This little place is located behind the main tatva restaurant, On the other side of the clock tower. And they were open pretty early. That didnt stop them from serving the full menu.Almost all the items were available.The poori was made fresh. The chutneys were tasty. And I really liked their mix and match combo offers. This really helps families looking for variety. And friends trying to sample and share different dishes.The pongal was a bit on the heavy side and filling. The tables and the ordering upfront business is a no frills arrangement perfectly suited for a tiffen items only place.I even tried their chikoo milkshake. Hearty breakfast.
We came from Florida on vacation and wanted to try some authentic food from a variety of countries. The food was very flavorful and it woke up your palate. The server, Sai, was very nice. He took great care of our large family.

1 star for the attendant (polite and friendly)1 for mirchi fry(appetizer) and 1 for their thali which my husband likes(i have to try)1. The Food we ordered was not so good but ok. We tried chicken 65 which was way too spicy could not finish it. Mirchi fry was good, biryani was ok but not fresh.2.The ramekins in which we were served chutney was chipped, which annoyed me.3. The canvas with elephant painting on the wall had a bunch of mosquitoes resting and enjoying on it. Which is not a pleasant view for anyone while having dinner.Will review my thali experience separately.
I felt the place is overpriced and the dishes especially breakfast menu items were not good. There was only one person taking the order and he served the main course first and then the appetizers. Service and the ambience is very poor. There looks to be a lot of items on the menu but after tasting a dish, we were not excited to eat more.
Really tasty and good food, well worth the wait
Food and service have both gone down drastically :(It started with an unclean place and one person doing the task of taking the orders, getting the food ready inside the kitchen, serving and taking payments!Then came the food that was the most disappointing experience. Dosa was not cooked properly , came with barely any potato stuffing in it and the worst was the sambhar bowl that was nothing but leftover of the onions and tomato base with no liquid at all! Dosa did not come with the coconut or tomato chutney. Cut mirchi were two mirchis and 4 times thicker flour (besan) covering. Upon request he served green/mint chutney instead of the same peanut one that came with dosa and that was smelling awful as it had gone bad. Mysore bondas were the only thing that tasted reasonable but again, did not come with sambhar as usually does as they had run out of it . All in all, the place has lost its taste and service level.
We did catering for Christmas for the morning and evening and everything was amazing. The food was on point and everything was ready in a timely manner. Everything was packaged very well and was very fresh. I would recommend this place to anyone for catering orders.
I ordered food online via Uber eat and I found food quality is not good. They use lot of baking soda in the food and garlic naan was almost hard. On top of that, found hair in the Naan which means that don’t maintain proper hygiene. The place is also dirty.I strongly suggest not to order food from this location until they improve it.
Absolutely loved their food especially the dosas and idlis. Definitely going to visit again and try other varieties of food they offer. Aside food, they have quick and amazing service also! :D :D
Name should change to tatwa goods train instead of express. They take more than 1 hour just for idli.
We recently ordered for house 🏠 warming the food was delicious .Kadai paneer and jackfruit biryani was so tasty everything was taken care would definitely recommend this.
Wonderfully freshly prepared cuisine by Abdul and courteous attentive service from Sai. Dine in available. Recommend the Chicken 65 appetizer the delicious butter Naan bread and the chicken tikka masala. Top off your meal with tasty dessert Ras Malai.
We got takeout from Tatva. The pepper chicken fry entree and Butter Chicken. The butter chicken was sweeter than usual, which wasnt too appealing. We also felt the amount of chicken was lower than normal. More sauce and let chicken. Would still recommend the place. They have an excellent biriyani and waiting eagerly for their Thali once they start dine in again.
Best Indian food I have ever had. The food was very tasty and pretty good with the spice. It was our first time there, and the young lady that took our order was very helpful with making our choices. I’m very satisfied with the choices made.
Having to kill some time at lunch I wondered into Tatva and asked if they were open for dining indoors. Although I think they were not ready for me they said yes and seated me like I was a family member. The host offered me tea and despite me attempting to order my typical paneer tikka masala they offered new menu items based on my taste for spicy cuisine. I ordered the chili mushroom pepper fry (spicy), the subz-e-nawabi handi (spicy) and the butter roti. Having never had any of it before my trust was put fully in the hands of the staff and their recommendation did not disappoint. I absolutely love paneer tikka masala but I now have a new favorite dish in the subz-e-nawabi. While the facility (express side) is currently set up to accommodate to go orders Tatva is willing to seat customers. Aesthetically, it is not overly appealing but it was so delicious I ordered the exact same thing to go for dinner. Thank you again to the Tatva staff I will return and recommend this to anyone in the area looking for authentic Indian cuisine.

The best best food I had after coming to USA. I started of with tandoori chicken which was the best i ever tasted. Coming towards gongura chicken, it was just lipsmacking (even though I felt it was way too spicy). And finally the chicken biryani was equally good in its own way. Most satisfying Indian food and my personal favorite.

Not suggestible to go on weekdays . Dosa batter, chutneys and sambar are not at all fresh. I can feel the smell when you are eating .Not healthy.I am sure about weekdays .

Theres a regular sit-down restaurant in front, and a small carry out in back. I just went to the restaurant and it was very good. Everything looked new and clean, with dark wood tables and oddly fancy, plush, comfortable armchairs. I got seated right away and service was fast.Ive only had one dish, mughlai chicken, and the preparation was perfect... Chicken cooked properly, with lots of hot flavorful gravy, and fluffy rice. The portion is just right, enough to feel full, but not so much I must take leftovers home.Quality is five stars. Flavor was very strong, its similar to korma, very creamy and a bit salty. I like that they appeared quickly when I was done, and were able to run my credit card right at the table. The whole meal was pretty quick, and the prices are OK, about $12 or $13 for most entrees.My only small issue is, the place is very bright, with music at a volume that isnt loud but does not fade into the background. I would prefer a little less light and quieter music. Its a nice restaurant and this would help it feel more upscale.
I have driven by this place numerous times and tonight I decided to stop in for a meal. I ordered the shrimp Marsala medium spicy. It was explosive with rich flavor and just enough of a kick to it. This dish was generously proportioned with plump, cooked to perfection shrimp 🦐. There was enough to take home and save for a meal tomorrow. Highly recommend this place . Prices are affordable and the food came quickly. I will definitely go back to try another dish
Didnt get to try the food but after 20 mins waiting to order food, the person said it would take about 40 mins for any order. Guess they had a big catering order and didnt want to be bothered!

Excellent flavor, quality and value. Small plates style combos that give you so much variety like a personal Buffett. Service was excellent and the staff was very attentive to offer seconds for anything that you liked. I recommend this over Buffets especially if you like to sample a wide variety.
Nice place, I have received good feedback about this place. I tired 1st time and ordered Sunday early morning breakfast from this place. All items were reasonably priced & service was quick. We picked our food from back door as it was early in the morning. Place was not very clean. About food Idily was not cooked properly. We ordered Butter masala dosa & onion dosa but there was no trace of butter in it,it was more of as if cooked in non-stick pan without any butter or oil. Very thick,dry & hard dosa. Samber was very bland as it was hardly tangy,chilli & use of any sambar masala in it. Good for small baby- Toddlers. In dal-coconut Chutney, dal was not roasted properly,it has tasted raw. Vada & onion Chutney was perfect.Seems like it was utter negligence at cook end. Owner should definitely keep an eye as this can really spoil your resturant credibility in market.
Very poor service on takeout. We had ordered only one entree and it took close to one hour. When asked how long to wait, the waiter reaponded he does not know. This is rediculous and will definitely not recommend this place.
Except the front end receptionist everything seems to be good, she is not even wearing gloves and mask 🌕. Excellent food and prices are reasonable.
I am not good at writing but want to share my recent experience after reading couple of reviews on google about tatva new restaurant opened in Herndon, Clock Tower.I like the idea of splitting Express and Fine Dining , so that customer get the unique experiences unlike other good restaurants which are crowded and messy.Their Breakfast is Big... really big.. they have telangana, andhra, rayalaseema .. whole south india in their dynamic menu.. you may not find some of them in online menu.. please check it in person or over call or whats up which they are very active... their service is one of the BEST.. will give 5 starsTheir Thali is so appetizing.. i happend to go lunch to give company to my hungry frined.. tatva is closest restaurant we found and thought thali would be best and quick.. its one of the best we had... every thing catered in right portions and very very tasty and freshly made... it was a busy so services was bit slow but i can understand considering Herndon area and demand for thali @ tatva..Thali 5 stars, Services 3.75 stars ( only because my expectations were high)Thank you

I ordered food from this restaurant via Grub Hub to try something new. It had been almost 1hr 30mins since I placed the order, yet, the food wasn’t ready. I called the restaurant and asked for the progress on my food, they said it will take just a few more mins. I was hoping that would be true but i ended up cancelling my order because of long wait time. I waited almost 2hrs 30mins for food from this place.I would not recommend this place if you are expecting guests at your home, the wait is too excessive.

If you can’t cater the order don’t take orders and give timelines to pickup . Was told order will be ready in 45mins, waited another 45 mins total of 90 mins and still can’t make it. Very pathetic...
Great Indian cuisine and service. The butter chicken was rich, spicy and delicious. Some great appetizers are available as well. One note, you can pay with cc but tip with cash. I will be back to try some other dishes on my next trip back to town.
I gave a 5 star as its authentic breakfast to what we get down south in India. Food was simply GREAT!!! The variety on the menu, staff were super sweet. Even though my visit was during the peak hour, the short wait for the table and the quick service was exemplary. Special mention for Chikoo juice
I visited this Restaurant along with my friends and found out customer service is very bad. We place the order and waite about 55 and still order is not Ready meanwhile I found out they are not maintaining social distance and place se dirty many used napkin in the floor.
They add baking soda in every food item like every other restaurant who provides Thali, which prevents you to have a proper meal. I have a good appetite still couldn’t finish a initial servings. Additionally, food is not that great, few items were stale and rest of them weren’t properly cooked.I am giving 2 stars overall just for the waiter for great food service.
Every thing on menu is $5 on Wednesdays!! The place is not clean, very dirty windows and interior of the restaurant is quite inferior. We used to go there but not anymore since their cleanliness decreased. They have very sad looking entrance that takes away the mood to come here and eat again. If they would improve the condition of the place we would consider coming back again.
Tatva xpress was always my quick South Indian breakfast option in Herndon. So, this morning I decided to place an order. I ordered 2 plates of idli which tasted good, however the peanut chutney served was stale(They missed the coconut chutney). Sambar was too watery. I had one more complaint is that the website didn’t mention the correct food price. I totally understand the current circumstances, but that’s not how you treat your customers. It’s either you serve good food or you don’t serve at all.

Very good collection of Indian breakfast items, served in quick time.Ambiance of a typical Indian restaurant with filter coffee in the mix makes it feel very much like back-home.Could do better on those that are served as a one-pot-rice items.
We went for Lunch on Father’s Day. I visited this restaurant multiple times. Food and service has been always great. I highly recommend this place for any one that enjoys authentic South Indian food. Specially Thalis. Delicious Veg and Non- Veg Indian dishes. Good service and prices are very reasonable.

I came to visit my family who were hosting a party and the food there was so sumptuous. I was so delighted to taste such fine food. I went to this restaurant the next day. I loved mushroom pepper fry appetizer. I am a foodie and try different restaurants when am travelling to different places in US and have never tasted such an awesome Tandoori Chicken & Naans in US.I would love to visit this place again when am in town.

I ordered masala dosa and vada, the chutneys which were served with them were stale.Though this lockdown hit hard to everybody and also affecting restaurants, but that doesn’t mean customers deserved to be served with stale food.It was very disappointing.

Tatva catered for 60+ people for Office Diwali party. Every single person appreciated the quality of food. Quantity was so sufficient as well.We all loved Naan which was not thick, not chewy and definitely not dry. Texture and the quality was at its best.Rest of the items were equally good.Would highly recommend this restaurant. Go try.

I had the unlimited thali and it was a fantastic meal. It’s only slightly more expensive than your average buffet, but the quality and service was absolutely worth it. The food was spicy and flavorful with a wide variety of dishes.
The food is just amazing with all the authentic flavors. Liked their daily 6.99 lunch specials. ItIfwould be great, if they can use the outside seating area as well. And finally the coffee was just awesome just the way I like it.

If you looking for authentic Indian food then this is the place to go to. Customer service is on point. I live in MD but I still drive 45min to an hour to come and eat here. Their Thalis are also really good. I would eat here everyday if I was living in VA. You guys should open one in MD soon. #BestIndianFood

Went for buffet today .Very poor food ...cold food served in Thali and nan were also cold ...When I asked for Hot and nicely cook naan ....they said NO .Also they serve white rice in THALI and later after sometime they will serve Briyani due to which lot of white rice getting wasted ...Overall poor quality.....

Im not going there again and I hope this review will be helpful for the people around.I was trying to place an order on the phone one day at Tatva and one lady picked the phone and taking my order. I was about to order Chicken Biryani. I was saying her that I would like to get Chicken Biryani, and I was asking her do you have any other type of Chicken Biryani other than Dhum, she was very rude and shes like NO, WE HAVE ONLY ONE TYPE OF BIRYANI.I asked her if they have different one because, I remember that at our office we ordered a lot of food and one of them was Chicken Biryani with small pieces. I dont remember the name and I was asking her on the phone about it and her rudeness surprised me.I did not place any order on that day and Im not going to place. The only reason for going to this restaurant is that its close to where I stay. But, now after I explored a bit, I noticed several other restaurants where food is better than hear and the way they provide Customer Service is much better than Tatva.
It is worst experience and felt I ate what they have rather then what I like. They ran out of items before 9pm even though the place is open until 10pm. Poor communication and would have appreciated if they informed that not all items on the menu are available. The place does not provide water refill and just gives small water bottle. Overall bad experience.

Delicious authentic food. Such amazingly crispy dosa with tasty batter ( instead of the tasteless crispy stuff that I am used to after eating in many South Indian restaurants all over US). The chutneys are yummy and fresh , Sambar dal so wonderful too. The uttapam and ghee idly was great too .Hope they can maintain this level of quality and authenticity. Cannot wait to be back here

If you are a foodie like me, Tatva Indian Cuisine which is conveniently located in the heart of Herndon is a must visit place, and is one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the whole of DC metro region. That’s a bold statement to make but I do have many reasons to back that up. Tatva can be credited for serving the rich and authentic south Indian breakfast menu which I bet not even the likes of woodlands or the udipis in the area do. Their lunch thaali is just amazing and has garnered lot of fans already. if you call yourself a fan of tandooris and kabobs, trust me, you will be blown away. Tatva has been attracting lot of foodies from all over Northern Virginia and if you haven’t visited this place yet, you are missing a lot. My personal favorites here - Hyderabadi Dum Biryani, Chicken Malai Kabob, Tandoori Platter, Tandoori Chicken, Thaali, Kaaram Dosa just to name a few. Go visit with confidence and I promise you won’t be disappointed.
There are 2 restaurants one is fast food which is called Tatva express and other is fine dine. Tatva express has a nice menu and combos are available. The food is ok , however they give 3 types of chutney which are delicious.
The food here was really good. Had it several nights in a row. Sambar and dosa here were so tasty. Very flavorful, just like home cooking.Except for the food poisoning. I had to fly 12 hours sick as death; very disappointing. Knocked me out for 3 days.
