Visited twice during our stay in Durham it was that good. Flat White kept coming up as a place to visit when looking for places to eat/drink in Durham & it didnt disappoint. If visiting on a weekend, be prepared to queue outside whilst waiting for a table but it is worth it. Coffee is superb, the cake delicious and the pancakes stacked high!
The food here is incredible! The coffee is fantastic and their new menu is fabulous. Good veggie and vegan options, food is reasonably priced, with only the juices and milkshakes being a bit pricier. The service was excellent, everyone is lovely and friendly. It is very efficient once you have queued to enter.
Great coffee and in proper sizes. Not those gargantuan mugs of milky nonsense. A long black was just right - an espresso shot with about twice as much water again. Not a mug! Coffee itself was really good. Fruity and rich. Not over roasted or stale as you get from pretty much every chain outlet. Special word for the toilets. Really made me smile. Try the place and youll get what I mean.
Delicious food & very generous portions. Great for brunch/ lunch or afternoon tea with a slice of cake. Staff are friendly & helpful too!
Very good coffee so worth the wait if you are into coffee. Busy at peak times even if you want take out. We didnt try the cakes but they they looked like they would be worth the calories!
Cappuccino was delicious but me and my wife ordered two large cappuccinos and got it in two different cup sizes which made me think that one was regular and the other large but at the beginning the staff wanted us to pay fort two large coffees and this is where the minor argument broke out and everybody tied to keep to their different point of views against my better judgment. But eventually the staff agreed with our point of view and we agreed to pay for one large and one regular cappuccino. But I think that for our inconvenience the price we paid should be further reduced.
Queues outside are a testament to its popularity. Possibly the best place in Durham for a great traditional breakfast although allow plenty of time as the young, hard working servers could do with some organisation. Great quality food at premium prices but its not always clear who is in charge.
Welcoming, friendly service. Good COVID protocols. Delicious food and drink with reasonable prices. Cant ask for much more!
Very nice breakfast, the eggs Benedict were cooked to perfection and the buttermilk pancakes were so tasty. Would recommended if your in the area
Beautiful calming spot. Food was great and stuff very friendly. Loving the plants touch. Definitely visiting again.
Fantastic food went back a second time.Had to queue but worth the wait!We have family near Durham so we will be back at every opportunityJackie and DaveFromLancashire
Beautiful little place, had to queue as they didnt take bookings but it was well worth the wait. We had full breakfasts with the ginger, carrot and orange juice and an orange juice and tea respectively. It was all delicious and in the green plant surroundings felt so relaxing!
Shame queues and service can both be slow as food is great. Very impressed with portion sizes as it has that hip atmosphere I often associate with tiny morcels at high prices but this was fortunately not the case here. My meal was generously sized and delicious.
Had to wait 30 mins for brunch. Great service. Great quality. Prices high to reflect previous points.
As a foreign food lover I can guarantee this is a place where you can have a very special brunch. I went there and asked for Benedict eggs, they were really good. The service was good as well. Coffee was pretty decent. I went there with 8 friends, but we couldnt be placed together, they have tables for only 6 people. The place is nice and has a good vibe, I would definitely go back, but only with a few friends.
Extremely cute place for a great brunch! Busy on weekends (so plan ahead), but a really lovely, airy space that also happens to have great coffee and a range of delicious food options. Pancakes were thick, fluffy, and filling. One thing to note is that there are 2 Flat White locations in Durham - this is the larger of the two, and may have more foot traffic because of this. This is also the more accessible of the two options, however there is no washroom on the ground floor (will need to use stairs).
Warm and cozy restaurant with delicious dishes. You can order their breakfasts until 11:30 and after that you are able to order their brunch diches. The service here is pretty good, they are really kind and will serve you with a smilenon their face.Prices are not really that high for the actual food you sre getting, but you should carefully select the sides you order as they have an extra price.Personally, I would recommend the Salmon Bagel, it was simply delicious.
Great breakfast. Nice vibe and friendly staff.
A disappointing visit after reading such positive reviews. The service was incredibly slow and disjointed. Quality of food and drinks were mediocre.
We just had a visit to Durham and after speaking with people were recommended this restaurant. We will always come back, no doubt. Food is amazing, 1 out of 10, cakes are so nice and various flavours and all environment is so well created, old connected with modern. The only minus was a long queue and the waiter mixed our cakes, needed to ask twice to change. We had eggs Benedict and eggs Royal and Pistachio, almond and lemon loaf. Finally I found something different in the North East.
Extremely tasty food, great vege options, great coffee, excellent cakes.Only improvement would be some Marlborough Sav on the drinks list :)
Amazing food, chilled interior and attentive staff.
Great coffee and light breakfast. Highly recommended.
It is a great cafe with a nice gluten free pancakes
Lovely experience. Food, juice, coffee, cake and ambiance, all perfect.
Quirky. Loved the baked eggs.
Lovely coffee. Always a queue outside but worth the wait.
Very friendly staff and a good meal with relaxing decor
Amazing breakfast. We had to queue for a bit to get in on a Sunday morning but this place was worth it. The avocado toast with poached eggs and chillis was the best I’ve had. French toast was also excellent. Tbh everything we had was great. Couldn’t recommend this more. very nice and delicious
2 days in a row had breakkie here and goodness me what a perfect way to start the day! You might have to wait few minutes to get a table as food is fantastic and so is the service but is defo worth your time. Half stash of pancakes, omelette with salmon and avocado with poached eggs are simply divine. Absolute gem, do not miss out!
Great service, good food, fair prices.
Amazing pancakes and chai latte :D
Great staff, thorough Covid measures and not forgetting first class coffee and nibbles, definitely worth a visit.
One of the best cup of English breakfast tea Ive ever had! The chai latte was really tasty as well but in the end, the highlight of my visit there was the Walnut banana bread: Delicious! Plus, the friendly staff had it warmed up for me and it went great with a chunk of butter! My wife had a cake of polenta and lemon which was also great. If I ever comer back to Durham, Ill make sure to swing by again.
I would go a 5 star rating due to how friendly the staff were and the coffee was very tasty. The food was a major let down though, for the price, it (in my opinion) lacks taste. The French toast seemed cheap and the bacon on it tasted very cheap. The ambiance was nice and calm, and the actual sitting area is lovely with nice pictures (artwork) hanging on the walls.I went because it is apparently a very Durham thing to do, but I doubt I will be back.
Nice food but latte small and over priced
Customer service is bad, it seems that the waitress don’t know how to speak gently and politely. Also the information on the google map is totally wrong, it’s said it close at 5pm, it’s actually it’s 4 pm, and no tolerance, if you are late just don’t bother to come here. Very disappointed.
My son took me to this place saying that is one of the best caffe/bistro place in Durham and that people are queueing to get in. Indeed we had to stay in the queue to be sitted.Waited about 20 minute. That was OK as I knew in advance. Then we were taken upstairs by one of the girls working there. The place is really nicely done with a lot of attention to detail. I liked it. However, we waited for a portion of a simple stack of pancake with syrup for about half an hour, if not longer. People who came after us got their food the same time as us. Just wondered why would we have had to wait so long for some pancakes when we all know how easy and quick is to make them, even from scratch. Their fresh orange juice was sour and it just didnt really raised to the standard of a good fresh fruit juice, not to mention it was the most expensive I ever drunk. Perhaps this time it just happen this way, but the review is written on the experience I had.
Best pancakes ever
Beautiful food and the coffees and juices are delicious. Great services and lovely deco, you tend to que but its never that long. Well worth the wait.
I thought we would definitely get in here today without queuing as the students are gone (yeah😄) and it was 11am on a dreary 27th December. Nope still had to wait for 10mins. We managed to get a seat on ground floor but there is seating upstairs too. Had a delicious avocado, poached egg, feta and chilli on sourdough and then just a leetle piece of his lemon and pistachio cake - also gorgeous. Staff never seemed to stop but still managed to be very pleasant. Toilets downstairs were in the bowels of the earth ( see photos) and have amazing old crapper loos with handles in the middle of cistern- definitely worth a look even if you dont need to go😳🤣
Coffee was quite weak but expensive and seating is only suitable for small people.
Good service, nice food.
Gorgeous cafe. Placed in a small nook off Elvet Bridge, with a picturesque outdoor seating area. Great choice of drinks and well-priced.
