Wed been here 2 times during our stay in Penang last week.We ordered a few dishes, however, Ghee Dosa, Vada, Rawa onion dosa were the best and a must try here. Also, the chutneys (2 types) and Sambar were so delicious.Of course, we tried their masala tea 😋 and it was authentic.Prices are very reasonable.Overall, a best place if you want to try south Indian dishes.
This is the only vegetarian restaurant in the george town area which replicates the original taste of the south Indian cuisine. The prices are reasonably low. Friendly staff and quick service makes the restaurant good option for frequent bites. There are a few parking spaces in front of the restaurant but usually occupied otherwise there are plenty of parking spaces around the area. A partly wheelchair entrance is possible(from the road to the pavement) the place can get crowded during the late hours.
Its a good place and all but the crowd control is not proper. The waiters are slow now only in providing the menu but as well as cleaning and taking orders as well as serving the food. The wait to seat is extremely long where we have to awkwardly stand in the centre just to wait and fight with other customers for a seat. It was good unless they can properly manage the shop. Unless the problem is overcomed, food is made better, Im giving it a low 2 star. Lowest review I have given
Arrived with a part of 4 people and with spending less than 55.00RM there was plenty of food to make us all full and happy.A couple of shot outs was their mushroom fry (7.55rm); which was really tasty. Along with the special biriyani (11.30rm).I would go back and recommend this spot if you happen to be in the area.*No Wifi**Cash-Only
Last Visit on 06 August 2017:Flavourful Vegetarian North & South Indian food that packs a punch, good array of meals and snacks at reasonable and affordable prices. Popular among the locals. Could be a bit oily now and then, but still good. Service is ok, could be more attentive. Being in the vicinity of the touristy heritage area, finding car parks is quite a struggle, but is not impossible, just might be a bit far away.
Simply fabulous restaurant. The special thali set is so graciously served. Every items in it is very tasty. Hands off to the owner. The food here is really good. I was worried with portion or size of the meal but taste of food had made the space in my tummy to complete. But the chapati that comes together was rather hard....so that was out. The ending with the sweet janggri.....oh....what a taste is just mouth watering very rich in flavour and generous amount of ghee taste. A little Sweet but will not miss it.Overall this place and their food is really value for every cent paid.Super satisfied and fabulous lunch. To the other diners just be careful when order the special thaali set. Bcoz you wont be able to finish all.
Really nice Indian food.. Alot of choices.. The vadai really nice.. My favorite vadai.. The staff is friendly and introducing nice food to us. The fried mushroom is quite flavourful.. Nasi briyani special also worth to try with generous portion... Mango Lassi ahbit too sweet for my liking. I will come back for the vadai and try other stuff..
This is one of the best vegetarian restaurant in little India. If you arr going or planning to visit little India then you may plan this easily accessible hotel as it serves good south Indian food. Few of the highlights areEasily noticable from road/car.Wheelchair friendly entrance not available.Interior of hotel is good.Well cleaned placed.Washroom is clean and good.Authentic south Indian food available.Time to serve orders is little more.Coffee test is really good(Filter coffee)Pocket friendly hotel.Still interior can be improved as customers are from foreign countries and they can definitely raise their standard. Conclusion: if you are in Penang and wants good vegetarian food this is a must visit place. I hope this will find helpful to vegetarian folks.Posted their menu card as well. You can check before you go.
Average South Indian food. The masala in the Rava Masala Dosa was plain and not spiced, salted, or seasoned and the dosa itself was flimsy. The chana masala tasted like tomato sauce. The only North India dish we tried (palak paneer) was also not good. The batura, vada, and sambar were delicious and the only saving grace.
My favorite place to eat in Georgetown! Tasty Indian food, clean place, good service, great value for money. Been to several Indian restaurants around and Woodlands is always feels like a better variant. They have a rather complicated menu (some options are available only at certain time of the day), but it has English descriptions (and thats very helpful if you dont know Indian cuisine very well.Overall – great choice for spice loving people!
Had a masala tea and it taste very good, the masala mix just nice. Love it
Nice place to dineBut it can pretty crowded at peak hours
Went here for.lunch and ordered a set mini meal. Then portions were so good that despite being hungry, we could not finish our entire meal. It was a shame to leave so much good food but there is only so much you can stuff in. It is a typical busy Indian restaurant which concentrates on quality of food and little else. The ambiance could be improved but when you are as busy as Woodlands you dont really care much. Serving food is quick and efficient. Love the place and the food.
Thosai and sambar taste like india. Cutlets are nice too
Good food, reasonable price
This is the best restaurant in Little India and your best choice to get experiance with Indian food.1. Conviniant location. Not far from Chulia street.2. Air condition! Good tables. Clean and cool.3. Very helpfull staff will easy explain what is food consist of.4. Just vegeterian options! Big portions.5. Amazong price! Very cheap.
They serve authentic south indian dishes. Only Vegetarian food is served. The service is fast. Ideal for those who favor spicy South Indian dishes. The menu varies according to time. Breakfast menu is different from lunch. They also serve masalah tea and madras filter coffee which is absolutely delicious
Loved it.Indian Vegetarian restaurant. Food quality and quantity is good. Service is also good, but, little bit slow. Price is also affordable. Tea, vegetable biriyani thali set, dosa varieties ,sambar vada, fried idli are the main attractions. You can also get Chat (Pani poori) on weekends.Indian sweets (peda, jilebi, ladoo etc) are also sold.
💐 Love their food always while I visited in Penang. 💛🏝 ^^ #Indian #Vegetarian Food located in Little India. Variety strong aroma / herbs / dilicious food taste for local indian food. ^^ Hope coming future will have more #vegan options like food that mix with nuts milk, rice milk, coconut milk, oat milk ... etc. To be part of leading us to the fight for current climate change issue.
Food OK. Variety rice and noodles are better than set meals. Service OK. Ambience so so..
Overpriced and dont have value for money
I cant recommend this place highly enough! Food is great and service nice, all in a bustling environment.Sometimes they get quite busy and some dishes might not be available because they simply run out of it. If you go in the evening, take into account too that last order-time is 21:30. After, they only offer their variety of breads.Last but not least. They tend to cook with little salt and oil, which is healthy and still tasty... Its all about spices! Thali and ginger or massala tea recommended.
Service was okay, but the food was mediocre - i.e., ordered filter coffee, but doesnt taste like one - tasted like nescafe; when asked, was told Madras Coffee; one cant cheat your taste bud, can they?😐
Food and service already bad, 14 rm for vegetarian meal outrageous expensive
Great food, unpretentious atmosphere, years of honest and courteous service.
Good service. Strictly follows SOP during Covid pandemic. Cleanliness is great. Prices are reasonable.
If you are in Penang island, this is a must visit restaurant. They offer all vegetarian meals, right from breakfast, lunch, tea time and dinner. Menus differ by timings and served during that period of time only. All menus are served hot and fresh (i mean its prepared fresh). Dine in seating are limited, so expect some waiting time. Must try !
Love it as always. Feels like having the authentic food in India. The ghee dosa is A+++++
After sitting there for about 10 minutes a waiter spotted us eagerly waiting to order & showered some mercy on us.Took our order with a stern looking unsmiling face. The warm water is free. The ambiance is extremely noisy as most of the local diners who were eating, don’t have the manners to speak in a low tone in a restaurant. So, it’s not a place for a cosy, quite dinner. Feels like sitting at a railway platform of a South Indian station. Prices are a bit higher than average from the similar restaurants around.Ordered paper masala doseh, which is best here & it’s sufficient enough for a full meal. See photo.
Tasty food! Vegan friendly, not suitable for vegetarians
Only well known Indian Pure vegetarian restaurent in penang. Most of the south indian dishes available here.
Vegetarian restaurant. Must try chola bhatura
Hopefully these menus is clearer for everyone. Recommend to pre-order esp during peak hours.
Food was ok..i orderd butter masala paper tosai
The menu and taste are quite good. Their tiffens are top notch. The restaurant is quite well maintained. The only thing that makes dissatisfied is they charge additional price for a cup of additional chutney :-(
Great food! One of our favourite places to eat at in Penang!
Their dosa n vadai is usually superb ...all time favourite of mine
One of the best vegetarian south indian restaurants in Georgetown. Taste is pretty authentic.
Good food in quantity and quality, affordable rates, always neat and clean
The thosai served is another level. Especially ghee thosai. I went back twice in week just to bite into that thosai crust! Yes.. you are right.. how the hell is thosai crusty? Well you can only have it when its eaten few minutes off from the pan.. And thats the way they do it! The whiff of ghee.. Omg.. the aroma is as though it is circling around you! And when you have finally devoured the whole plate.. You leave with your fingers still smelling delicious. Best place for thosai! Wins hands down!
Ive been 3 times already and the quality of the food is a constant. The portions are generous and the food is flavourful. I find it affordable as well. The only missing link to have a 5 star experience is the attitude of the waiters. Not sure if they are grumpy or suffer from BRF, but certainly they make you feel more as an annoyance rather than a welcomed customer. The only exception is the woman at the till that has a friendly attitude.
For so many years Woodlands penang has always maintained the taste n at a reasonable cost.... clean environment.... friendly staffs.... keep it going... Good luck n all the best
Food was ok - not the best; not the worst. But the staff made my wife and me feel extremely uncomfortable. We ate quickly and left. There a plenty of other good restaurants with vegetarian options in the area. Id recommend going somewhere else.
Vegetarians food place. Tasted masala tosey & madras tea, simply superb. Closing with sweet laddu, fantastic. Yum yum...
Not that good. Expensive and set meals.lacks any kind of taste. Never going back again. Sorry
Big fan of their briyani and pulao rice dishes. Theyre excellent in taste, consistent and generous with their portions too. A place of good food for vegetarians.
A nice old concept vegetarian aircond restoran.
Food was tasty but the coffee was so and so. Drawback is it took so long to deliver the food.other than that, the place fully recommended
One of the only authentic Indian vegetarian meal in town. Loved the food and polite staff
Best places to have delicous veg Indian dishes with cheap and calm atmosphere...
The food was super good and worth the price
Second visit here, excellent veg food. Great value for money.
Worth checking out if you are in Georgetown. Have been visiting here for 10 years and always enjoy the food. Try the fried Idly which Ive never found anywhere else
Good Food.. Recommendable
