A beautiful and historical place made by British officers in year 1828 as a signal tower initially it was used to give signals to the English peoples lived here but in May 1857 it was captured by freedom fighters when they siezed entire Delhi .After about one month British Indian army came here to rescue the british peoples on 7 June and killed many peoples .Now this place is standing lonely .

On ridge near The Delhi University ,we have this British era building which was originally said to be a Signal Tower.Located at a high point on ridge ,it was located near early British Cantonment .Gothic style architecture with half hearted castellated parapets makes it an interesting little monument .Today this tower stands hidden in the Keeker forest due British era afforestation drives which led to this non indigenous plant encroaching the entire ridge .Flagstaff Tower today attracts alot of Yoga enthusiasts and elderly who want some rest after long morning and evening walk .Whatever was the purpose of this Tower in the past ,it gives cultural character to this place these days .

Before forestation started in 1910, the area where the tower was built was the highest point on the ridge and was mostly barren, covered with low-lying shrub. Today it is a memorial and protected monument underArchaeological Survey of India.HistoryFlagstaff Tower played an important role during the Indian Rebellion of 1857, when Delhi was captured by the rebellious East India Company forces. On the morning of 11 May 1857, when the sepoys started hunting for and killing European personnel and Christian Indians in the Cantonment, Civil Linesand the walled city of Delhi, the survivors started fleeing towards the Tower.A month later the Company army returned to capture Delhi, which was now with the sepoys. On 7 June, they faced stiff resistance from the sepoys at the Flagstaff Tower. A fierce battle followed which led to the killing and wounding of a great number of soldiers. However, by five in the evening the ridge had been recaptured and was now under British control.

Built originally by the East India Company for signalling purposes, this tower played a crucial role during the revolt of 1857, when many British civilians chose to barricade themselves within to protect themselves from the sepoys. Now it is situated in the middle of an urban park and access is restricted to the building.

Nice place for daily morning/evening Exercise in the lap of nature in fresh air.

Good place to kill your time. Choice of walk or sit. Be with nature and monkeys! No need to be scared of monkeys, as theyre used to human beings 😉

Beautiful place

Britishers took refuge here with their families when they were afraid of being murdered by some of the First Freedom Fighters of India during the 1857 Revolt. The building should be maintained well. Nothing much of a thing to appreciate.

Worth visiting with friends in the morning as this park provides soothing breeze in the Delhi Summer. Typically a lovers point but great for walks and exercising.

Neat and clean place, nice surroundings, historical importance, must visit for all tourists in Delhi, beware of monkeys in the area, suggest keep a stick with you, lot of trees in the area so place is quite cool, there are other historical importance places nearby, need 3 hours to visit the full area, parking is a problem, suggest take public transport

If you are history buffer as well as nature lover than must visit it. Arravali hill tract along with remnants of 1857 revolt memoirs. Nearest metro is vishwavidyala on yellow line and from there you can auto rickshaw. But be cautious of rhesus moneys. Most favourable season to visit here is winter season. You can visit with your partner here, there are many places where nobody will disturb you. Enjoy😂

Its a historical monument of 18th century in the middle of a park. Cyclists and runners are allowed. Not a place of recreation.
