Guru Nanak Dev (April 15, 1469 - September 22, 1539) was the proponent of Sikhism and the first Guru His birthday is celebrated on the full moon day of Kartik every year. He traveled to many places to spread the doctrine of one God among the people. He was able to introduce a unique religious, social and political system based on equality, brotherhood and morality. In Sikhism, it is believed that the divine power, religious authority and holiness of Guru Nanak flowed among the later Sikh gurus. All activities are closed in case of Corona epidemic.

Gurudwara Nanakshahi in Dhaka is a Sikh shrine located in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. It is located next to the Kala Bhaban on the Dhaka University campus. This Gurudwara is the largest of the nine to ten Gurudwaras located in Bangladesh. The present entrance of the high-walled Gurudwara Nanakshahi is on the south side. There is a nice green lawn in front of the temple. To its left is the Sikh Research Center, and to its right is the two-story Durbar Hall. Featuring flagpoles at the front, the shrine is built in the Sikhs own style of architecture. An earth-shaped structure is built on top of the shrine. It is surrounded by Sikh religious symbols. Students are at the top of the shrine. It is a symbol of Sikh worship.Gurudwara Nanakshahi has a large room right in the middle. There are four doors around this room. On the wooden altar in the middle is the Sikh scripture Granthasaheb. It is called Shri Darbar Sahib. In front of the altar, a pair of clogs used by the ninth Sikh Guru Tegh Bahadur Singh is carefully placed in a glass box. The floor of this room has red carpet leaves. The devotees sit and listen to the text. There is a veranda around the room.

Gurdwara Shri Nanak Shahi Dhaka is a historic Gurdwara located at a place where Guru Nanak Dev ji stayed ( 1506-1507 ) as also Guru Tegh Bhadur ji who had a sojourn of two years in Dhaka during his travels to the east .It was built , in 1830 , during the reign of Maharajah Ranjit Singh in the Punjab .It is said that while he resided here the news of the birth of his son , Gobind Rai , was communicated to the Guru sahib .The place was under Sujatpur Mauza (Dhaka University area). He established a `Manji over there, which was later, renamed Gurdwara Nanakshahi. Among nothing in Dhaka to visit stands this Gurudwara which I was very happy to visit ...it took me 1 hour to travel two kilometres, to reach this Gurudwara it takes 1 hour for each side because of traffic ....the Gurudwara is in the middle of the main road but luckily they did let us take our car inside the compound so it could be parked and I could get out of it easily ..there were not many people around I did the divine Darshan and bhai sabji came to ask if I would like to have some langar I had some nice pulao and Prasad.... Gurudwara is on the same level but to enter inside there is one big step but it can be managed by lifting up the chair by the helpers around....inside it is not very spacious ....overall it is a nice cute little Gurdwara with quite a lot of space in the outer area

The history says that Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikh religion, stayed for a short time in the 16th century, where this Gurdwara is located in Dhaka. During this period, he taught the monotheism and brotherhood of Sikh religion, and taught to observe the rituals of religion. A Sikh religious preacher named Bhainath during the six-year old Guru Hargobind Singhs period 1595 to 1644, started working on the construction of Gurdwara in this place. According to some, the construction of Gurdwara was started during the time of 9th Sikh Guru Tegh Bahadur Singh (1621-1675). In 1830, its construction was completed. Later, due to lack of maintenance it was found to be fragmentation. After the independence of Bangladesh, some of the renovations in the building of Gurdwara were started in 1972 Its extensive reform was done in 1988-89.
