Durgapur Barrage over the mighty river Damodar (once named The Sorrow of Bengal because of the devastating floods it caused creating havoc in downstream Bengal) was built as a part of Damodar Valley Corporation to control the flow of the river and to supply water for irrigation purpose. The barrage has 32 lock gates. The bridge connects the districts of Bankura and Barddhaman (now Paschim Barddhaman) and is extremely busy with to and fro traffic.

Their are near about 32 lockgate and each & every lock gate is locked expect few lock gate but in rainy season near about 11 lock gate they open it for passing of water. As if they dont pass the water then the barrage will be broken with huge pressure of water. The lockgate also connect durgapur with Bakura. Love to watch passing of water in rainy season. Now it has been fixed by the team of engineers.Durgapur Barrage is the lifeline for the domestic life and industry life of Durgapur.It has been serving for many many years to fulfill the needs of Durgapurians and still needs to be serve in future.Now, the water from Durgapur Barrage also serve the needs of Bankura district which is connected by the large hume pipes.Nice place.Beautiful.Well connected roads and well maintained.Traffic is heavy.One and only road to connect Durgapur and Bankura directly.Best of Luck Durgapur Barrage.

Go from dpl township side, you will find a makeshift stairs near river side. Ok place to enjoy an evening.

Good viewing and photography place. Water reserver of dam with lockgate. Nearby burning ghat may be place of mental peace..

This is a neely made structure.its strongly built.roads are of concrete such that it doesnt gets broken.the road is also wide enough with multiple lane.the colour of the gate is highlighted such that this is seen from a long distance.
