In the statement, they particularly hoped that the under-construction medical centre on campus is named after Liberation War martyr Dr Muhammad Murtaza.The statement comes after several newspapers reported that the medical centre will be named after one of the countrys reputed businessmen.Eleven renowned personalities today issued a statement expressing hope that the structures and installations built in the premises of Dhaka University -- on the occasion of the golden jubilee of Liberation War and centennial of DU -- be named after martyred university teachers and officials.

This medical center has been set up for the students of Dhaka University. But the medical treatment here is fragile. Their service should be better by combining illness and modernity.

The Medical Center of the University of Dhaka, near the Science Annex Building, offers free medical service and free pathological examinations to students, teachers and staff and also family members of the teachers and staffs. The centre provides service round the clock, seven days a week, with 30 doctors working in shifts. The centre has a dental unit, eye unit, X-ray department and two ambulances.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. The decision was taken at a meeting of the syndicate on May 24, 2021, chaired by Akhtaruzzaman.On December 14, 1971, Pakistani forces and their allied members of Al-Badr, like many intellectuals in the country, Murtaza was also picked up from the universitys Fuller Road residence and killed.There is an established tradition of naming various buildings or installations of Dhaka University after martyred intellectuals, teachers and officials. In its continuation, the name of Dhaka University Medical Center is ‘Shaheed Dr. Mohammad Murtaza Medical Center.
