A museum which precisely gives a virtual experience of running through the historical time line of Kerala. Also a great place for arts, and folklore enthusiasts. This will help tourists to Kerala some needful insights on the history of the state, before proceeding with the other monuments in the state.
Museum of Kerala History is worth a visit if you are in Kochi ❤️This place consists of several sections like Art Gallery, Museum Shop, Doll Museum each on the separate block. Also there is a Main Museum of Kerala History and thats stunning 🔥.Art Gallery is where you are not allowed to click pictures, however I got to know this after clicking few of the pictures as there werent any instructions or sigh board, mentioning that we are not allowed to click pictures 📷❌. Art Gallery consists of mesmerising painting and art of famous artists like Sudip Roy, Sudhir Khastagir, Jamini Roy, Akbar Padamsee, MF Husain and many others.Doll Museum - has more than 150 dolls, all dolled up in ethnic attire showcasing cultural diversity of the motherland 🎎 🇮🇳Main Museum - an entire block is dedicated to the main museum, which is actually a kind of a show including lights and sound co-ordinating to the statue. This show is manually operated where statue is introduced by switching on the light and background sound giving introduction also mentioning importance/contribution to the Kerala history. Light and sound is turned off by the operator post description which is actually an indication to move onto the next one.
Garden needs maintenance and lot of scope for improving the greenery.
Its a good initiative, but ticket charge is little bit high. Those who are interested in history can visit here. There are 3 sections.(Photography is allowed only in one section.)• Paintings(photography not allowed).• Culture of different states of India (photography allowed).• Show(presentation)of kerala history (photography not allowed).-Walkable distance from Pathadippalam metro station.-Cafeteria available.-Ticket fare ₹150/person | ₹75for students.
An amazing place to get knowledge of kerala history, especially about the rulers. Also a rare collection of original paintings are also available.Easy to reach. Calm and quiet atmosphere.Helpful staff members.Neat and tidy.Admission fee is high as compared to other museums.Rs.150 per person. But still it worths.Loved it.
Felt its more like an art gallery than a museum. Interesting display for the evolution of Kerala. The sound and light show is interesting and sets the tempo. In would have liked to see more exhibits on Kerala History. Especially artifacts and objects of significance. There is an art gallery too in the same compound. Like the art exhibit. Was well maintained. My child liked the Dolls exhibit. This was good but the exhibit needs to be optimized. There were many spaces to sit, relax and talk - if required. The courtyard is green and beautiful. its perfect to relax in and contemplate. Availability of toilets make the place child friendly.Entry cost is INR 150 per person. There is parking available right on the road. Recommend a visit.
This musuem houses three different sections. One is dedicated to the history of Kerala. It shows it through 19 figures using videos and figures. Not particularly interesting. The second one within the same compound is quite interesting as it shows the varius traditional costumes in all the Indian states. The third one is an art gallery of Indian artists. It has two floors with 2 galleries in each floor. Shoes have to be taken off before entering the musuems. No photos are allowed in any of the musuems. Entery fees is Rs 150. Quite interesting and worth a visit for the art gallery and traditional costumes sections.
A nice place near to the Pathadipalam Metro station. Its on the roadside. Has a Parking lot after entering the Museum road. This is a Pvt venture under Madhavan Nair charitable trust. The ticket cost is Rs.150 per person. Seems to be a bit costly. It has three galleries1- Dolls Gallery- This has dolls which depicts the culture and the dress of many states and also some foreign dolls too2- Art Gallery- There are 4 art galleries which is distributed among 2 floors. This gallery require some interest in the arts like painting drawing etc. Else it will not be interesting.3- About Kerala- This is the most interesting stuff of the all three. This is also again distributed in 2 floors. It takes us through the Kerala History. Each sculpture is lighted and a voice over about that is played. This place do consists a small lawn with benches to sit. It do have Toilets
Well maintained Museum of dolls and Museum of Paintings.. Museum of History and Culture is really a pleasure to both eyes and ears. Great effort by the team. ❤️
Kerala history museum completed its 25 years....this museum divided into 3 areas#Dolls collectionThere is more than 150 dolls here#Art GalleryMiniature paintingsof mughal and persion is awesome. And painting of famous artists are superb# Kerala historyHere we can see the history of Kerala through audio and sculptures
The museum has a collection of dolls depicting costume, culture and traditions of different states of India. The museum also has a collection of Ravi Verma paintings and different modern art painters. But the best part of the museum in the audio visual museum that tells about the origin of Kerala, various Kingdoms that ruled the province. Entry ticket bit costly 150 rs
The first thing that catches your attention here is the huge statue of Parashurama hurling the axe. With a very interesting form of light and sound show accompanied by life size statues the museum provides an overview of Keralas history from the Neolithic period to the modern age. It is a must-visit for children and also for the curious history-seeker in you. The museum complex also houses The Gallery of Arts and Sculptures, Gallery of Miniatures, and Doll Museum.
Its not the usual museum where history is told through archeological artefacts. It makes good use of technology and narrates a basic history of Kerala through light and sound which would be appealing to anyone who knows nothing about the state. The target audience is definitely not someone who knows the basic history of Kerala, but foreigners and tourists from other parts of the country. ₹100 is the entry fee. The doll museum failed to impress me.
A very good place to spend time, Its a great place if you are interested in history.
Google maps shows the museum is functioning, but it was closed. The actual state is temporarily closed due to the pandemic situation. Please furnish the accurate information on maps.
Though small, geat place to know the history of Keralam
Built & Maintained by the Madhavan Nair foundation this museum is a great achievement in revealing the history of Kerala.Well maintained , clean and neat this museum has a light and sound show also.it deserves to be seen and i suggest the visitors to take time in visiting especially in late evening so that you can experience the sound & Light show. Very well designed and kept clean. It is certainly worth visiting if you are in Kochi.
Great place for once who need to know about kerala history
Good Place.. Lovely staffs👍
It is great place to know about Kerala history.well maintained museum .
Good experience, loved the art and light music show
Nice place. Friendly
Must visit to children and history lovers. The light and sound show through which they depicts Keralas history is very interesting.Nice place.
Nice place to visit, tickets are little expensive.
GOOD EXPERIENCE
Beautiful museum that is filled with historic monuments and art and sculpture collection. A place of calm and quiet. A nice place to spend time in quietude. Those who are curious and interested in about Keralas historical facts and art and craft and sculptures a good place to visit.
Very informative and refreshing. Also theres a good art gallery with an eclectic collection of modern paintings. A doll house and open area for programs. The museum is a window to the history of Kerala highlighting important events. A must visit place with kids and young adults. The museum and the compound is a haven away from the hustle and bustle of the city even when its on the busy highway. You can spend some quiet time there
Not as expected, Entry charges is high compared to what they are offering.
An innovative museum about Kerala history with sound and light interface. Also have a good collection of paintings and dedicated doll exhibition hall. Great way to spend an evening in Kochi at the prime location
Its a great piece of architecture. The exhibits are well laid out. I particularly liked the dolls collection representing traditional attires and some popular dance forms from almost all Indian states. I guess some states were missing (although I am not too sure about that!)The Indian contemporary artists gallery was a refreshing revelation, as I didnt know much about it until my visit. The only disappointing factor was that there wasnt much of Kerala history in the exhibits.
Nice place for art lovers. There is superb audio visual section about Kerala history. And dolls display about Indian multi culture attires. Better be bring the kids and introduce some indian modern art.
Nice place
The place has a entry fee too much for locals to just causally enter. Not saying the place isnt any beautiful, but dissatisfied but the offer for ₹150. Not much to see inside, for a causal like me. Maybe if you are a history enthusiast you might find statues and sculptures significant. Me, was not enchanted to intrigued by some of the artifacts. But there are still interesting peices inside, no to mention the ladies that visit are totally good locking and interesting.
Good and beautifully maintained place. Best place for those who loved history of Kerala and culture. arts and traditional statues are giving the nostalgic feeling of ancient Kerala.
A beautiful ,beautiful space!Interesting history in tableau, and a privately owned collection of art ,which is so worth viewing! I dont know much on art, but our walk through the gallery was so informative and personal, it makes me want to know more! Well done and thank you Aditi and family on a lovely guided tour. This place is a must do. Grab your coffee and sandwiches and make a memorable trip!!
My child loved it. I have visited this in my childhood a number of times. Nostalgic moments! Kid loved the light and sound show and understood. An hour spent well.
Madhavan Nairs gift to all. It is a marvelous peace for knowledge about Kerala history and contemporary art. Worth visiting.
A good place
Calm n quiet place
Nice and quiet out here. Once inside, this seems like a place far away from the bustling traffic that is outside.
Loved the experience. Especially the art gallery which showcases mind blowing masterpieces from renowned artists. I visited this place with french contemporary artist Nadia russel. Even she was so excited after the visit.
Good for setting up an art exhibition or workshop. Good maintenance. But its not much of a museum type .. no rare collections .. just some modern paintings.
People are good.
Must try for gathering
A good maintained premises that conveys cultural and political influences that happened in kerala. An art gallery with some good collections and a doll museum that conveys various cultural atires of india
Amazing experience
The best place to go to study about the history of Kerala. The staff are very good. it is good to bring children with us to study the history of Kerala. The staff are very helpfull. First they will turn on the lights and showw the statue and tells about that statue. Very peaceful place in Edappaly.
Place is nicely located on main road very close to Pathadipalam metro station next station from Edappally (Lulu Mall). Ticket price of Rs.150 per person looks way high for an museum.
Super! Manu S Pillai, very humble, knowledgeable & only 29 years old! Very well organized by the Museum.

Kerala Museum (also known as the Museum of Kerala History) at Edappally, Kochi, India, is one of the oldest art and history museums in Kochi. The museum was founded by philanthropist and entrepreneur R. Madhavan Nayar (1914-1996) in 1986. It is managed by the Madhavan Nayar Foundation, a registered charitable trust.
Lovely place. Museum and art gallery were very informative and enlightening. Well maintained.
Some interesting pieces of Indian art and dolls along with a historical exhibition depicting the history of Kerala. Well worth a visit if youre in the area
It was a wonderfull experience. The audio visual display of the Kerala history is the main attraction. It is presented without hurting the feelings of any religions or political feelings.
The painting gallery is really nice...worth a visit. Old paintings to new generation modern art... courteous staff
A must visit place in ernakulam.
Beautiful museum. Their audio-visual show depicting history of Kerala is quite amazing. Artworks on permanent display are beautiful.
Its really good for kids who started studying social science (7th grade). It would have been better if they have the explanation in English. Kerala history at a glance. Well maintained. Art gallery is a worth to see. Those who doesnt have any taste towards art and history. Please dont visit. Ravivarma paintings are there.
Good ambience
Well maintained place, but very poor service. The cafeteria was not open. Theres no one to guide you around.
An awesome and well kept museum depicts kerala history, one of its kind and well managed and light and sound show is very good. A place worth visit.
Amazing experience!! What blows my mind about this place is that they genuinely try to make art and artistic technique accessible to all particularly through their interactive workshops that are great for adults and children alike!!
Its a very good place to see the different cultures and dynasties of Kerala.Theres a dolls museum and a art gallery having drawings of eminent painters and sculptures. They also have a light and sound show.
Apart from their fantastic Art Gallery collection, Kerala Museum is also hosting a number of interesting art and culture activities like workshops in their venue. It is a growing cultural hub in Kochi city!
Great for people who want to know about the history of Kerala. A one time visit place.
The experience was wholesome and enlightening but the No photography rule is a bit of a bummer. The standout for me was the Audio visual show.
Well laid out campus, not very expensive halls. On the main road and near metro station Pathadi-palam
The place is really nice and cool to visit but the entry fee was way higher than expected even for foreigners. One of the main reasons people dont visit such places .
Beautify space in middle of town with art and culture oozing out from every nook and corner.
A quick scan through Wikipedia will give you more information than the visual show given at this museum. The information is very brief. The show is for about 40 minutes. The entry fee is bit on the high side (INR 150/head).There is a art and a doll museum as well.I will give full marks for the peaceful atmosphere in the museum. You can sit there peacefully and read or write. No interferences.
If you love paintings, then this place is for you ..if you love history (kerala), then this is not for you as the target audience is outside folks who would like to get a glimpse of kerala history through light and sound show, the content of which pretty much most of keralites are aware of.
Lovely place. Wich conducting different cultural activities. We can utilize it for personal purposes too
Nice place to visit. A must visit place for children. Main attraction is the Exhibition of Kerala History. Superb.
