I was a student here and I would VERY HIGHLY discourage anyone from going here. This school is such a scam. They just take in everybody, charge them almost $20,000, and push them out without any standard. My time here, was during covid, but regardless was awful. When we were finally allowed to go to the school, in person, we were practically forced into the salon, even if we didnt feel ready. When my class was in the salon, they had 2 instructors. Now for probably 30-40 students who need help and guidance, with 2 instructors, you can not get the help you need. It is very clique-y, certain instructors like certain students and, if you dont fit into that category you are basically treated like garbage. They finally hired new instructors and, I personally had a terrible experience with them. They would belittle me, treat me with sass when I ask for help, shut down all ideas and creativity I had. Trying to talk to management/office staff is impossible. They dont answer emails and when you finally contact them, you have to wait multiple weeks to have a meeting with them. At one point, they had so many students on the salon floor, they had to take students out and move them up into classrooms, which was a major waste of time and took away from our learning and salon experience. Literally all I have to say about this school is negative. Its been almost 8/9 months since Ive graduated and I havent been able to find employment, and they have not been much help, like they say when you enroll. Definitely, if you are considering going here, please do your research, or go to Est-Elle academy, they have high employment rates and have heard great things about their school.
First time at MC College, my stylist, Chelsea, did an amazing job. I came in for a colour, she really took the time to understand what I was looking for, I absolutely love it. The instructors were always around to consult when needed, it is such a positive and upbeat atmosphere! Chelsea was so polite and professional. She walked me through the plan and continued to let me know what was happening each step of the way!The only thing I wish I knew going in was how long it could take. Definitely block off close to the whole day if youre going in for a full colour or something similar.
I booked pedicures and lash tinting for both myself and my daughter over a month ago. The appointment was confirmed a day prior and then cancelled 30 min before the scheduled start time while I was already en route. There was no apology, just told the student didnt show up and everyone else is booked and we close at 1pm. I asked if perhaps an instructor could step in for a reduced lash only service and was told youre paying for a student, instructors dont do services. I explained I cannot reschedule (this was a surprise for my daughter)and was told I understand youre frustrated but you chose to book with a student and they didnt come. And then SHE HUNG UP ON ME. Student services or not, I would hope theyd teach better customer service than this.
This is great place for a guilt free spa and salon day. Great Students and instructors. Highly recommend giving this place a try. Lovely bright and sanitized salon.Reasonable Priced services.Support the students get them on the road to success.
Staff and students have done a great job during covid of following protocols and keeping the space clean. The students are awesome! They’re still learning but you can barely tell. A great place for salon and spa services at great prices.
I went to get eyelash extensions done here with a friend and I did not have a good experience. To my surprise, most of my eyelashes fell out within the first week, despite following all aftercare instructions. We had lash refill appointments booked today at 9:30AM. At 9:06AM, while we were parking, we were called and informed that there were no longer enough students available for both our appointments. This lack of responsibility is unacceptable and therefore I won’t be returning. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
I seriously cant believe how amazing my experience was today! This is my new favorite place. I thought I would be risking the quality of my haircut/color by coming to a college rather than a regular salon but not only did I have a better experience here than other salons I paid less than a sixth of the cost of what I usually do! Staff is so friendly and personable and really takes the time to listen to what you want. Couldnt be happier :)
Went here today thinking I would have a great experience.not at all. One of their instructors I think her name is Kelly what a rude woman! actually started yelling at me.because I didnt like my hair colour. She basically was going to stop and put her shears down. I will not ever give them my business again! The student I had wasnt very keen, on taking me as a client.but she did her best.i actually had an appt with my regular girl.but she didnt even show up.how unprofessional is that! In a real working world u wouldnt last . Not recommended!😡
I tried the hair salon for the first time and I will definitely go back! Darci O. was my hair stylist and she is very professional, very sweet and easy to talk to. Her instructor, Kindrie helped out with my layers and I couldnt be happier with the results. Both gals together were such a great team. My hair looks great! Darci also showed me a range of hair care products. The prices are very fair and the vibe in the studio is just fun, everyone is so motivated and happy. Im definitely hooked up and will book a couple of their other services next time (manicure, facial etc.).
Got a hair cut and treatment here and my hair looks and feels awesome I love it! My curls were dry and flat before and now theyre defined and happy 😊
You definitely get what you pay for. I would just suggest going to a professional to get your hair done. I wanted a brown balayage with very minimal hair cut off. My beautiful long thick black hair was fried, cut very short (I am assuming because of bleach damage) and dyed bright red. The instructor was so kind and did try to save my hair, it just didnt work out well.
I love MC College!! They do brilliant hair work on my hair!! I just had my hair go vibrant Purple!! Im so pleased with their work. It only cost me $87 for the whole treatment. Its too bad I cant post their work on my review. If I could, I would. I gave them a $10 tip!! I will be coming back to this awesome place. I was in at 9:30am, out at around 1:30pm. 5 hrs I spent there. Man, thank goodness for WiFi. The password for the WiFi is on a sign on the water dispenser. Or you can just ask your hairstylist for it if youre planning on getting your hair bleached and coloured.
I took the hairstyling course and I loved it I learned lots and all my instructors were amazing
I had the pleasure of having Tarryn’s services today. I wanted to have my hair dyed a rather tricky colour and she managed to pull it off! I was nervous about the process but she was so confident and explained how the bleach and tone works and what it would be like so I felt so much more at ease. I honestly didn’t believe that she was just learning how to colour hair, as she is a student! The outcome I got and the professional level to which she worked exceeded my expectations beyond measure.
Went with a bridal party to get our hair done, the ladies we had did such wonderful jobs!! 1 updo, 3 curly half up/down dos, plus 1 short hair style-all in less than 2hrs! The ladies we had did great, were so friendly and helpful, plus our hair helps them learn for cheap!!Each of us only paid $20, that is such a deal for how pretty our hair turned out!! Cant recommend these students enough!
Had the best experience here today March 26/2021 I had the great pleasure of meeting the beautiful Kate who was my student stylist, and her two instructors Jasmine,n Kindree.and of course the professional and Beautiful Angela,! Those women took such great care of my needs n wants I wanted to let people know to please book your hair appts here! Its so worth it! They treat you like a queen. Very professional, kind n very honest. Thank you to all you ladies I had the best day here! And thanks to the beautiful Rose at the front desk.for being so kind and sweet. I love you all! I will be back!!❤❤❤❤I f I could give you more stars I would!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Shkunthala, I am always grateful to you choose me in child development worker program . You have always guided me and showed me the right path.Thank you for providing support and guidance for me. Thank you for activating knowledge and new visions into my career.Without your guidance, life could not have been this blissful.I really appreciate your efforts in being my inspiration and guide.sherry you are an awesome person I ever met , Thank you for prepare me for practicum and finding me a nice place to work.Thank you Dy for there for us in the entire program.
It is always a different experience going to Marvel. Went for a Mani Pedi, facial, body scrub and body wrap. I had a different student for each treatment. Wasnt crazy about the scrub and wrap, it was my first try at it and found the room a little clinical. Not sure if it was just cuz of covid?
Went for permanent hair straightener for first time but after 3 days I washed my hair and it looks same like before like frizzy very disappointed about my service and also they have different prices like one of my friend had same service for 42 dollars and they charged me 84 dollars but that was fine but my hair looks same like before frizzy very disappointed about my service 😡
The service is always so nice. I really love this place and would really recommend!
Was a great experience. Very professional. Would recommend to all my friends and family.
The staff and the instructor are very friendly. I had a facial treatment and a manicure service. I am 100% satisfied with the facial treatment, very relaxing and gentle. However... the manicure took about 2 hours. I am really upset with the result.. I felt so bad for the student because the all the nail polishes were sticky, she had to keep putting new code on 😢😢 kinda disappointed..
Editing my review because MC college did make it right . They definitely rectified the situation. Thank you
They were fantastic! Reannen was so well supported by kind people who genuinely wanted her to learn! What else can you expect :) it was lovely and thank you to the whole team.
Very unorganized, youre confused the whole time. The school is understaffed and extremely bad at communicating. Youll never meet the head coordinator.
Great tour. Taryn was very informative and helpful.
I cannot give 5 stars because i have never attended this institution. I am an international student looking to do a Cosmetology course in Edmonton and i had contacted one of their branches. While doing so by email, i received the cost of the program for International Students 3 different times with 3 different price ranges.I am a Hair Braider and i know about Hairstyling as well due to me working in a salon having that experience. I would love to have an opportunity to do you all hair which I think you all will love. The price for me to study this Cosmetology course is way beyond. For me to spend this amount of money i would expect that my tutor would be there at all times the same way you would expect me to be there
It was aswome everyone was so friendly and helpful. Be back soon
Attended school here in 2018.The instructors were mostly great but the director Analia Rubie had a weird power complex andAnna Gemellaro (director of education) was the single most miserable, rude person I ever had the displeasure of meeting.Anna regularly treated students and faculty disrespectfully and severely lacks at her position as “director of education.”As a successful hairstylist out of school I am able to look at my time here and realized it’s a scam college. The salon manager who worked during my time here eventually got fired after pushback from students when he started dating an 18 year old student, he was in his 40s.Go to Estelle if you wish to learn hair, skip this one.
I have been a cx at mc for 10 yrs the service is excellent the staff are great they go out of there way to make sure you are happy with the service you are getting ny family also comes to mc as well as friends
I like getting my hair done here, as there are teachers to over see the students cutting my hair, the students are always so nice, and best of all its a great deal.
Good prices for being a guinea pig for friendly and kind students to practice on, overseen by professional stylists as well, its all good, Amen🙌!:) ill b back ... !:)
Edited - well although it took days and not only going to the salon manager but actually having to talk to the director of the school to get my hair fixed i did and lindsay jane ( student ) is amazing she did a perfect job and i love my hair ! and i appreciate analia going out of her way to make sure i was well looked after , i will say i suggest bringing in photos of exactly what u want done to ur hair so there are no mixed messages and u will leave happy :)
I love my new style! Keep in mind when going here that these are students training and gaining experience! Go in with an open mind and be encouraging - speak up if you want something done differently. Come here if you are not super attached to your hairstyle and give the students the patience and kindness that they deserve. They are knowledgeable and are trying their best! It was a great hair cut and style for an awesome price. I will be coming back!
A friend booked me a surprise hair appointment about 2 weeks ago. When we got there today, unfortunately only one of us was able to get in at first. I wanted to walk out but the young lady in front convinced me to stay. She did let me know that couldn’t get a senior student that I wanted. My experience was okay but I would like to go back and give them another chance, just to fix my uneven hair.
Please please do not tell customers that a student knows what they are doing when they do not. I have curly hair and was told I would be given to someone with more experience. I was given to someone who had been there for 2 months and definitely did not know what he was doing. Was told numerous times I was in good hands. I told him I only wanted a tiny bit off, as I like my long hair. He then proceeded to chop about 6 inches off of my hair. Instructors did not watch or help at all. My nice, long blonde curls are now an awkward shoulder length bob.I understand it is a learning environment, but a students first time cutting a certain type of hair should NOT be on a customer. Also took 3 hours to style. Not a huge deal for me, I understand he is learning but keep this in mind if you go.
Went in for a simple wash, cut and dry. The girl who did my hair was extremely poorly trained, in my opinion! She did not even bother to shampoo my hair properly. She did not even rub the shampoo into my scalp. She just superficially patted my hair. Nor did she rinse out the soap thoroughly enough. It was all done within seconds! She seemed really disinterested and nonchalant.I had asked for a simple bob cut, and she completely messed it up by cutting it unevenly all around!! I looked like a complete joker with odd pieces hanging out, as I noticed later. Moreover she was extremely awkward and shaky, and it seemed like it was her very first time holding a pair of scissors and giving someone a haircut! Very disappointed!! Would not trust them with my hair again.
My experience here was terrible. When I booked the appointment on the phone for a colour correction, I was informed this would cost $40-$60 and take 1-2.5 hours. Once I arrived there, it took them 1.5 hours to consult with the instructor and figure out how to do my hair the way I hoped. I was then told it would cost a starting fee of $110 and increase if more colouring was needed. This would take an additional 6 hours to complete. I left and went to my regular hair dresser 1 week later. She completed this colour correction + a cut and style, in less than 2 hours and for a flat fee of $95. I would never try the MC College again due to service, time and expense.
Just got my hair cut and a root touch up today. I am very happy with how it turned out despite the long time it took. My hairstylist (I would give a name but Im not sure if its OK to do so) was very open to what I wanted and patient. She explained everything she was going to do and use and if she was unsure about anything she would grab an instructor. The entire crowd was positive and nice to be around.Overall I had a wonderful experience here and would recommend it to anyone looking for services for a small fee.
Sierra did a great job with my haircut. Went in for a trim/lob and it came out nice and even :) If you go to get your hair done I highly recommend her!
Waste of my time. Went in for my scheduled appointment and apparently my hair stylist was a no show. And to get in with another stylist Id be paying way more. They wouldnt honour the price I was offered, nor did they call me to let me know my stylist hadnt showed. Thankfully was able to get in somewhere else last minute. Will never go back to MC College.
I have gone here quite a few times and I have always had a good experience. I first went for my graduation they had a special for hair makeup and nails, the hair was absolutely gorgeous!!! I got so many compliments and the girls were so nice through out my appointment I had other students commenting on the hair and how it looked I felt very comfortable. Then I went up for nails the girls were so nice and accommodating, next was makeup and the girl who did my makeup was so lovely she listened to what I had to say about how I usually like my makeup. The most recent time was a few weeks ago I got my bangs cut and it was a look I was scared to get, but the girl who did my hair was amazing even though she had never done bangs before she did a wonderful job, she asked her instructor lots of questions to make sure she was doing it right, ( I am totally fine being a learning experience) and I love, my new bangs and will continue cutting, my hair like this. Looking forward to continuing to go here.
I had a very bad experience going here November 4th. So after I wrote a not so nice review, somebody reached out to me. She heard my story and dealt with it amazingly. I went back and was helped by Samantha Barba. She was very professional and personable. She even was very accommodating towards my sensitivity of lavender. I dont think the first stylist understood what I wanted but Samantha definitely knew my vision and Im very happy with the results I will be going back to MC College. Im not going to base my entire opinion on one person that I didnt see eye-to-eye with. I love my hair now, the cut is exactly what I wanted.
I got my hair cut there on Saturday and I was paired with Kelsey! Wonderful young lady to talk to and seemed genuinely interested! She did a wonderful job, and lively instructor helped us save my hair from having to be completely cut off! I would absolutely come back again! 100%!! The environment was professional, but I loved seeing the different styles and different characters of the students themselves! (and omg all the colour of hair! It was awesome!) I cant wait to come back in a couple months to have it trimmed again!Thank you ladies!
Last week i did a tour of all the schools in Edmonton . I am going to school for hair styling. My first initial take when i walked into the school was the immense professionalism that i encountered when i entered the salon. i was told told go upstairs to the fourth floor to meet with my coordinator to do a tour. i was overwhelmed with the professionalism when dealing with Olivia. she asked me some questions about myself and it put me at ease knowing that i am at an actual school. she went into great detail regarding the school and the process of schooling. how much itl cost and what the program will be like and different programs they offer. she then took me on a wonderful tour of the whole school. i was overwhelmed by the size, cleanliness and just how professional and stress free it seamed. I have since then been talking to Kayla in regards to registering for the program and still nothing but professionalism. she answers calls and emails promptly and helps me go through steps to help me register for my up and coming program.thank you MC collage for helping me choose the best school in Edmonton to start my career!!
Every time I come here I have such a great experience, but today was by far one of my favorite experiences! Kellie did red balayage in my hair and gave my hair a little trim. Not only was the end product amazing, my stylist was excited about her work and clearly passionate about what she does. I left the salon feeling beautiful and happy! I really need to try the nail salon here one day!
I took a gamble and decided to hit them up for a cut AND color! I was a little nervous since it is a school, and the kids are still new at this. Anyway, I had the BEST experience! The students were nice, and it was fun to watch them working on hairstyles on the mannequin heads and stuff while I was having my hair done. It is really reassuring to have the instructor checking in before the students do anything to make sure they are on the right track. I had Kendra, and she was a super sweet kid, I was really impressed with my hair, and I am totally making Marvel my new hair salon! Great job!
My children sometimes require challenging and unique hairstyles. The stylist they get listens and understands what they want. I could not get this anywhere else. Love Marvel hair salon!
This is my third time getting a haircut at MC! The students and instructors were so amazing and friendly! Totally recommend this place for mens haircut.
I went to the MC College Salon for just a trim and some layering. I was helped by a lovely student named Brenna, who was guided by her instructor, Cathy.Usually when I go to a salon and ask for just the dead ends to be removed, I wind up losing a lot more length than I expect. Not the case here! We determined it was about 1.5-2 inches of splits and dead ends and thats ALL Brenna removed. I lost very minimal length while still refreshing my hair and bringing the healthy look back to it.She was super careful with the layers and made sure they were subtle but helped lessen the bulk of my hair while creating movement. Cathy double-checked them to make sure any stray long bits were caught, but Brenna had done a pretty stellar job.At the end, she also blow-dried and styled my hair, giving me some info on the Good Society product she was using that I loved the smell of. She managed to get a great curl in my hair that I almost never manage, and by the end, I had a bit of an old Hollywood glamour vibe going on!The price I paid for the level of service that I got was such an absolute bargain. Even with buying a bottle of product and tipping, I still paid less than I usually do at a salon for just the service! I was a bit nervous going to a school salon, but this experience has changed my mind. I would (and will!) gladly come back again and again!
I have been getting my hair cut here for three years now - it always turns out great, and I save money, which is an added bonus! The hairdressers always take the time to ensure I get the haircut I want, and offer great styling tips I can do at home. Everyone there is friendly and welcoming. I recommend this place for anyone who is nervous about getting their hair cut - the hairdressers always put me at ease and take their time.
If I could give a lower rating I would. I had a hair cut in July and this girl has no business cutting hair. She does not know what shes doing AT ALL. Fortunately, Im not fanatically about my hair and I was able to go home and do a little bit of cutting and fixing myself. This was my first time going in. I thought I would check them out to get a trim. I will never go back. My sister on the other hand, unbeknownst to me, went in for a hair cut and color for her 50th birthday and they majorly screwed up her hair. It took them two days (12 hours) to fix it only hours before a big 50th surprise birthday party her husband had planned for her. The surprise would have been her showing up with orange hair had MC College not have fixed the problem in time. I dont blame the students. I blame the College....the money hungry investors and the instructors who all they think about is themselves. This is a trade, a skill. Not everyone is cut out to cut and style hair. There should be standards and requirements just like any other trade or profession. If you dont meet that requirement within a certain time period, your retake the course or that level until you do and you certainly dont allow that student to start their practicum when they are not ready. Its not rocket science, Instructors! Yes, we (meaning customers) make the decision to come the MC College with the understanding that these are students that are still learning, but we come thinking that the students are at a level where they have at least SOME skill and knowledge to be able to cut, color, and style hair. Some dont even know how to hold scissors or what basic terms are after six months. I feel sorry for these students because you are taking their money knowing they will never make it in this industry, yet, you will not tell them nor coach them or help them in a way that benefits them. Shame on you! I spoke to Sheldon today, the Salon Manager. He says he has over 20 years hairdressing experience. He confirmed everything I said about how poorly the program is run at MC College and how a lot of the girls dont know what the heck they are doing, but he says, its a vicious cycle and its been like that forever and it hasnt changed. Its the easiest trade to get into when you think youre not qualified to do anything else in life. Its only been like that for so long because you guys allow it to be like that. Maybe its time to change the stigma of hairdressing. All this to say...I will NOT be going back to the MC salon to get anything done. I think its pretty safe to say (although I cant speak for my sister) that I dont think my sister will be going back any time soon either.
Ive gone to a lot of places for my hair, from high end salons, to price friendly ones, to even just box dye. I decided to try out MC college, after feeling like really I have nothing to lose, Ive tried everywhere, and plus my current diy box dye attempt, left my hair really brassy. This was my first time ever going to a salon school, but let me tell you, amazing! The wonderful lady who saved my hair was Tracy and her instructor! It does take longer, because their still learning and need to get their instructor to check. Which, I prefer because you know your hair is being carefully done. In the end, I went in with brassy hair, that looked dull, and one heck of a shapeless haircut. To my nice ashy brown hair, with a hair cut that flatters my face. The price for haircut and colour would of been about 125 with tip, but they had a 25% off special for colour services. So i paid only $110 with tip, of course it could be more or less. Thanks again, Tracy!
If I could give this negative stars I would. If you ask me this school should not be a learning environment. You pay almost $20,000 for the tuition youd think you get pretty good education right? Wrong! You ask for help and the teachers say I told you I wasnt going to repeat myself or Ill just demo it again or they roll their eyes as if you are bothering them, or they shove you out of the way and do it for you. No matter how many times you tell them that you dont learn by watching them do it you learn by you doing it they just dont get it. You get written up for using cellphones on the floor but when you try to ask for help their response is huh sorry what was that because they were too busy snapchatting. This is not a professional place what so ever. If you want to be belittled and waste your time and money this is the school for you, but if you want a good education with teachers who know how to teach properly look somewhere else GOOGLE SEARCH. I wish I never stepped foot into this school!
Highly recommended! They do such a wonderful job and you get to help students learn :) prices are great too. Ive never been dissatisfied here :)
Dont ever trust these people with your hair. The girl that did my hair kept bashing my hair texture. The manager didn’t care. Plus she did a horrible job. Yanking my hair while bashing it the entire time, I couldn’t take it anymore so I left. You’ll pay a very cheap price but your hair will get wrecked. Don’t be frugal. Save yourself the pain.
Wow. I think her name was Sejal I went in a few hours ago and she was absolutely amazing- she did a great job and was really nice. Definitely suggest her if you do to get your nails done i got a mani and gel nails. BUT the other students were all talking right beside us, complaining about their customers and swearing for almost half an hour!? I thought that was kind of weird to be doing RIGHT BESIDE a customer? Anyway it was really clean and super cute there but they didn’t have much colour choice. SUPER CUTE THOUGH and i had a coupon for a free mani so for the gel nails it was only 10$!!! crazy, definitely suggest!
I love coming here! The prices are great, and even the worst of students will still do a decent job on your hair. For the price, and knowing that the students are still learning, its a good experience. The majority of the time Ive gotten my hair done here, theyve done what Ive needed and I left happy. Thanks guys!
I had my hair done here and it was an awesome service. The girl was friendly and seemed knowledgeable. She was quick and I felt very welcomed. My hair turned out fantastic !
Been to the salon to have my haircut a few times and has always been a good experience. However this last time I had booked an appointment at the spa was a bit of a mess. Apparently they had called the day before to tell me my appointment had been cancelled (which I didn’t receive. This may have been my fault for not checking but that’s not a lot of notice for an appointment that was booked a week in advance). The receptionist let me check in when I got there and precedes to let me wait for 30 minutes before informing me my appointment had been cancelled. Very upset by this and can’t say I would book a salon appointment again.
Some good things and some not so good things about this place.Good things;1. The students were amazingly friendly and warm and genuine. They really took the time to do an excellent job and you can tell that they take great pride in what they were doing.2. The instructors were also very very friendly and you could see that they treated their students with a genuine level of respect.3. Quality of what was completed was very good.Things that they could improve on;1. Pedicure chairs were extremely uncomfortable. Im personally 63 and it was very awkward sitting in the chairs that they had. And when I stood up eventually I was so sore from sitting.2. When I got a manicure again chairs very very uncomfortable. Why not offer a office chair or something much more comfortable vs a really awkward chair.3. The manicure stations looked worn out and chipped and old. If your going to charge student a decent amount for schooling where does the money go to ??4. My wife commented on their lack of selection with nail polishes. There was approx 20. And most were the same color just multiple bottles.5. Massage room 7 was ice ice cold and I mean you could see your breathe cold. And if your going to give someone a massage..why not have a massage table vs a regular table. Also might wanna have a pillow under limbs for more comfort. AND MAKE SURE THAT NO ONE WALKS INTO THE ROOM (Happened 3xs that someone walked in while my wife and I were getting our massages). A sign should be put up indicating occupied.
A friend of mine suggested this place to me and I was skeptical to let a student take over and do the job for me. However, I was surprised to say the least how these students take their job seriously and make sure every customer they get leave with a satisfied look. The best part was how every single student lets the supervisor review their work for them. This means having two different sets of eyes to see the way you look before you leave the place.Highly recommended for people wanting to try something new look, I liked the way i was pampered :D...Thumbs up for this place
Brooke M did a fantastic job cutting and styling my hair! Super nice person who also thanked me for giving her the opportunity/practice. Ill go back!!
Truly devastated and traumatized. Went in to have my hair toned told her I wanted to look like my blonde daughter as I already had bright blonde hair came out looking orange brown the instructor that was assigned to me. wouldn’t even deal with me! after I had gotten upset about the colour of my hair! she just referred to me as It! the student was asking her for help and she was like I’m not dealing with It!!!get the manager! The manager was very nice about trying to help fix it but he couldn’t stay for the end result. Which I’m still not happy with. When The manager left I totally felt an energy shift and the women’s cattiness came out in full force! everyone was giving me dirty looks. except for the student that was left to clean up the mess .She was very nice to reassure me that the way I was feeling was OK! and that the first instructor was being inappropriate . I had booked an appointment for this past Friday but my anxiety got to me and I just can’t go back
First time I go get my hair done here...went in with open mind...knowing it is a teaching school. Root touch up and layers took about 3hrs. Too much was cut off initial blunt cut by student so there was not much room for the layers I originally wanted but instructor took over and finished my hair cut which is Super awesome and relieved she knew exactly how it needed to be done and how to do the layers without cutting an extra ton. Thank you teachers for being soo patient and available when needed. I love my hair! Reccomend any day.
Make sure you know the person who is doing the haircut for you. I mean a fresh start student hair can ruin your hair style definitely. Trust me they really did.
Love my haircut! They have an instructor check the students work after which is really reassuring.
Haircut great job!! Went in for foils instructor said no we will dye your hair and when in grows out it will look good...ok..Well dye my hair told them my hair takes dye easy..well sat me down on the chair Holy my hair is orange!!! They fixed it as much as they could and didn’t charge me..that the only good thing about that dye job..
I attended school here graduated in 2014. I get my hair done here use to see a friend I worked with do to my hair but that stopped so I come here
I have been to the school a few times, although some of the students need to be a bit more careful particularly around your ears .. felt as if one of them was going to rip them off with her comb, not careful what so ever, but she was aware of it and kept saying sorry .. I would think if she was aware she would learn better techniquethe other reason I say just good is because there are obvious students there who dont seem to care, this is obvious with some of the chatter that goes on between them .. not really a good client boost to hear some so bored and disgruntled. That said.. it is constructive criticism to help the instructors and training .. the results of the cut and color in one case was done very well in the end ... And thus far on 3 separate visits, I have been checked by the instructor, not just a sign off . so perhaps if there are instructors who are not doing their job this too needs to be addressed by management ... overall . I have been happy with the results
Love the Haircuts Thanks Luna
I never pamper myself but i had a co-worker suggest i go to MC to get my hair coloured as salons could be pricy. It was my 50th Bday. I sat in the chair for 6 hours to have my hair coloured orange. I advised them during the process that I believe the student was doing something incorrect...they ignored me. The place was closing and they needed payment prior to closing, i paid them prior to discovering that my hair was orange as it was still processing and covered. Once the all the rods came out we discovered this. I had to come back the next day to sit in a chair for another 6 hours (on the day of my 50th bday where my husband planned a surprise bday party for me) for them to fix the orange hair. They stated they couldnt give me my money back but they will fix it, they stated that well, you know they are student learning....but they did give two small bottles of product - wow...really? My hair was fried and dry with all the stripping they unnecessarily done...and this is how they compensated me. Save yourself the agony...dont go. I really kept my cool during this whole process, but looking back...I am not sure why they could not have reimbursed me my money when asked for it. Sure they fixed it, but is has been 3 months and my hair is still dry and damaged. They accept any person with or without talent and with little or no training to work on a persons hair....All they care or want is the money. This schools priority is not to educate, it is ALL about the money.
Amazing service and did a great job with my hair treatment and cut! Great prices for students on a budget!
Wonderful service thank you!
Dont go there if you value customer service or your hair! Worst experience Ive had! Yes they are students but it shouldnt be that bad! Worst hair cut! Terrible unprepared service! Dont waste your time or $
My daughter came for a wash and cut. She had a relaxed and comfortable experience. Our stylist was kind and friendly.Overall a lovely time. Will come again!
Students are always accommodating with my relaxation messages. I only had one bad experience and their excellent customer service team aided in correcting the issue immediately. Always enjoy myself when I come here.
I would never trust a hair dresser there again. I showed her with my fingers how much I wanted cut off, and she took triple the amount. I was in complete shock and after I left, I balled in my car. Im not sure if the students knew that I wasnt deaf, but the unprofessionalism that they showed in their conversations and comments of being very afraid to cut their upcoming clients hair and verbalized how they felt they would mess up, did not make me feel anymore confident being there.
Great place to get your hair cut at a fraction of the price as other places, and you help students by giving them a chance to learn.Dont show up if you want a fast appointment- students are learning, so they take their time to do their best.
MC College stuff is very supportive and helpful one day I spend with myle teacher she is very honest and loving teacher I really like her teaching way I love myle teacher respect 💕
I habe always loved it here. Every serviceb excellent everytime
I went there for highlights. They did a test run for my favorite color and said that is impossible, so they started to dye my hair a darker color to make sure it works. I was there from 10:30 in the morning til 4:30. 6 hours! In between the instructor came and said sorry there was not enough product and we have to do it all again. Finally after all nothing was changed in my hair . I told them but they said oh yeah there is a change when you get home youll see it. There was nothing on my hair literally. I came back to talk to manager for two times but they kept telling me she is off and will call you back. Never called back!!
I am thinking to not wasting my time updating my review, but I had to write it so people can see the salon better through my experience.I went there a few times, I had try a haircut, color, treatment, massage, pedicure, and facial. (honestly, they price is cheap. that is why I want to try it). This salon is a student learning salon, sometimes you got the WORST student, sometimes if you lucky you got the experience one. (You can ask for experience (almost finish their study) one).1st time I went there for haircut & I got the experience one and she is amazing! The cut is just what I want, she gave lots of hair treatment, she style my hair beautifully.2nd time is for color & I got kind of new one. I had a virgin hair at that time. The color is look cheap! blotchy here and there. (not happy)3rd time I decided to fix the color there again and asking for a blonde (they charge me $125, almost double the price because I asked for experience student). and they did reached blonde color just almost to my root and a solid dark blonde to the root (that is so ugly and I need to go back there and asking for a blending, and the instructor is the one who did it for me because the student were not there at that time).4th time is haircut that is MAKE ME DONT WANT TO GO BACK. the little girl has a tiny cover that is different from mc college cover. I asked for a trim and she cut my hair just like she playing to cut the Barbie hair (I dont call it haircut, I also dont call it a trim). she cut so little (maybe bcz she is nervous) and she asked the instructor so many times and still not sure so she just go ahead, pull my hair 5 times and do the 1 inch cut for 5 times 5 TIMES! 1,2,3,4,5 cut! my hair left uneven but because I had awesome layer haircut before I went there, so her cut is NOT NOTICABLE!I ask for straight hair as a style and the way she flat iron my hair is just pull a bunch of hair with her hair (without combing) and directly flat iron it. I told her that is not the way to do it and teach her the right way and she look dont like it and keep doing it!(I learned from my mistake and become their guinea pig)The rest is for treatment which is ok. I go for a head massage and hair mask, no complain.I also went for facial, which is ok too. as long you dont have any problem with your face (like acne) you will be fine.Massage is just a relaxation massage and nothing special but relaxing.pedicure I am not happy because they did not dry it and just let me go with a wet nail. so... of course the nail polish is just messy after that.so good luck when you go there
Amazing experience. everyone is super friendly and nice. Its such a cozy place and everyone seems genuine.
I had my hair cut last week by one of the students at MC College. They were very accommodating - I was actually able to get in same day.I asked to have my very long hair cut quite short. I was paired with Steph, who seemed pretty confident with her skills and asked for help/guidance from her instructors when she just wasnt sure. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and I really enjoyed my experience there.A friend of mine had had a cut done thru the college and said she had a good experience so I thought I would try it out as I had been looking for a new stylist.I am very happy with the cut and the overall experience was great! I would definitely recommend going there - discounted cut fees but more importantly, helping these students gain experience!I would go there again for cuts and likely other services.I wish Steph all the best in her career and hope that I can find her later on down the road after graduation as I would certainly adopt her as my new stylist!
Update: Sheldon, the salon manager, has called and was very polite and apolgetic. He has offered me a dye and cut if I choose to give them another try. I appreciate the quick response. They seem to really care about their clientele and are willing to fix any mistakes.I booked an appointment for 930 am for a dye and a cut. Nothing overly complicated. I had assumed it would take a few hours at most... The girl who cut my hair asked for someone else to help her so I thought that it would be quick with both of them colouring my hair. It took 5 hours, my highlights didnt go as bright as I wanted (but I can live with it) and the girl didnt even cut my hair. Her instructor had to cut it and she did it in, what felt like, under 5 minutes because they were closing soon and wanted me to leave. Her hands (the instructors) were shaking so bad that she didnt even give me a straight cut. I have curly hair so I didnt notice right away until I straightened it and I found chunks of my hair SIGNIFICANTLY longer then the rest of my hair. They said if I wasnt happy with the cut or colour to book back within 48 hours. She also offered me a free scalp massage and style since they didnt have time to give me one. However, I do not want to sit there for another 5 hours to get a straight cut and brighter color that should have been done right the first time. I can forgive the student but not the instructor. If you dont know the person who is cutting your hair spend the extra money and go to a salon.
I love receiving the newsletters each month but I wish you would put the pricing of the products that you are advertising.
Students here are train professionally as you have a professional look with such a good price. Love it, love it.Goob job, Ameer and hail to your Instructors.
The student haircuts here are usually a gamble; Ive had a couple phenomenal ones and a few not so great ones. Yesterday was a mixed experience for me. I was kept waiting for 20 minutes with no apologies from anyone, which threw me off a little. The student that was assigned to me was very friendly and communicative. She did a really wonderful cut and stayed away from texturing my hair, because I specifically said I hate having that done and that I didnt want to lose too much length. I was pleased with the haircut and she went to go get one of the teachers to check it out. The teacher proceeded to grab texturing shears and a hair trimmer and cut my hair into an extremely short, texturized pixie. The student even tried to stop her and tell her that I didnt want that. The haircut is cute, but its definitely not what I asked for and 3 months of hair growth is gone . I will never be back here, as I can understand when a student makes a mistake, but I cant handle a teacher taking over a haircut and not consulting with the client at all.
Just had pedicures and manicures here with my daughter. The young lady work on my daughter was awesome. However the one that worked me wasnt not even good and half assed it.Had gel put on my nails. Toes are ok but the fingers were awful and have already peeled off.The instructor was awesome even offered to redo them but after already being there for 3.5 hrs getting this done I could not stay any longer. The only thing that saved me from giving this experience a 1 or less star was the young lady doing my daughter and the instructor.Wont recommend for these services at this point
I have been coming here for 15 years it’s the only place I go always so nice and friendly and I actually get what I ask for and it does not cost an arm and a leg
Litterally the worst hair experience I’ve ever had. They should not be letting some people cut hair. Didn’t do what I asked at all. Barely spoke English. It looked terrible. I will not be coming back.
I always have trouble letting people do stuff with my hair but I decided to change it up. I wanted a balayage and showed a pic of exactly what I wanted and they said no problem. After 5 hours I left almost in tears. My hair was much shorter than I wanted, I stead of just straight up layers they gave me a “framing” idk what that is, but it looks bad. There was no balayage (I wanted the fade to be mid hair length. About near the ear. But instead all but an inch of it is pure blonde. Not even nice blonde.. like a hay bale that got spray painted yellow.. it very closely resembles a hockey boy who used box dye to colour his hair after his u15 team made it to provincials. Besides that everyone was very nice. But I wish I could rewind and stick with my normal boring hair. Too bad you can post pics ..
I went there to get a haircut and they kicked me out because “ I didn’t smell good “Very disrespectful place I will escalate this to head office
My experience today at MC College is definitely worth sharing and writing a review for. I had 3 individuals put time and effort each on my hair. One of the ladies really washed my hair and untangled the hell out of it (my hair is hella curly), the other guy spent time on lining up my beard and side burns! Finally, it seems my curly hair was slightly too difficult of a task to practice on since the salon is worked by students. So the instructor spent over an hour, texturizing my hair, and thinning it out. All while holding an informing conversion with me about different hair types relation to different ethnicities, while teaching her students. She ended up not charging me and only asked for me to have a good holiday.Thank you very much Jujana and Merry Christmas to you.
Worst experience ever. I do not like the instructor that was teaching their students. She is very lazy and was not helpful. It seems like all she wanted was to make money. And insisted that lightening hair was out of her students scope! I wil NEVER come back here again and I will most definitely NOT recommend anyone to go here. GoodLuck if you think you can get what you want here.
Now, let me start by saying that I didnt have any services done here yet. I had booked to have my hair and makeup done for a wedding. I was booked for first thing in the morning as the wedding is at 11:00 on the other side of the city, The girl who booked my appointment was super accommodating and was going to have the makeup student come and do my makeup at the same time as my hair to be sure that I made it out on time. I called today (three days before the wedding) to confirm my appointment and I was not scheduled for makeup. They had booked me in for my hair but somehow missed putting me in the system for makeup. There is no way they can squeeze me in now apparently and its too late to look somewhere else thats open that early in the morning. I will never recommend anyone to use Marvel for their makeup and spa services considering you cant guarantee that you will still have your appointment just days before. Never have I been more upset with the service industry and it shows bad form for when these students go out and work in their own salons as well, if they cant keep simple appointments while still in school.
I have said yes to an appointment - Colour and streaks to be done by my young niece going to this school - hoping all goes well! Will post review AFTERWARDS!
