Cheese from 3 different milks that aged in oil for 6 months is great. Octopus on rocket salad was very tasty too. Homemade prosciutto was the best I ever tasted and the first one that was not chewy. Lamb chops were okay. Rosemary potatoes along with the sea bass really topped off a great dinner. The atmosphere is one of the best you will find in montenegro
Possibly the most incredibly beautiful setting you can imagine - it is like being in a fairy tale. The food was good, service attentive. Bring a sweater as it can get a little cold in the evening once the sun goes down. We opted for simple local dishes and it was certainly more expensive than other local restaurants but totally worth the atmosphere. IF you are on a budget...at least go there for a glass of wine and dessert...you will be glad you did.
Worth the visit just to have a look. We never ate here but it’s a very nice restaurant. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and let us wonder round the historic building, gardens and water features. Lots of fish & eels in various pools plus a nice small harbour you could arrive to the restaurant by boat.
Way too expensive for what you get. Just stop over to have a look at the beautiful lake and then be on your way again. Paid 75 euro for appetizer, lunch and a drink.
On August 30th around 6:15 pm. we had an accident on the territory of this restaurant. There is a swing on the territory of the restaurant. My boyfriend decided to go for a ride on a swing and due to a malfunction of one of the swing, he immediately turned over and hit his head on the stones.Despite the fact that this situation took place on the territory of the restaurant and they were required to provide him first aid, they tried to convince us that all is good and situation is not as bad as we see it.They provided us with a bottle of water, towel and took my boyfriend to an ambulance where he received zero help. Medical worker provided us with totally pointless paper and poor roller-bandage.Once we back to the restaurant manager told us that we should drive to the hospital and make suture. (They advised individual with broken head drive 1 hour by himself, what a good idea!)They were obliged to provide assistance and pay medical expenses, but they did not. We intend to bring this case to the court as they’re behavior in this matter is not appropriate. As the guest of this restaurant you should know about their attitudes towards their clients. The restaurant itself located in nice green area. Service was good but food is not that special. Tasteless as in other Kotor restaurants. Definitely overpriced. We spent 75 euros for soup, caprese salad, rice and bottle of water.
Perfection! Most amazing place I have ever eaten! The food was to die for! The grilled sea bass was awesome as was black ink risotto. Local almound cake so yummy. Absolutely the best in Montenegro!
It was my first time in Montenegro and definitely not my last, specially because of my unforgettable memory at Stari Mlini. The place is absolutely stunning, with gorgeous nature, tucked in between beautiful river and Mountain View. I had arrays of seafood dishes, desserts and cocktails here. The dishes were very delicious, fresh and I had to come back a few more times just to have more of the delicious Menu. My favorite was baked octopus, local soup, garden salad, carpaccio and almond cake. A must have!! I will definitely be back soon!
Beautiful restaurant in a perfect location. Food was excellent as were the staff.Certainly not a budget restaurant - but you get what you pay for and then some.Make sure you walk around a little to discover the trout pool and over the bridge to the swings!
I highly recommend this beautiful restaurant. The setting is simply stunning. Ive chosen this place for a romantic dinner for two and on my reservation request I asked for a relatively secluded table. The staff was fantastically helpful and seated us in a very quiet area of their garden. Its definitely one of the top 10 best restaurants in Europe Ive ever visited.
Fantastic ambience, spectacular local food! The quality of the food is always consistent on each visit. Wine list is excellent. The service never disappoints. It is perfect place to dress up and go on a lunch or dinner date.Definitely recommending to anyone visiting Kotor.
The view is really nice but the food we order had no taste. Didn’t expect that from such a restaurant.
Extremely high priced, the garden is pretty but the food is not good enough for the price, 50 euros for an octopus dish which it barely fed 2 people. This is not a good example of Montenegrian cuisine, this is an example of high income people wasting money on things that are not worth it. You just pay for the garden. This is another tourist trap. If you are Montenegrian and you pay 25-30 euros por a dish this small and with this quality its because you dont know your country, there are hundreds of better places to go out which will serve you well. I dont recommend Stari Mlini
Food was very good. Location is lovely looks cute and cozy.Quite expensive.
This place was just ok. The location is really nice however the service that we received was not worth the price that we paid. Our table was full of bees, so I kind of suffered to finish my food as I had at least 10 bees over my plate. Additionally, they forgot that we wanted to order fish as wellC therefore we had to wait for about 1 hour+ to get our food. We order salt cooked fish, and my plate was literally full of fish and strong salt as the waiter didn’t cut the fish properly. A bit of a nightmare. I give two stars because the starters and the location were nice.
Weak. The food was not good. Everything either very salty or very bland. We ordered eggplant, wasn’t cooked properly. We were still hungry in the end so ordered the soufflé. They messed upThe first one. So waited another 20 minutes. Got a second one, weakest accompaniment of ice cream we have ever seen. Great views though for the Instagram crowd. Weak food. Weak service. Do not recommend
Very nice place to eat and rest. If I’ve visited it over 80 times in past decades, and every time was satisfied.
Service level is below acceptable. We have waited for a long time and never got a chance to be seated in a nearly empty restaurant.
Good looking restaurant..with pleasant atmosphere...Sadly food is Overpriced..and portions are to small for that cost
The place is beautiful but the prices are a bit too expansives regarding what it is.
The food was great. The ambiance was beautiful but the service was extremely poor and this is why I gave this restaurant 3 stars. The waiter seemed unprofessional and very condescending, it took a long time for the food to come out. It took him 15 minutes to bring a glass of wine. Whenever we asked for something he seemed annoyed. Service means a lot to me and I must say I do not tolerate bad service! Good service can save a bad meal but bad service could never save a good meal!
Awful! Super overpriced place, even more expensive than in Budva Old town.We ordered soups, octopus and cuttlefish. The food was below average. They brought appetizers - some bread and olive cream. It appears to be not free. Nobody told us that this “compliment” will be included into our bill. 3euro per person for a slice of bread and little cream! We felt fooled with this cheap trick. The waiter should have told us that we need to pay for this appetizer and leave this decision for us whether eat it or not. There are more place closer to Kotor where you can eat great food at corresponding prices.I agree to the other feedbacks, the restaurant area itself is great, but not recommend having dinner here.
The atmosphere was very nice, but the food came very late. The service is very bad. Service staf run around here and dont know what to do. Too many guests and few service staff.
Nice atmosphere, but the service was a catastrophe, the price-performance ratio is absolutely not right. The food and the quality was not worth it at all. Very overpriced.
Absolutely worth visiting and getting off the road. Fairy tale like :) yum!
My wife and I just went here as part of our honeymoon and everything about this place was absolutely fantastic. The restaurant itself is gorgeous with tables outside right next to mills, water and Mountains. We ordered sea bass carpaccio, oysters, grilled octopus with tomatoes and potatoes and the catch of the day. For the catch of the day they bring a cart of fish right to the table, you select the fish you want to eat and they filet it table side. The food was perfect, the setting was perfect and the staff was perfect. I truly can’t say enough about this restaurant and would recommend that everyone go there!
Lowest quality service Ive experienced since coming to Montenegro. Very unfortunate, wouldnt recommend.
Extremely nice restaurant, badly prepared food !!?
We waited for 15 min to be served and only three tables had guests. The waiter has ignored us so we left the restaurant and went to another location. For the prices of the food i have expected at least decent service.
Sea food and ambient you should not miss when ih Montenegro!!!
Fantastic place! Wonderful people! Delicious kitchen!
Lovely ambiance, but the food quality does not justify the price. It is way overpriced for the experience you get.
Nice view but not the food.
Excellent dinning option for anyone that like to taste local Montenegrin food. The property of this restaurant is soo charming! This place doesnt dissapoint. Great service. The menu is simply amazing. Organic and fresh food. There is daily selection of fresh fish cooked different ways. We were a group of 6 and had the branzino baked in salt, so delicous! It was our favorite! It was packed for dinner so make sure you make a reservation. Definitely coming back!
Perfect food, staff are super
Marvelous location, cuisine could be better!
Good food, excellent service
It was very expensive, and the food was good, but the views were what made it worth the visit.
Be aware, this place does not give a fiscal check (receipt), and they charge a higher price then in menu. When I asked for a fiscal receipt, I was told that it does not ork because of electricity, which was an excuse, because the whole place is charged with electricity. Charge was some 30% more than in menu. So just be aware. You could be next...
Everything here is unique!Unique location - situated on the coast of the bay, just between the sea and the mountains, a little river running through the place and a big old mill. All this creates such a calm environment, that you can just walk around and itd be the perfect end of the night. The tables are scattered all around the place, so you never have the feeling that its crowded - just the opposite: it feels very romantic. If you come by car, you dont need to worry where to park. Its a classy restaurant with a good selection of wines, but for those who want to drink beer choices are limited. The menu is diverse and the price are just as in any other restaurant in the area of Kotor. You can order fresh trout and walk to the trout pool while waiting and see where they get it from. We ordered mussels with both wine and tomato sauce (tomato was better;), octopus and squids were mild. As in most restaurants, bread and appetizers (olive paste here) are served in the beginning, so bear that in mind as an extra meal. The deserts we chose were homemade ice-cream with diva vishna, fine and smooth cream broiler with crispy coverage and a f almond cake. The bill was 120€ including the tip.The service was just excellent! When we entered, a hostess immediately found a table for us, but it was one of the very few left free, so its best to have a reservation before coming. The waiter was very hospitable, smiley and quick, always giving a glance when passing near our table. When leaving, one of the hostesses asked us if we had a good time and have us a brochure as a memory. In the same time, all waiters were very sensible and always gave us their way and always went behind us.After dinner we walked around the place - there are nice paths with wooden or stone briges, benches with beautiful views to the sea, a private port and an awesome bar apart from the restaurant with tables all under the trees. Two small draft beers, a lemonade and an orange juice - 10€.The place is wonderful - probably the best place at Kotor to eat and spend some time.
Perfect place, for an extraordinary evening! Relentelss cleaning, delicous and well prepared food. Our server Stefan was delightfully knowledgable and attentive. The whole menu is all about fresh, organic and local. Black ink risotto and bifsteak with fig sauce was absolutely superb! Definetely recommend to anyone!
After a day of sightseeing around montenegro coast we wanted to have a nice dinner. First they asked do we have a reservation, since we hadnt they managed to find a place for us. They are pretending like everything is reserved, because the same thing happend to two more groups. Restorant had 4-5 tables with guest, bu we waited for at least 15 mins at the table, withouth anyone aplroaching us to ask us even for the drink. I wouldnt complain if this was a cheap restorant, but for a prices like that Im expecting great service. Maybe we were to casualy dressed, and looked like we are going to share one portion.Since we were super hungry and didnt wanted to wait for the food for 1+ h we went to another beautifull place caled Corovica mlini, with awesome food and service.
Excellent seafood, attentive service! Fantastic atmosphere!
The place is overall beautuful, like a farytale! The food was excellent, the service was attentive, overall atmosphere was fantastic! For anyone visiting Kotor is a must!
With its 300+ year history (originally a flour mill), this restaurant is in a truly beautiful, expansive and thoughtfully landscaped, bay-front setting. The adjoining Ljuta river (the source of power for the old mill) is still partially diverted to now flow into several interconnected stone-walled ponds (crossed by original arch bridges) filled with crystal clear water and stocked with freshwater trout. The tables are dispersed throughout the softly lit gardens - some in cozy alcoves - others on the edges of the ponds. The sound of splashing water only adds to the amazing ambiance. It wants to be and is a higher-end & sophisticated venue. We stopped in yesterday to make a dinner reservation with the most delightful hostess/manager and were kindly invited to chose what was a great table. Our waiter (a really nice Bosnian guy) was very friendly, professional and efficient. We had a glass of Prosecco and a bottle of inexpensive and tasty local Pinot Grigio that he recommended, 2 salads (Arugula & sliced octopus) that were fresh and well dressed. We were tempted to select one of the fish traditionally offered on a big tray, but instead chose veal osso buco and lamb shank. It was a mistake - both shanks had very little meat - comprising mostly (~ 80%) gelatinous fat.Like all good waiters, our guy returned after a couple of minutes to ask how we liked our meals. We explained the lack of meat and actually gave him a pretty large plate of discarded fat to show to the chef.He returned and explained that the chef (who is the owner) considered both shanks to have the usual amount of meat. The sauce and vegetables that came with the shanks were absolutely delicious.Had the primary constituent of our main meals been of better quality, the total cost (E129 - including a side of roast potatoes and 2 large bottles of water) would have been pretty reasonable all considered.So...........for a restaurant that describes itself as offering “top culinary quality”, the meat we were served was sub-standard in our judgement and we communicated that view very quickly & explicitly. The chef/owner obviously disagreed (as is his right) - but this is the primary reason why we have given the rating we have.
The restaurant is absolutely beautiful. Amazing sea views and a very warm interior. Staff seemsTo be a family - very friendly and excellent service - except for a bit of language issue. I asked about soup (is it bouillon or a thick soup) i got my answer and ordered the “thick”. I NEVER would have ordered 2 bowls because my partner DOES NOT eat soup. No reason, she just does not. When 2 bowls areived the waiter wanted to argue. Rather then argue we just took the second bowl. Food was excellent (although a too much olive oil and garlic was used . We loved the place. Unfortunately due to the pricing aet for the view we wont go back. 78 euros for one fish!! We were very hapoy to have gone once for the exper
The food is worth 3 stars, it is not bad, but not special either. I can cook at home like that and some dishes even better, but the territory and the view on the bay is unforgettable! I will come there again just to be in that atmosphere again
Mixed feelings. Loved location, small interior details, atmosphere is great. Food is also great. But we were disappointed with service: stuff wasn’t friendly, don’t recommend wine, I had to ask to recommend fish. Also they don’t have take out and paper cups.
Breathtakingly beautiful restaurant
Disgusting service and attitude towards visitors.
This place is really gorgeous, the ambiance is so romantic and picturesque, but the customer service and their business culture are absolutely awful. Me and my partner wanted to celebrate our anniversary here, but the staff didnt allow us to sit at the terrace although the restaurant was half empty, because the terrace is reserved for dining only, and they offered us a gloomy table in the corner INSIDE without even asking us if we wanted to dine there. When we told them that it was our anniversary and that we wanted to have dinner there, they still didnt want to let us sit at one of the tables outside. Something similar happened to my best friend who at the time of the visit was a tourist worker and came there with a couple who was staying at the hotel where she was working; when they got to the restaurant, the staff openly told my friend that they would appreciate if she could bring a larger group of people next time. THE BOTTOM LINE IS, IF YOU ARE GOING TO SPEND LESS THAN 200 EUROS PER NIGHT, YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE. These guys are just a bunch of money-grabbers, they ruined my special day and I will never go back to this place again.
Perfect dinner!
Delicious food with beautiful garden and perfect view. Highly recommended!
The best service and food in Montenegro.Definitely my favourite place here.
Beautiful place with bridges and watermills and a view on the mountains
Hedonic
Super service. beautiful atmosphere. I will be back. The restaurant was warm on a cold day. Not expensive for such quality
The food is way to expensive and nothing special. The waiters are not friendly and cold. The entourage is beautiful, but thats all. Please note, you also have to pay for use of the plates. Disappointing place. Look for something better first.
Great atmosphere! Great Food! Wonderful dining experience. I would definitely recommend!
Romantic and the food was spectacular
Wonderful meal of freshly caught local fish in a gorgeous traditional setting surrounded by running water in the mill races turning two ancient wheels. Our waiter described each of the fish we were served. At the end of the evening a fresh catch was brought in from the jetty and he showed us all the different fish including barracuda, bass, sea bream and some ugly looking scorpion fish. Authentic and delicious menu and local wine, a perfect summers evening
It is expensive but this restaurant and its ambience is amazing.
The food was sensational! Must order the octopus. Fresh quality ingredients, great atmosphere and service!!!
Very good fish and fish soup and the chocolate mousse (more like a soufflé) with vanilla ice cream was the perfect ending to our romantic night. The place is very nice and staff is professional.
Good but expensive
Great service, great and fresh food with a stunning view of the sea. The place to visit for best dining experience and atmosphere in Kotor, Montenegro.
Beautiful setting and wonderful, fresh food. Our waiter was really friendly and helpful. Some great local and home-made dishes. Really recommend a visit to anyone if you are in Kotor, the old flour mill set on the water is just too good to miss. And when else can you say you have enjoyed a meal next to Europes shortest river? :)
Where do I start? Usually in my experience of expensive restaurants, service is of a high standard, food also (of course) is of a high standard and the premises are up to scratch.....well, this place ticks only one of the boxes...the latter. Woeful dishes with inflated prices , influenced by the water wheel and babbling stream. You MUST try harder!!!
Never felt better. Service is on point. We were a big group of 15 people yet it felt like we had a private section. Food was great, yet the best was the August night lightning sights on the bridge across our table. Unforgettable
It’s even better then people say!!Definitely recommend!!! It’s a hidden paradise in Montenegro, so romantic & peaceful. A great place to celebrate and an amazing experience that one should not miss when visiting or even living in Montenegro.Congrats for having such a wonderful restaurant!
Beautiful setting and grounds with wonderful service from the owner and staff. We arrived before the restaurant opened but they treated us like family, gave us a tour of the beautiful ponds, bridges, and docks that make this unique restaurant accessible by car or boat. Despite the fact that they weren’t open yet, we were served coffee, olives, and a delicious cheese that they make on the premises. Thank you Anton for the tour!
Isidora and her team are great hosts. We had a wonderful time here. Food was delicious and the atmosphere absolutely indescribable. My favorite restaurant in Montenegro.
We loved it. It was such a great find. The restaurant is located on a river of an old mill that empties into the sea. There are little trails and bridges to walk around the restaurant and a swan and a duck even swam up. The wine was good, the food was good. Overall, on our day trip to Montenegro, we were happy with it.
Good
We stopped here for lunch on the way from Dubrovnik and had a delicious meal. We had our 3 children with us and they were very accommodating. The seafood was fresh and the staff was very prompt. Bonus for the beautiful grounds with small trails, streams and trout ponds to roam around.
Incredible seafood and gorgeous atmosphere. Service was brilliant. Recommend baked octopus, black risotto and fish of the day. A must do in Montenegro!
The waiter was kind even though We only ordered ice cream and coffee. I hope to have a meal in here. It was nice place.
