Guptkashi is a town located in the Kedar-khanda, in Garhwal, Rudraprayag district in Uttrakhand, India. Guptkashi is the place where ancient Vishwanath Temple dedicated to the god Shiva, which is similar to the one in Varanasi is located. The other well known temple here is dedicated to Ardhanareshvara, a half man half woman form of Shiva and Parvati. The name Guptakashi has legendary significance linked to the Pandavas, the heroes of the Hindu epic Mahabharata. Its religious importance is considered next to that of Varanasi, believed to be the most pious of all Hindu pilgrimage places. The temple town is located on the way to the Kedarnath, one of the Chota Char Dhams and Panch Kedars. It has the scenic backdrop of the snow-covered peaks of Chaukhamba and enjoys a salubrious weather throughout the year.

On the way from BARKOT to GOGOTRI, we visit the holy place of PROKETSWAR GUHA, BISWANATH TEMPLE and it full our heart with great blessed and happiness. Awaiting for next Tirtha GONGOYRI, KEDARNATH AND BADRINATHJI.

It is a good place.. Not too developed but you will get a good environment and meet good people here and the most important thing you will get here is peace!

Guptakashi temple is located at an elevation of 4,300 ft in the Garhwal Himalayas, 45 km north of Rudraprayag, Uttrakhand. The temple is ancient; said to be existing from the times of Dwaparayuga (5000+ years).Built centuries ago in stone and wood, the architectural style is akin to temples in the region (such as Kedarnath). Guptakashi has the scenic backdrop of the snow-covered peaks of Chaukhamba and lush green forests of Mandakini valley.The Manikarnika Kund (pond) in front of the temple has two perennial springs, representing rivers Bhagirathi (Ganges) and Yamuna.Guptakashi precinct emanates a distinctive vibe!

Its really an old temple which has a link with kedharnath temple. The only light thing here is the pandiths suck more money as part of different rituals. Other than that this is a must visit place if you are in gupthakashi.

Here you go for biometric registration and your journey to Kedarnath starts either by helipad if you have tickets booked otherwise on foot . You can get transport facilities upto Gaurikund. Then you have horses , khacchars and men-carrying basket to go ahead.

Whenever I see Guptkashi, I will miss my hospitality.

Guptkashi was named Guptkashi because this Shiva God was incognito. There is a Vishwanath temple, which is a Shiva temple. This place is quite good due to Guptkashi tourism. Rooms of every type are found here in time. Guptkashi was a small town earlier. Now a lot of houses have been built here. Almost all facilities are available here. School is full of facts here. 5 here is high school. Little health facilities are lacking. Vidya Dham is also a very good ashram here. Where you can go for darshan.
