Monument erected to commemorate Sir Thomas Monroe living in DharmapuriFrom 1792 to 1799 he served as the Governor of Dharmapuri (Deputy Collector). The Monroe Pillar near the Vale Paul Depot is a monument to his life in Dharmapuri. From there he built a pond on the way to Muslim Street. Nearby was his house. He had set up a beautiful garden around it.From Dharmapuri, he enjoys bathing on horseback up to the Tenpennai River near Irumathur. In a letter to her father, she states that the Southern River is like the Kelvin River in England. In the mornings, it was his custom to go on horseback without security guards and talk to the farming people, knowing their grievances.Chittoor district at that time included Tirupati. Sir. Thomas Monroe was the Collector of Chittoor District. He wanted to climb Tirupati hill. He was denied admission on the grounds that he was a Christian. Nevertheless he gave land to a hundred priests who worked in Tirupati. He also provided utensils of sulfur for cooking. Thanks to this, the first anointing of the statue of Venkatachalapathy was done in the name of Thomas Monroe.
