This place was once famous for original Bangladeshi hand made banarasi sarees, people came here to see how it’s made and then buy. But at present, it’s been highly commercialized. Most of the shops offer Indian banarasi or Katan rather the Desi ones for which it was originally intended to. As the shops are mostly air conditioned and heavily furnished, the price goes proportionately high. I personally think, anyone can have better deals from other low end shops for the same quality. It is hyped for tradition but the traditional element itself is not present anymore.
