. The outer walls of the Garbha Griha is lined up with the Koshtha devatas, Ganapathy, Dakshinamoorthy, Vishnu & a unique statue of Siva Lakshmi and a shrine to Chandikeshwarar. The compound of the Mukhamandapam is elevated on the left side with a platform containing, 63 Shaivite Saints, Kalabhairavar and other gods. In one corner is the small sculpture of Vayu holding the Temple aloft. The Platform also has sub-shrine with of 8 Gods of the Cardinal directionKubera - North, Yama – South, Indra – East, Varuna – West, Isana – North east, Agni – South east, Vayu North west , Nairuiti – North west and Lord Shiva as Chandra Choodeshwar in the Centre as the Adipathi or Overlord.( See Photographs).

Ancient temple dedicated to lord Shiva. Located on top of a hill in Hosur city in Tamilnadu state of India. A very famous place not just with the locals, but with people from different locations too. Hardly a kilometre away from the NH44/48 from Bangalore to Salem. Depending upon the location in Bangalore, this temple could be at a distance of 15-50 kilometres. Road condition is good. Toll applicable at Attibele, for cars a two way ticket would cost ₹40.Coming to the temple, a tar road leads to temple from the nearby ground. However staircase is also available for devotees who are coming by walk. There is a huge parking space available. The temple houses different deities, and dedicated to lord Shiva. One can easily get offerings for puja from the vendors sitting outside. There is facility available of clean drinking water next to the entrance. The straight path from the parking would lead to the dining hall, which serves prasadam from 12:30pm to 2pm. However, before the prasadam is offered to you, you would need to make an entry in a register provided by the dining hall staff to enter your name and city information. Quality was better than average.Would definitely visit again in future.

Visiting this place from year 2000, from last twenty years got very serious situations that all solved my god Chandrasudeswarar living in the hill temple in Hosur.
Visited the temple by sheer accident. could see the temple from the Hotel I had stayed in. decided to use my morning walk to visit the temple and it was the best early morning surprise I could get. The temple built in late Hoysala style achitecture on the inner santum, chola style on the outer praharam. inscriptions everywhere in tamil and another script. a great passionate poojari who was enthusiastic to explain everything he knew. a must see temple for heritage lovers. Has a great walkable and drivable access road, a few steps at the end if you choose to go that route or stay on the paved road. On the way is a smaller Kamateswarar temple with a small yet beautiful lily pond on the hill. Large parking lot with a police outpost and a fairly clean public toilet is available at the top near the chandrasoodeswarar temple. A water filled pond is also seen at the top of the hill. the temple is surrounded by a high wall. There are signs of another gopuram in construction. the planners have been careful to preserve the heritage structure and build the new one on the outer presincts. Would strongly suggest visiting the temple in the morning (opens at 630) when the sunlight luminates the east facing inner sanctum.
Visit this place on a non eventful day to fully experience the spiritual energy of this place. Spacious surroundings.

Both the lord and ambal face east. Temple has a kodimaram, and a rajagopuram which faces south.Temple has good car parking facility. A small pond is present on the west side as you climb the steps to the temple.

I am very blessed to dharsan lord Siva as Chandra Choodeswara, in Hosur. Very traditional Temple. Everybody should visit this temple in a lifetime
Very small hill. Easy to drive 4 wheeler. Parking space is there. Try to be on time. Theyre very strict in open and closing time.
Very peaceful place.exellent for worship
Nice place to visit with the family. However few things to take care, 1 sometime very crowded and opens morning 6 to afternoon 12:30 and then evening 4:30 to 8:00. Hence plan accordingly. Surroundings are not clear and clean. Lie of garbage thrown by people and little foul smell around.but also have nice gulmohar trees which makes the view awesome. You can see the entire Hosur region from the top. Little or no shops available there is the temple. There is area available for kids to play however need renovation.
