It is an ancient Shiva temple. The site was inspected by ASI Deputy Director Salaj Tiwari in 2013. According to them, the present structure of the temple dates back to the 15th century. The idol of the temple dates back to the 11th century. There are also Mauryan carpet ring wells near the temple. According to the Anushrutis, there was a Buddhist colony here which was converted into a Hindu colony during Shankaracharyas movement in the 10th and 11th centuries.
