Dont visit this place with too much hype, there is a place where river originates and there are few deers apart from that there is nothing inside.Forest department could have developed this place to make it a small zoo or they could simply plant rare species of plants and trees to gain tourist attraction.Beware of monkey especially, if you park your two wheeler outside monkeys will tear the seat covers.

Namada Chilume and Devarayanadurga Hills are the 2 wonderful places to visit near Tumakuru City. A day out in these two places are really wonderful. Namada Chilume has many deers in the park. The greenery around the area is so good to see and enjoy with your family and friends. Drinking water and toilet facility needs to be setup. Overall a best place to visit on any weekend. You can see a lot of birds as well. The greenery is very nice and the weather is cool there. Easily accessible via road from Tumakuru. Its better to go by your own vehicle because the govt bus facility is not there at our convenient time.

Namada Chilume (pronounced naamada chilume in Kannada) is a natural spring situated by Devarayanadurga, near Tumkur in the state of Karnataka in India. The spring issues from the surface of the rock. It is believed that Rama, along with Sita and Lakshmana, stayed here during their exile in the forest. Rama searched for water to apply tilaka to his forehead. When he could not find any water, he shot an arrow at the rock. The arrow penetrated the rock, made a hole, and the water came out. Henceforth, this place was called Namada Chilume, meaning Spring of Tilak. (naama = tilak and chilume = spring, in Kannada) As shown in the picture, the water comes out from a small hole throughout the year and never dries up. The water that comes out is considered as sacred water (tirtha). It is approximately 14 km from Tumkur and 80 km from Bengaluru.

Namada chilume is one of the wonders of nature. It is small spring of cold water oozing out of a rock throughout the year. Though the region is dry and scrubby and the weather is hot, water in this spring never gets dried. Origin of the spring is connected to Ramayana. The story goes like this.... Rama, Lakshman and Seeta stayed in this place for sometime during their exile (vanvaas). One morning Rama was searching for water to put on Tilaka (a mark worn on forehead). He couldnt find any. So he struck an arrow into a rock and made a hole through which water started oozing. Rama used this water to wear Tilaka.Today this place is enclosed and protected by Karnataka forest department. The enclosure has a deer park.

Namada Chilume is the place also known as when Shree Ram with brother Laxman and wife Sita was sent to Vanvas they have visited at this place and stayed at this location one day when Shri Ram want to apply vibhuti on his forehead he did not found water all around the forest. so finally he used his bow and arrow, he strikes on the rocks to get the water. This place is blessed with the water permanently, where you can still find the water and the strike rock at the same place. Next to it where Shri Ram have build a house to stay over and take a rest on the rocks during the summer time. This place is also known as where Ramas brother Laxmana choped the Surpankha (Ravanas Sister) beautiful nose. And Ravanas mama marij came in the form of deer and strike to death on the hands of Rama.

Nice place with only so many deers and monkeys to see, that to from far place. We cannot go near to them as the place is entirely fenced. CNamada Chilume Name came from lord Sri Rama. Its a long flashback while they were in vanavasa. Complete info regarding this place is carved on a stone near the water hole area. Water flows continuously non stop 24/7 from under grill ground from the huge rocks in its purest form. It is suitable it drink also. Many including me took it as theertha and consumed it.Entry fees for adults is ₹10/- per head, for children below 3 years of age, it is ₹5/- per head. Its a one time visit place. Myth is Rama wanted to apply tilak, and was hence searching water. When he didn’t find any, he shot his arrow, the arrow stuck the rock, water started flowing from it, which still flows.Hence “namada (tilak) chilume(Water glow)There’s a nice trail that takes you from the main gate to the spot. There is also a deer park. One good thing here is the Drinking Water facility. It is situated at the enterance gate.PS: Please stop putting coins in the hole. And stop drinking water from the water collection pit next to it, the monkeys drink from there.
