This is a very bad quality masala dosa with chars and burns. I tried a little bit and tastes spoiled and not at all fresh. Also, not sure what kind of flour they use. It’s oddly white in color. They used to have better (not the best) dosa in the past. I don’t why they have changed their cooking style.
Amazing all vegg and all clean, staff is super nice, samosa and and vada pav delicious
This place is a hidden gem! Food is delicious! Friendly staff. Our whole family loves the food. There is something for everyone
Ive ordered takeout from this place twice now. I cannot understand how much this place needs to be visited. No matter what you order the cuisine is absolutely spectacular..The wait time even when they are busy is very short. Communication on the phone is absolutely easy. The area is spacious so if youre worried about social distancing you are able to. The restaurant itself is spotless. And the staff are absolutely fantastic and friendly. So far Ive had the pleasure of trying...Pav Bhaji which was absolutely spectacular with the butter bread. The onion and green chili uttapam hit the spot. It had the perfect balance of ingredients. And my ultimate favorite thing from this place so far has been there samosas. These delicious treats are very well portioned. Stuffed very well, and very flaky and crisp as they should be.It has been years since Ive experienced such great food of this type. Please give this place a visit.Oh and dont forget to try one of their lassies. The mango one was exceptionally delicious.
This place is very good, I got the vegetarian dumplings (I forgot the name) very flavorful - I asked for extra spice and I tasted the extra spice. Good stuff.
Not impressed with quality of food, the dosa was bitter and burnt, chaat had chickpeas half cooked and a lot of it in terms of quantity. The idly was hard and sambar was very watery and salty. This please was good 2 years ago but after my visit last week, I would say I am not going again.
Horrible experience, spoiled food was served. We identified and smells so bad as soon as we received. When we asked their response were so bad. All they said was in rude way to get the refund. It was really bad experience in restaurants to serve very rotten food. Careful
We went for lunch for my birthday..it was a big mistake. Food did not have a flavor even the easy to make rasam was not even tasting like rasam and the easiest of all the rice it was so hard cant even chew and the rest of the food absolutely tasteless and flavorless. Seriously, I was wondering whether they taste the food while preparing or serving? Unless chef and whole menu changes I would not recommend to any one who loves food.
This place has a best food and fast service.
Worst food, all frozen heated food not fresh not an indian made its all Mexican staff trying to cook indian style which worst
Very good thali and moong dal halwa.
Cannot make south indian food or they use leftovers. Horrible expensive experience
They served stale food and then when i pointed out that the biryani was smelling weird the owner gave a very rude reply and did not even accept the mistake.Save your time and money and do not visit this place
Good portions and prices. Friendly staff.
Nice Eastern European waiter. Polite and good service. Granted Tamil noses are unique but still the smell of old oil pervaded the restaurant. That was I hope just today as it made the wait for food uncomfortable.Lastly, if people order thali and masal dosai in the store, serve it reuseable metal containers please. We wasted so much styrofoam when we didnt even take out.Good tasting food for a mom & pop restaurant (not better than my dads was thou ;o)
The food is super delicious and authentic. Best South Indian food I ever had. Loved it❤️
I loved the food and the simplicity of the decorations.
6/6: Had idly vada and moongdal dosa . Vada is nice . Idly and dosa tasted bad sour , chutney are like 2 weeks old 🤮. Irani tea is like masala tea .I don’t recommend 👎🏻.Front desk staff person is good 👍🏻
Lassi is nice as well as the veg Manchuria. Not overly salty and just perfect.
Awesome & fresh food👍 .. quick service, very clean and well maintained!!
If you looking for good vegetarian food in herndon and near by. This is worth trying, though I went here today after almost one and half year.
I had one of the worst experiences here. Before the food was really good and I used to enjoy it alot. Since last couple of time the front desk is acting very poor. I ordered sambar rice and they just put some sticky rice cake pouring sambar on it .It tasted very bad and when I asked the front desk regarding that she just trashed and told that all I have and anything else you need. She was so rude and disrespectful. The restrooms were very poor and not maintained.Sad to see such an amazing restaurant losing the standards!
Worst food ever. Ordered this Balaji thaali.. the quantity was so less and thank god the quantity was less bcoz the food tasted like it was made 2 days ago. Sambar was watery and we can easily say it was not fresh and is atleast made 2 days ago.. Rasam was worst. Sambar and Rasam had weird taste and was stale.. Not even a single item tasted good.. only gulab jaamun was good.. very disappointed
I love this place and go here regularly. The food is inexpensive, fresh, and tasty. The lady who works here is very nice and knows everything about the ingredients and the menu, so if you have any food allergies or sensitivities, she will be able to tell you what you can and cannot eat. I love the vada sambar, veg burger, dosas, and desserts especially. The thali is a bargain if you are very hungry and want some variety. I have not been disappointed in anything I have tried. My family loves it too, and I take them here whenever they visit me. Everyone in my family is vegetarian or vegan, and its great to have this veg restaurant nearby.
Thali has 2 varieties of rice - Dry rice from cooler, Dry rice from cooler microwaved with water
Ordered masala dosa and idli Sambar. Sambar was thin and all I could see was water and chili powder. Idli was ok but dosa was not cooked on the other side. I doubt I will visit this place again.
Delicious food that tastes homemade. The thali was a great value. Would recommend to anyone.
Had a very bad experience. We ordered sambar rice and Thali. The lady on the front desk took my order and served the food without washing her hand after touching her mask. The sambar rice was very bad, she just poured sambar on a hard piece of a rice and the Thali was served in the foam bowls which was melting because of the hot items in them. Not at all hygienic and won’t recommend this place and bad service!
It is a very delicious food, I love it
Very delicious food and very good service.Reasonable prices.
Stale food. Tasteless. Expensive for it’s standard - you may have to spend way more at the hospital. Definitely not Indian food and definitely not ‘food’.
Good place for a pick up and economical. Taste varies, you never know what to expect
Horrible.! Ordered to go. Sambar rice is tasteless, veg Hakka noodles is a nightmare and veg manchuria is finely grounded balls that did not cooked properly and sauce is tasteless. Rasmalai is good and that single star is for that. Purchased a Groupon coupon 10$ for $20 worth. But ended up in paying $13 more since take away is for minimum $30. Please don’t waste your money. Stay away
Great food! Large portions for a good price. I tried the hakka noodles and veggie burger patty. Will definitely come back to try other items on the menu. Highly recommend.
Excellent south Indian Tiffan place. Freshly made food, warm and genuine service! Must go place !!
No words to expressAwwsum yummy tasty foodI visit Balaji 3 times a week
This place is dynamite! If you are dosa lover, come here! You will not be disappointed. The dosas are authentic and fresh. Masala dosa, Mysore masala dosa - they do it exactly right. They have many other scrumptious things including snack items that vary and are not on the menu. The prices are a great value. If I could eat here every day, I would.
Please try their complimentary mint water placed next to the cashier. I was so happy to see it. I asked them if its complimentary, and then drank two refreshing cups of mint water while I waited for my order to arrive. It looks like a cool place to hangout with your friends. I had gone there on a Saturday. A security was posted at the entrance of the parking lot to check on people, so that the Herndon festival patrons dont park there. Despite the Herndon festival, Balaji Cafe was moderately busy.I like their completely Vegetarian menu. For once, I dont have to think about substitutions or worry about why they dont have that similar dish in Veg.I had ordered a halwa Poori and Bhel Puri to go. When I got home, I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the two pooris, they were big enough, almost the typical size of a dosa. And the accompanying sooji halwa/Kesari was mildly sweet and was of adequate quantity. The Bhel Puri was a let down as I was expecting some spicy tangy masala. I would definitely come and try the other dishes at this place as their rates seemed pocket friendly. I guess its more of a To Go place/Chaat space. Hope they continue to serve complimentary mint water.
Casual Indian restaurant with great food! We ordered Chanda Bhatura, Aloo Tikka Chaat, Gulab Jamun and mango lassi. Everything was delicious with good service.
Ordered the thali by looking the photos on their website.. Couldnt even eat half of it.. Chapathi and samosa both seems to be frozen and reheated. Rice is sticky and very less quantity.. Papad is soft. All Currys are full of oil. Never going here again
I love the food, all the staff members are good in customer service.
Weve been going here on and off for the past five years. We love this place. Food is good taste wise and quality of ingredients wise also. Almost all of the items on the menu are great choices. We particularly like the parathas and Indo Chinese dishes. The Madras coffee is a must have to seal the meal.
Really love this place. I always order something new, only because I never remember what I got before. The menu is descriptive but it still doesnt really tell me what the good will be but if you wait long enough the will be a picture of the food you want on one of the screens. But early everything here is good so you cant go wrong even though they dont serve meat. Its always delicious.
Fantastic place. Dont let the industrial area for you. Also inside its cafeteria style: you place the order at the counter and its delivered to your table. Seems like a family run operation and the food is delicious. The lady who took our order and brought the food to us was very pleasant and was smiling throughout. Process are quite reasonable and you will get to enjoy so many South Indian devices and staples. Vada was quite crisp and was delectable to be dunked into sambar. Thank allows you to taste many different things in a single plate.Go take a look and taste a few dishes, you wont be disappointed. If youre a vegetarian or vegan, you will be amazed at the choices. Quite a treat!
Food was good. and staff was so helpful.
The food was wonderful! I picked up food from Balaji Cafe on Sunday. Im not a vegetarian but I love Indian food so I thought I would try this place. I called and asked them what they recommended for a first-time vegetarian Indian food eater and they recommended the Masala Dosa. They also recommended the Mango Lassi. Both were sooo delicious! The Masala Dosa is a giant crepe with a potato mixture inside. And the Mango Lassi was like a mango/yogurt smoothie. When I picked up my food I met Naresh the owner who was such a nice guy. Ill definitely be ordering more from here and Im looking forward to being able to sit down in the restaurant when this whole Corona thing is over to enjoy another great meal. Cant wait to try his other restaurant too, Supperclub of India!
The food is good, but the spice is very mild. Definitely worth a try.
Awesome tea. Their minwater is something special. When you go there make sure you have some. I ordered just before I got there and by the time I got to the restaurant they had it ready for me to pick up that was awesome.
I had to look at the scrolling screens. I would that looks good. So does that. Some one in front of me ordered something that looked delightful. It was. They ask how spicy do you want it. I answer medium please. I am sure I would love the hot but what if it was really hot? On my next visit I orderd noodles with salid and vegetables covered in special sauce. Some order some humans. I also Sked for humas please. They asked if wanted baked flat bread for dipping. Something different next time. It will be good.
This place is amazing for a quick bite of Indian street food. Lots of options and very cheap. The place is run like a fast food restaurant, which is a good thing, because there arent that many Indian restaurants like this. You can expect your food to be ready within minutes.
Great place for Indian fast food and snacks or say quick bites. You can eat in. I have always found place to sit and eat. Does not provide table service. 4 Stars only as service can be much faster and place can be a little more pleasant to sit and eat.
A little South Indian restaurant. The food was average tasting. Service could be better with a smile. The rice was re heated and hence a little dry. Not sure if I will go back!
Weve been going here for about a year, and the food has always been good. Today, we went in about 30 min before closing. The guy who took our order was polite when he told us the kitchen would close soon... nothing out of the ordinary. Thats when things got weird. The guy in the kitchen proceeded to have what could only be called a tantrum (complete with banging trays, and glaring at us) and whined that it was closing time. He proceeded to give us the stink eye throughout our meal. The food was good, but our meal was ruined. Were not going back.
Not wearing masks in the kitchen during COVID19 pandemic. Irresponsible!
Ive always had great and excellent service. I love the food there.
First, excellent food. Wife and I both loved the meal.Despite this, we arrived 40 minutes before the restaurant closed and received extremely poor and rude customer service from the gentleman at the counter mostly with the hat on 28 November 2016. Walking in, we noticed there was two other tables occupied, however we received mad stink eye from the cashier who apparently wanted to close the shop 40 minutes earlier than the posted close time.Food came promptly, and was quite tasty. We decided to give them a chance to redeem themselves and gave them a friendly goodbye. All 4 of the guys behind the counter looked at us, and completely ignored us. This was 15 minutes prior to posted close time. Very disappointing.Overall, great food, very rude and poor service.
A nice quick getaway for Indian vegetarian food. Taste is okay but not great. The wide range of menu is a plus.
Polite host, spacious and clean place. Food was very tasty.
Good food but spicy for some who are not used to it . Please reduce the spice level. I have friends who would also like to come here if the food is not that spicy
Favorite veg place in the area. Good chaats. Food is good price and service is fast.
Veggie Burger 🤤Lassi 😻
Restaurant is not great1. They serve all hot food in foam dishes which I feel cheap and not healthy. They can serve in glassware or steel plate.2. We went at 8:30 PM on Sunday and owner replied with rude attitude that its close.3. Food test is average4. Hygiene is noneOverall 2/5
Used to be a regular at this place. Great food but very rude staff. Food should be served with some politeness. Not going back again here and also advising the same to my friends and family. There are plenty of similar food options around this area.
I recently discovered the deliciousness that is vada pav, and these guys do it up right. Its not expensive, but its definitely rich in flavors. When I introduce folks to it I dont tell them its vegetarian, because they usually say, nah, Id rather have something that tastes good. Its only after theyve fallen in love that I casualty let them know. This place is awesome!
I would not recommend this restaurant to eat at. The chili paneer was terrible, with the gravy being a thick, globby sauce that felt the same as eating a bucket of ketchup. The paneer was essentially uncooked and had a styrofoam texture while chewing. The ratio between the gravy and paneer was extremely disproportionate, with the amount of sauce being almost four times the amount of paneer. There were several pieces of paneer that were not cut properly and stuck together. It had a distinctive taste of spice, but that was overwhelmed by both the blandness of it and the rubbery and greasy texture. Almost everything was overloaded with insane amounts of oil, and when touched left your fingers covered with a thick layer of grease. The textures and flavors of many of the dishes need serious improvement. However, the service was good, and the food was delivered within a few minutes. Still, this restaurant is not one that I would personally eat at again.
Fast delivery. Decent food. Decent prices. Friendly service.
Depends on what day you go there. Some days they have great food other days may be bad. But never had any issue. Prices are reasonable. Only place you get most of the desi food under one roof.
We went in this cafe and we ordered pani puri and chai . Pani puri was good but chai was old like they made in morning it was very bad we told them they was like we just made 😑 ... who can make chai with in 1 mint because soon as soon I gave order they gave us chai .... don’t ask for chai
They gave us rotten Rasam
This place is expensive for no reason. I eat a lot of non vegitarian and get full meal for $10 even after spending $12 here you go home hungry. The owner needs to lower the price as its a full veg places and his cost is low. Making only high profit wont sustain long. I am not going to this place anymore unless prices drop.
Great spot for a quick bite in the go. Close to home cooking when compared with other Indian joints. Very pleasant service and clean environment. Tried a few items on the menu - Dosa and madras coffee were my favorite.
Worth a wait, and guess what? It doesnt have any!Service is quick, food is authentic savory South Indian cuisine and the prices are unbeatable. I cant see whats not to like,
I have been here a few times and I like their South Indian options. Didn’t like their samosa very much though thought it was weirdly made. I take out or have my meal there. They have nice old Hindi songs playing in the background which is nice. Their chole bhatura was okay could have been spicier. But take note that they make paper receipts if that’s something you’re particular about.
Open early on Sunday for breakfast. wonderful experience. great staff and good people.
Decent place to have evening snacks or dinner. Their chat items and dosas are really good and the prices are reasonable. Very good place for Vegetarians.
Food is great!! Service is nice. A bit of cleanliness would move it few notches up my list.
Menu has a lot of variety. The food was good but some dishes were too oily. Ambience is ok, more cafe like. They have very limited high chairs.
Good for vegetarians. This is a pure vegetarian restaurant. Only 3 star because they burnt my vegetarian Manchurian and the allu roti stuffing was like frozen roti, rest of the items are good.
Good food for the price conscious. I am deducting a star because the look and feel can be much better but no complains about the food specially keeping in mind the little you pay for
The taste wasnt good enough for me to finish my meal. Have been to many Indian restaurants in the past, this one is worst. Topped by its unsanitary environment.
I have been here few times and I liked few of their south indian options. But experience with the staff was very consistent - VERY BAD.The last time I have visited we ordered a Pav Bhaji and the Bhaji was cold. I have conveyed the same to the staff and they had a very casual response, not at all apologetic about what happened and behaved as if it was a common occurrence for them. There are a lot of similar food options in the area and dont see a reason to give them my business any more.
South Indian tiffins items are bad in taste. Chutney’s are directly from refrigerator. Pani puri doesn’t come chana- it comes with haldirams boondhi. Tea and Coffe are machine processed with creamer(instead of milk).
Their chaat options are really good, but not all of their dishes are awesome. The dosas are really well. Pav bhaji not so good. Self-service restaurant.
Good.
Tasty Indian vegetarian food at cheap price.
The price is right and the food is delicious 👌
Stop here every time we are out by Dulles airport. Good vegetarian Indian food. Love the dosas.
