The old bridge at Feroke was built by the British in 1883.And was completed in 1888. Even now it is serviceable. It is said that British engineers have adopted a special method of filling its pillars with molten lead to add strength and flexibility.

Giant engineering monument build way back in 1888 by Britishers.. its wonder because in those period they build the bridge in this width and height, hardly few automobiles on Indian roads then and still it carries traffic on both side without any restriction where our people are still building narrow bridges on heavy traffic highways and that too not lasting even half of this bridge life ...it should be preserve as a heritage once it stop functioning..

Feroke is a census town and a part of Kozhikode metropolitan area under Kozhikode Development Authority (K.D.A) in the Kozhikode district of the Indian state of Kerala.Originally, Tipu Sultan named the place Farookhabad. This name changed into Feroke by the British. It is also assumed that Tipu Sulthan used Feroke as his capital in Malabar. The remains of a fort built by Tipu Sultan still stand in Feroke with a long tunnel to the river. Authorities are trying to preserve the fort remains as a site of historical importance. The old bridge at Feroke was built by the British in 1883.

This can be considered as a working most monument. The bridge built by the British in 1888 is still serviceable crossing the Chaliyar River. The bridge is made of Iron and the bridge is fully covered by these. The Architecture is amazing and incredible, functional after 122 years.

It was built during British rule,so aged above 100, moderately well maintained. There will heavy traffic during evening hours, width is less ,two way route, but only one heavy vehicle can pass at time causing traffic jam during most hectic hours.

This historical bridge should have been kept as a monument. But nobody bothered. From 1888 to 2018 it has withstood all rain and shine and still is a beauty. If maintained properly it will tell lot of stories the traffic above and the water below. Would still like to travel through. The bridge inauguration photo is attached. Enjoy.

It is a bridge built by the British, full of Iron and has been repaired recently it shows the British architechture . It is strong however less traffic is being allowed/happening through this as the new bridge is in functional. It is very nice to see this place during early mornings and late evenings where people would be fishing from the sides of bridge. This is near the Feroke railway station so if you want to reach, keeping that as destination would help you reach here.

Feroke is one of the prominent heritage spots in the Malabar region famous for  its rich history. Known as Farookabad during the reign of Tipu Sultan, it was a prominent administrative and commercial town located adjacent to the city of Kozhikode. Tipu Sultan wanted to make Farookabad (meaning ‘town of victory’) his capital when he conquered Malabar in 1788. But it came  under the jurisdiction of the British when he was defeated. Presently it is part of Kozhikode metropolitan area under Kozhikode Development Authority (K.D.A) in the Kozhikode district of Kerala. This is an old road bridge and its construction was completed in 1888. It is surprising that even now it is serviceable. It is said that British engineers have adopted a special method of filling its pillars with molten lead to add strength and flexibility.

A century old iron bridge reportedly built during the British rule. Quite narrow for present day bidirectional traffic leading to slight traffic snarls.

Its a good place for refreshments and fishing a good scenery is visible from the brigde..and its proud to be a part of historical structure and remembrance of the great stunning works done by British..The works done on the brodge is just mind blowing..apart from seeing the bridge from upper portion...you should see the works done under the bridge...its beautiful it will shows you how much strength, design works and beauty they have brought to build this bridge. Its in good condition today..but little upgradation is needed...Also you can see the leftover of the old railway bridge which was also construct during British periods...and the great tile factory which is well known in world history commercially rich..Its a privilege to be here and see all those constructions which brings history to our mind...

Very narrow bridge. Nobody to control vehicles at both ends. If a bus enters from opposite end then its very difficult for any vehicle wider than a auto. And if both side buses enter then one of them will have to reverse. Most of the larger vehicles cause traffic jams here.

Review №49

Its one of the oldest road bridges in the state which was built by British engineers back in 1888. The structure still remains tall to this date and seems raring to withstand the hardships of many more years to come. The bridge is narrow and can only accommodate bus/lorry in one direction at a time. Even through there are strict warnings forbidding the entry of vehicles taller than 3.6 metres, the crossbars of the bridge have taken the brunt of many tall vehicles and looks in a dilapidated condition. Needs attention pronto! The structure needs to be retained in good condition as a historical monument.
