Very little remains of this late Mughal period inn except two gates that must have stood at its either end and the foundations of the surrounding cells. The area between the gates must have originally contained a village but this was cleared in the early 20th century for conservation purposes. Most of the remaining structures inside are conserved by the Archaeological Survey of India. It is known that the Alipur Road once passed through Badali Sarai and it was used as a convenient resting place for travelers entering the capital from the north-west.

✖️BADLI KI SARAI✖️Situated on the G.T. Road near Adarsh nagar metro station badli ki sarai was a staging post once where travellers from the capital proceeding towards north of India used to rest. This sarai was Built by the emperor shah jahan in 1650. The sarai witnessed the first independence war of 1857 and it was held by the indian troops, but eventually, indian sepoys were over-powered by the british. Now this monument lies in a state of near ruin.

The Monument Trail - Badli Ki SaraiBefore the arrival of modern age, one of the most tedious of human activity was travelling; which used to happen for most of the people on foot or if you are a person of wealth you might have an entire retinue containing different animals like Oxen, Horses, Elephant, Camel and off course one or more teams of Palki Bearers, Porters and animal keepers.Since the transportation was not as fast as it is now, people would only complete a few mile before having to halt for a night stay. For this purpose there were sarais built either by royal order or by the help of individual charitable funds. These Sarai were not just the structures made of Stone and Mortar, but they were living institutions. There would have been armed guards to ensure the security from bandits and thugs.Almost all the Sarais had proper arrangements of Drinking Water and Food for both Animals and Human. Some of the Sarais were providing direct and Indirect employments to the providers of different services. Like Barber, Mochi (Shoe makers), Nalbands (Horse Shoo maker) and Malishwalahs. The Royal postal services known as Dak would also have their representative in some of the SaraisGT Road as it is called was the primary highway and the backbone of mughal trading. Thus the entire length of highway has many Sarais. Badli ki Sarai which is now known as Sarai Pipal Thala after the village of same name was one of the most prominent sarai situated on a very prominent Delhi Lahore route. It was still several killometers outside the city walls and would have taken considerable time from here to reach the Lahori Gate of Walled .
