Beautiful station. Heart of Deolali. Clean, safe, very nice people and has many trans stoping at Deolali. Well maintain railway station.Deolali, is a small hill station and a census town in Nashik district, Maharashtra. It has the residential Barnes School. It is also a town with various health sanatoriums and temples, including the Muktidham temple at Nashik Road. The town is also famous for Buddhist caves, popularly known as Pandavleni Caves. The towns neighboring village of Bhagur is famous for being the birthplace of nationalist Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, a revolutionary leader and founder of Abhinav Bharat Society and the Free India Society. The golf course, inside the Deolali Cantonment, was one of the largest in India at the time of its development by the British.

Railway station between Lahavit and Nasik Road on Mumbai-Manmad route on Central Railways. Set amongst the Sahyadri Hills, this is a popular weekend getaway and health camp. Deolali has long been an important army base with one of the oldest Indian military centers in the country, started the Air Force Station, the School of Artillery of the Indian Army, and other establishments in this region. The town is also famous for Buddhist caves, popularly known as Pandavleni Caves. The golf course, inside the Deolali Cantonment, was one of the largest in India at the time of its development by the British. Deolali has plenty of temples, picnic spots, vast tracts of untouched greenery and an atmosphere that is perfect for those looking for some peace and quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of bigger cities. This class I Cantonment, originally a British Military Camp was constructed in 1869 as a main depot for the arrival & departure of troops and families from England to India and vice versa and used Mumbai as a port for disembarkation & embarkation, in order to keep the Mumbai port decongested. “Deolali Gaon” which enjoyed a salubrious climate throughout the year was selected as a “rest camp” as it was 200 km away but in close proximity to Mumbai. Situated on the banks of river Darna at a height of 2000 ft & surrounded by the Sahyadri & Trimbak ranges, “Devlali” came into prominence during the world wars when a large number of Indian and British troops moved in and out from the HBTD (Homeward Bound Trooping Depot) which was located here. This was also one of the stations where extensive training for “Chindit Operations” (Burma 1945) was carried out. The name “Devlali” is a derivation from the Marathis words “Devlala” (temples) and “Ali” (come) literally meaning “temples have come.” Pilgrims visiting Nasik first sighted the temples from here. The name is also the source of the British slang noun “Doolali Tap” loosely meaning “camp fever” referring to the apparent madness of men waiting for ships back to ‘Blighty’ (a slang derived from the urdu “Vilayat” referring to England) after finishing their tour duty in the “Raj.” Deolali station on the Great Indian Peninsula Railway (G.I.P.) Mumbai main line came up in 1878. Earlier in 1872, “Nasik Road” station was named as “Deolali” and “Bhagur Siding” was the “rest camp siding.” Leading to a lot of confusion and difficulties for troops arriving from Mumbai in reaching the rest camp compelled the railways to rename the stations as “Nasik Road” and “Deolali Barrack Station” and subsequently to “Devlali,” when the present station was completed. The railway station showcases a rare and antique railway clock of 1878 vintage designed by M/s John Walker of England which still keeps accurate time. The School of Artillery was earlier located in Kakul (Pakistan). However, in the mid-thirties, as new guns with higher ranges were being inducted into service the Kakul ranges were found to be woefully inadequate being small, mountainous and suitable only for mountain guns. It was finally decided to shift the school to its present location here at Deolali in 1940. This heritage station is more popularly recognised as the alma mater of Gunners. It is a dream destination for all ranks of this fraternity (including those from friendly foreign countries) who look forward to visit the school time and again, either as course students or as instructors to further hone their “professional competence & gunnery skills.” Amongst the oldest buildings are the erstwhile School Headquarters (earlier Station Hospital), the officers’ mess popularly known as the “Heritage Mess” and the “Flag Staff House” all of 1872-73 vintage. Devlali Camp also prominently figures in a setting for the popular BBC sitcom produced in 1972, “It ain’t half hot Mum.” Set in 1945, it showcases the misadventures of a British “entertainment troupe” stationed in the Devlali Arty Depot Rest Camp, as it was earlier known.
A very clean railway station with an old world Raj era charm. It is probably so because the Deolali town has military connections from the time when Britain ruled India. One can find a quaint mix of military precision and cleanliness with the Indian Railway’s modern facilities. A very lovely experience for the commuters.
Devlali railway station . A good railway station with water, eating, sitting, toilet facilities are there. There are platforms at this busy railway stations. Neat, clean and tidy surroundings. Enough number of foot over bridges. Drinking water, food courts, wheel chair facilities, perfect security. Parking facility also available..
Being a Cantonment station was fairly clean. Only some grass cutting is required, which I presume will be done after the rains.Also. the station approach road needs redoing.
Neat, clean platforms. A quiet place for senior citizens who want to while away their time.
