Not the best college. Had a very difficult time being able to get and appointment with a counselor for 2 years. Every time I called I was always put on hold for 30+ minutes. I had to figure out how to do things myself because the counselor I had never had time and always gave the most generic answers. Had a better experience googling my questions and concerns than talking to an actual professional 🤦‍♀️

I wasted over 5 grand on a class that was exploiting students. Dwayne Keith was teaching a construction class at the M-Tech center. He was also a landlord. He used the students to upgrade his rental properties. Half the class were doing windows while the others were doing doors. I never learned how to do windows since I happened to be on the door crew. I complained to the dean to no avail and I still owe for a class I learned next to nothing in. Dont go there. My advice.

As a young High School grad with no idea what I wanted to do with my life, GRCC was the perfect place to start. I was able to explore a range of options here and when I settled on Spanish and Chemistry as my specialties, I found fulfillment. My Spanish professors here were thorough and had a great time doing their jobs. I spent time learning Spanish through stories and conversation, and when I had questions their office hours were always there to help.I always had access to tutors in the library when I needed them. When I had issues with my chemistry homework (which was often) I was able tot turn to my classmates and lab partners for help, if not to my professors in their office hours.I will recommend that every single graduating senior attend GRCC.

Absolute nightmare!!! Curriculum was BS!!! We did class work, a classroom work book, text book work, and online homework(which literally took an entire week to do if you are normal with a job and a life)!!! When it came time for a test the instructor couldn’t tell you which to study from as there was so much material and it was scattered everywhere! Only a handful of people even made passing grades!! Waste of my time and my money! Not to mention a paper back book with papers you tear out for class (that we hardly ever used) was $240.00 non-refundable after the instructor said wish we didn’t buy it because we won’t be using it!!! But it was listed as a course requirement! And my “online class” was NOT online which I wasn’t told until I went to the main office to find out why I couldn’t access my class on the portal then I had to change my plans and attend a semester of class that they offered down town that was labeled online. This school does offer some good things but it’s a money pit. Not to mention pay to park everyday or use your raider card to park in offered parking that charges you hundreds for a Semester!!! And the RN program has a 5 year waiting list so you just have to take courses that apply to it and hope you may one day get in the program 🤨

They tell me if I call for help someone can put my ID in and put $3.50 for me to get out of the parking place. This women was like I dont have that power. Like excuse me? All I wanted to do was not get ripped off over something so stupid as parking.EDIT: They helped me with this, and I am grateful! Make sure to let them know if this ever happens to you fellow students :)

This school is accepting and challenging. I feel that my time here was purposeful and that the credits I received helped me out so much to advance my education. While not all teachers are great you can see that efforts are being made to help everyone who goes here have the best experience they can and get a great education. The facilities are dated but they are upgrading little by little.

Had an okay time here. Issues were more of a teacher- to- teacher basis. Teachers that are there part time seem to have little respect for students.Online only classes seem to be a joke. Teacher said office hours were between certain times, but was never there. Responses to questions were slow, sometimes costing me grades by taking days to respond.Financial aid (at the time at least, 7 years ago), didnt care about students needs or problems. Could use better customer service.Counselors were pretty decent, and were happy to answer questions and refer to programs available.

In 2009, my experience was a downward spiral. Since then I have returned to school online in 2018 and I must say that the community college has very well-improved my personal learning experience. GRCC not only sets the standard for its students but it looks to meet students half-way on a personal level per person by being receptive and by identifying new ways to help at risk students as myself.

As some reviews states, youll need to do some trial and error before your path to graduation is in order. My first year here wasnt the best, I had 3 4-credit classes the first semester. It was mostly business related even though I was a web design major. The college gives the run-around on what courses to be completed and which is no longer required. Thats the frustrating part, as mine specifically keeps updating every year. Advisors werent helping the situation but I manage to pull through and complete the remaining prerequisites.Financial aid was a joke. It takes around two months or so to be processed and doing it online was confusing. Half the time, I get denied due to making too much income. Youll meet some people thats very helpful, and some that arent. Some classes that are electives opened a whole new opportunity. I have since graduating several years back.Dont expect a four year level of education at this place, but theyll try their best to prep you for the real world.

Teachers are great (Im sure they have a few that are less than nice but not any of them Im in class with yet) Mrs Dauber, and Mr. Krajewski really care about their students. Both had homework that got the students acquainted with the campus so that we knew where to go if we had any trouble with the work, all the services available, and had many different ways of getting in touch with them to get as much help as possible. I would give zero stars if I could just simply due to the incompetency of the administration and financial aid staff. Numerous times upon my enrollment I had asked about residential tuition fees and what I needed to do to make sure my paperwork was through properly so I was not over charged and had everything set properly for my classes. I have been over charged, the book store has given me a used book that had rips tears and stains all in it that they charged me over $80 dollars for, they failed to get my tuition in on time so my books had to come out of pocket, Any staff member I ask for help or assistance acts as if I am the biggest nuisance to them to HAVE to actually do their job, and I have had to re address countless situations from staff whove told me numerous times Well make sure its taken care of dont worry! This place is a joke for education and any knowledgeable adult trying to better their future will drive the extra time to go to KVCC or another reputable community college that actually cares about its students. This establishment is only out for your money.

Grand Rapids community college is a great place to get your associates at a decent price. Compared to all of the many colleges that make you pay insanely high prices, GRCC seems like the better option to get general education classes out of the way.The reason I gave it four stars is because at GRCC there are a few broken sinks in the newer building, but hopefully they will get fixed soon. However they have been broken for awhile now, and they may be in the process of renovating RJF building (used to be main building) and focusing on that instead of fixing broken sinks.Overall GRCC is a great place to learn and get general education classes out of the way. Just use rate my professor every time before you choose a class and you should be fine.

This school has its strengths and its weaknesses. Most of the professors are really helpful, and has some perks like math tutoring, physics and calculus tutoring, and writing tutoring. All of these are labs that have other unique things about them, and they hire students to be a tutor. The financial aid for me was a nightmare. It was one of the biggest draw backs for me from this school. It was very confusing, no guidance for students, and if you have a problem you need to talk to them in person because sometime the people on the phone will tell you something false. The biggest perk for me from this school is that the credits transfer almost everywhere in Michigan. When I transferred to university it took all of my credits besides some of the computer science classes. My tips for someone looking into this community college: look at Rate My Professor and take some of the reviews with a grain of salt (most are true), go to tutoring if you dont understand something, talk to professors about what are struggling with, know your financial aid 100% (cannot stress this enough!), and come about a half hour before classes start for the first couple of weeks; The parking lot fills quickly and can be hell driving.

GRCC mislabeled a class as an online class and said that everything would be done completely online. After registering, I was informed that all tests had to be done on campus. I am not living in Grand Rapids over the summer and I registered for the class solely because it said that EVERYTHING was done online. When I confronted the college, I was told that I had to file an appeal to get my money back. Over two months later, GRCC has denied the appeal. Now I am out $1100 for a class that I never even opened up in Blackboard. I am so disappointed.

They can help if you are an easy student with a straight-up situation, but they refuse to offer any attention to or arent equipped to handle problems they arent used to encountering with every single student. GRCC has been an absolute NIGHTMARE to work with. It all started out when I wanted to get into an online class labeled Online because I was away for the summer. After I was all signed up for the class I was then informed it was actually a hybrid class. No big deal, I dropped the class before it even started and requested to get my $1100 back from them because THEY mislabeled the class. Well they told me the wouldnt give me my money back on there error, gave me no reason but absolutely screwed me over. DO NOT GO HERE, I RECOMEND ANY OTHER COLLEGE. Communication is poor, all they want is your money. YOU will pay for mistakes THEY make. For online classes check out Delta College, OCC, or Mott CC. GRCC is by far the worst college Ive ever attended! They nickel and dime you at every chance they have, have no pre-loaded student accounts at the beginning of each semester for printing, which means theyre charging 15 cents to 10 cents for a black and white copy and A DOLLAR FOR A COLOR COPY!!!.Their library DOES NOT contain the books of the courses they offer which is UNLIKE ANY college in the state of Michigan!Registering for classes is one hell of a time, their admissions process is also just as difficult. You do not get to choose your professors . It is the right of a student to know and choose the teaching style they need to best work for them.It is an extremely religious government funded school. All of the teachers have some kind of heavy religious background that they do mention and or have some influence from in their classrooms, Ive experienced this personally in over five of my classrooms! I only note this because I am agnostic and do not care about what church you attend. (god(s) is a nature thing not a building thing.)They are more concerned with the cosmetics of their campus than student care and satisfaction. They will spend millions on renovations but they wont even supply their library with the books of their courses. They have a monopoly with federally funded money, whereas at most colleges youre given a higher one card one week prior to semester to order your books from you wherever you choose to save money. BUT!!!! At GRCC YOU HAVE TO USE their book store and theyre used books only run $20 less than their brand new books. Which makes no sense this college is not a students college this college is a corporations college.I have brought these issues up to the board, the President and the Student Congress to which nothing has been addressed or even considered. Grand Rapids Community College could really stand to take a few lessons from Lansing Community College prior to President Knights induction.

I had the majority of money for class already, but was hoping to find a weekend job before I started. My GF convinced me to go thru with it though, so I was rushed through the application process a week and a half before their job training program started.First problem I had with GRCC was that, financial aid took two months to get back with me and, someone failed to enter me into the system correctly, so they had no record of me even taking any classes.Second problem was that, their banking service(Nelnet) never charged me for the classes and, even though I brought this up to numerous staff at the school and to Nelnet themselves, nothing was done about it.THEN, since I didnt pay for my tuition, I wasnt supposed to get the certificate of completion for the course and, yet I still freaking got it!!!!Not only that, but it was required that I waste my time going to hour long lessons from Mi Works staff. Thats 18 hours of practice time that I lost to hear about some BS information that I either knew, didnt care about, or affected me in any way.Its taken them a year to do anything, even though Ive told them NUMEROUS TIMES about the issues and, instead of contacting me to resolve the issue, they sent the due tuition straight to collections! So I say screw GRCC, go somewhere else!

I have had little to no pride in going here, except for the fact of being in college. But it is a necessary obstacle if I want to get to the universities where hopefully the truly intellectual open minded people are. Most credits do transfer and the academics were on the level of worth what youre paying. The student body is all pretty young and seem more interested in the social status of themselves and others than actually going to school or obtaining knowledge. You are not really able to interact in class due to some teachers wanting to constantly be in complete control, any information a student could bring is basically disregarded. The other students seem to want to put others down specifically those that truly interact in class, even when these students that interact just want everyone to do the same. We all have some knowledge to bring to the table, in any situation, but this seems disregarded at times. The faculty seems a bit corrupt. Bad experiences of teachers sharing personal information with other teachers and students alike, including single grades, and potential personal problems a students may have. The students here like to make fake drama constantly like any college I suppose, but here it seems to be embraced to a corrupt degree. I have seen students constantly manipulate teachers and come up with new stories on a weekly basis to try and get other students into trouble, or ruin their reputation, or even try to get other students falsely kicked out of school. A smarter teacher would know to ignore these things and teach the class, but a few of these teachers embrace it and make it an even harder learning environment. The diversity is not what was expected, both race and religion/political views all lean to the Conservative Christian Caucasian side. People of different religious beliefs, or lack of, seem to not even be considered human and deemed evil, let alone embraced or accepted for these different viewpoints. Literally being singled out for not being christian in multiple classes, as well as students openly citing scripture in the middle of class, but the opposing viewpoint to this religion is not even accepted, probably due to the fact the majority rules which is the christian viewpoint. A few good teachers make up for a lot of this and gives hope to continue schooling. The campus is nice and safe considering the location which is great because its right downtown GR. Maybe after some more time here my mind will change but so far this is the sad truth. If you are able to go to any other college you will be much better off doing so. Three million dollars in debt after the winter 2014 semester (while doing a $30 million dollar renovation), due to students leaving, and a provost that left for another college and took a $30k a year pay cut to do so, these facts cant be ignored and can very easily be directly connected to the aforementioned problems spoken of. Oh and the solution to this debt is raising tuition even more. This is my honest opinion after a semester here. After spending two semesters at another cc type college, where the academics did not seem to be quite as good, but none of the mentioned dealings occurred there.

First of all, I want to say how truly blessed West Michigan is having GRCC as a learning institution - right in our very own city! Their outstanding academic varieties of classes, majors, and career choices is superb. Today I had the privilege to watch my son graduate from the LPN program at GRCC. Although it took him almost 24 months (on the waiting list to enroll), I can honestly say it was worth the wait. While waiting to get into the nursing program, he was able to take the basics i.e. English, history, psychology, etc....all while working and saving for enrollment in the LPN program. Upon entering the nursing program, he was guided by some of the most genuinely compassionate, caring, and talented professors and staff. I want to really thank the Director of nursing Michelle Richter, Professor Laura Moody, Glenes Hamersma, Michelle Olszewski and many others who have taught, instructed, and guided my son so well. Although the nursing courses, exams and clinical time were extremely challenging and intensive, he graduated debt free, with no student loans to pay, and best of all, he has already received job offers!!! His future plans are to continue his studies at GRCC towards his RN degree. It was a heartwarming day, yesterday, when my son texted me: I PASSED I officially passed. I got a 92% on the final exam!!!! I am officially successful in the Licensed Practical Nursing Program for Grand Rapids Community College. THANK YOU GOD FOR EVERYTHING!!!!!! Thank you all for your prayers they have been answered. I am proud to say that today, was my sons GRCC LPN Pinning ceremony ! He made me very proud today. Thank you GRCC !
