Gorakabar translates to white mans graveyard .Gora(Indian slang for Birtishers) and Kabar(Urdu word graveyard).Though this is a place for the dead to rest,it is also a significantly important historical place.This place houses graves which are from pre independence era.And a lot of eminent ones worth mentioning are.GopaBandhu Das- leading Odiya revolutionary and visionary.Dr.William D. Stewart- Founder of Stewart School Cuttak estb.1882.sadly,the government is not taking a si gle step towards the upkeep of this graveyard.This graveyard is also shared by the Muslim community which has a settlement nearby.The local have encroached it on certain sides and the authorities are quiet on it.I do visit it once in a while to find solace.Some of the graves here have some beautiful poetry and architecture.
