This place serves the most delicious Indian food you in Australia. The Makkhan chicken was made with chicken marinated with tandoori spices cooked to perfection and then tossed in a mellow sweet spicy tomato base. The dal tadka was spectacular and reminded of my mother’s cooking. The garlic naan were the best we ever had, fluffy and crispy at the same time. This dishes are well priced and the staff is very humble.Compliments to the chef for such amazing flavours. We will definitely be returning.

Really good tasty food, friendly and helpful staff, the restaurant floorspace is also big, so its usually not too hard to get a walk in if you are early which is great for families with kids. I only havent given 5 stars as I like to save that rating for truly amazing places. Highly recommended.

We have been in this restaurant for more than handful of times and had a good experience. Food is great however, the one of the waitress treated us poorly. As we asked for a table for three upstairs but she told that section is closed and two minutes later some native Tasmanians walked and all of a sudden the upstairs area is open for them. We felt offended as we were treated poorly. When asked for an explanation, the lady had furious attitude and sounded rude. Lady has a glasses on.

Came during the week and had an enjoyable experience. The staff are very warm and friendly and brought everything out so fast! It was difficult at times to get their attention to ask for more drinks but we got there in the end!We ordered samosas (which were probably one of the BEST Ive ever had!!) and lamb tandoori cutlets for entree. The lamb was tender and juicy, very moreish! Paired well with their raita. We also ordered the khadai chicken with rice and garlic naan, very tasty and the chicken was moist and cooked well.Definitely the best Indian out of the ones Ive tried so far in town, I recommend you give them a try!

Review №51

Given the stellar reviews, I was excited to order takeout from Tandoor & Curry House as my first foray into Hobart’s Indian restaurants. We ordered the samosa, Makhan Chicken (very reminiscent of a butter chicken) and Rogan Josh with garlic naan. It was all fairly priced and a decent serving size, and the meat was tender and without excess fat. When I ordered, we were told a 30min wait before pickup - and I always get there early so the food’s piping hot!.... except it wasn’t. I was surprised to be handed lukewarm (at best) curries given the empty restaurant, and would love this to be rectified as being handed cold food straight from the kitchen makes me question the freshness. Plus, much of the food is ruined in the microwave - the samosas lost all crispiness once I nuked them back to temperature. The curries are fair portions and good value (and I love the complimentary rice!) - I would say 1 curry per rather hungry person, or for two people with a lighter appetite. I found them to be very, very mild given the ‘hot’ rating for both - and somewhat lacking a wow factor. I like my curries with a punch of spice and strong flavour - and would suggest branching out on the menu if you like the same (I think I’d try a vindaloo or some seafood curries next time, in case I chose the more general options). Excellent naan, though!I didn’t dine in, but would say that the interior is lovely and that the food would probably be delicious served hot from the kitchen - much more so than cold in a bag.I’ll probably shop around to find another Indian place for takeout, but Tandoor & Curry House was still pretty good. I just wouldn’t get the Makhan Chicken / Rogan Josh again - something spicy next time!

We have been going to the Tandoor and Curry House for a few years. Food has always been delicious. However the hygiene has gone down recently. The restaurant was just down the street from where I stayed so I decided to give it a try. I have never really had Indian food before and cannot take spice well so I ordered the chicken korma off the menu. The menu have stars beside each item to indicate the spiciness level which I found very helpful, and most dishes come in regular and large sizes. The regular sized portion was generous (was starving and had leftovers), and the flavours were rich and delicious! If I visit Hobart again, would definitely return for more authentic Indian food!

Went here on our first trip to Tasmania, after a local friend recommended it. He was absolutely right to. Fantastic, super friendly service, really nice environment somewhere between India and an old Hobart townhouse and incredible food - if youre not into spicy, try their specialty chicken, its amazing and the portions are enough to satisfy almost anyone - their samosas are also incredible as is their Malai Kofta. Im sure the rest of the menu may be as well, but thats what we tried. Cosy, friendly and delicious - highly recommend.

After surviving on pizza, hot chips and bread through our Tasmania vacay, we went to Tandoor and Curry House for some indian food and the place didnt disappoint. My husband and I went for the khadi paneer and Shahi paneer. I preferred the latter which had a nice creamy taste.the naans were big, buttery and flaky. I would give the khadi paneer a miss but the rest was good. The samosa was homemade and great in taste. This place has been around for 20 years so duck into the place if you are looking for some curry.

Where to start. Been here before and remember a nice experience, however bit of a nose dive this time. Wait staff could not understand a banquet for 5 people on a table of 7. Became obviously irritated that 2 of our party only wanted a dessert. Ordered some champagne for one, they brought a glass out, after half gone asked if wanted more, after saying no they then informed she had bought a bottle, might as well have another glass now.My brother went to the bar to get a drink, he came back and I quote I dont want to get another drink from the scary people. The food was good if a little samey, recommend some Kashmir naan.

Staffs are arrogant. Seems they don’t like customer presence. Not a single smile or welcome behaviour. Thintto walk off. One of the expensive restaurant in Hobart, selling ‘Roti’ in $5, really never seen any restaurant in Australia selling in that price. What a joke. I been to Indian restaurant in every city of Australia but this one is unrealistic. Honestly they need to learn how to do their job properly and serve customer. In hospitality industry customer service is number one priority. Looking forward for food quality now. ......Continue......Customer service minus - no welcome. No smile or sign of happiness by seeing customer. Very rude staff who don’t like to work and not seeing any sense of politeness when serving or talking to customers. After making all complaints no discount on final invoice or sign of apologies.Look and feel - double minusVery old and poor building, zero renovation or care towards handle and doorythat you touch. Chairs and tables are very old and poorly placed. Cut my finger while opening door handle from inside on time of exit. Owner Please spend some money that you are making by robbing your customersQuality of food - Poor triple minusOrde Dal tadka. They server watery black dal.Ordered Kadahi Paneer. Very dull and blend taste. I am sure even Aussie will think this is not a taste of India. Very watery. Malai Kofta very blend and no taste in it. Where is that creamy and tasty gravy you look for in malai Kofta. Rice - old rice served and we can feel it by texture and chunk of rice we found in it. Please check photos. I told counter girl that please do not serve such a old rice to at least Indian who can easily judge it that it’s not fresh. Their medium and large dishes have only difference in price but in terms size they are same. Check photos.Price - Too much expensive. I hv eaten in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Brisbane and GoldCoast but this restaurant is one of the worst quality food with higher end price. If you have been to Indian restaurant think about price of Roti. Generally it’s $3-$3.50 but they are serving it for $5. Are you serious. What a good tactic to rob your customers by high price and lower amount of quantity. Their large dish size is big joke.Overall Worst Experience. We been their due to high ratings and good review in Zomato and TripAdvisor but seriously if you are food lover and looking for good Indian food please by all means AVOID this restaurant.

The food was only okay at best and that too after a wait of full hour.. the reason for the delay as per the manager was an increase in their take away orders. Additionally our portion size was mixed up. The food was good but the service was pathetic. The young lady who didn’t want to reveal her name was very unprofessional and had an attitude that doesn’t suit hospitality industry. What a shame! On multiple occasions at the time of dinner, I called out for service but was ignored by her where everyone else was looking at me when i’m saying out loud ‘Excuse me’. I was requesting for some extra naans and a curry as we were falling short of it on the table. To which the lady had very weird response and asked me to wait while she was discussing some random topic with another customer for more than 5 mins.It was very intentional and I became the victim of it. To which i lost my patience and yelled out in front of other customers which i have never done in any restaurant regardless of what the matter is.The owner/ manager should look into it of you want to avoid such situations in future.
