Where does one start. Ill have to say it was not a Luxury experience that I was lead to believe. On the website it states Palace on Wheels, the epitome of luxury and comfort, beckons you to travel back in time to the era of raja & maharajas. A feather in the cap of Rajasthan, Palace on Wheels is one of the most luxurious trains in the world. Reflecting the rich cultural heritage of Rajasthan, the train offers a heritage tour high on luxury. The concept sounds great, but the execution was not delivered. The word luxury is used a lot but it was not present during the trip.Such things as:• When cleaning off a table that has been used, one does not use a napkin to remove crumbs from the table onto the floor and the seats. Proper way is to use a crumb sweeper to clean tabletops.• Also noticed that some of the table napkins that were previously used was placed back on the table to get another use out of it.• The menus that were on the table had food spatter on it. Might be the same menus from the first tour of the season.• The windows in the dinning cars also had food spatter and never cleaned.• If one was to look at the food presentation and service, it wasnt up to luxury standards not even close. The serving staff would come out with one platter at a time and serve one item at a time. Meaning at the end you couldnt enjoy your whole meal as a whole. If you did wait for all your food the meal would be cold by the time you start to eat. Simply solution, one server holds a large platter and the other server dishes out the food.• The best meals, in all aspect such as venue, presentation and food quality were the ones that were off site. The lunches on Day 2, 4, 6, 7 and the dinner on Day 5.• As for the state of the cabins, again attention to detail is very important when it comes with the word luxury. The linen on the bed comforter was stain and never changed the during the whole stay on the train. The towels in the washroom were also stained.• The back side of the door of the washroom had at least months of previous travelers dirty finger prints on it. Again going back to attention to detail and cleanliness.• As for the staff on board, take some pride in your uniform presentation. I understand they work hard but they must make sure there uniform is clean and stain free. On many occasions I noticed that the white gloves that they were wearing was very dirty. Not acceptable, anytime of the day.• It would seem that the train was never cleaned properly after each tour. Theres no excuse for this as the train enters the station early on the Wednesday and passenger are required to checkout by 07:30am and not till 4:00pm to check in.• The constant store visits after sight seeing was a little much, time better spent relaxing on the train prior to dinner.• A couple times a few of us had enough of the stores and the tour manager Genesh made arrangement for the Red Badge Traveler Private Car to take us back to the train. Under no circumstances should their vehicle been used as they had there personal belongs in the vehicle. I know I wouldnt of been happy if I was a Red Badge Traveler, those are the ones that pay a little more to be driven around.• As for the Tour Manager Genesh, I was not happy when I noticed him trying to take photos of me and no one else. I comforted him and he told me he needed the photo for my file back at the office and didnt give me a valid reason. I challenge him by saying why your not taking photos of others. He stubble with that response. One more thing the photos that you have online of the bar area on train is different from what is on the train.I can honestly say that I would not recommend Palace on Wheels to anyone.
