Amazing Indian restaurant and takeaway. Phone lines open from 5.30pm to take orders as they start cooking at 6pm & orders can be submitted the day before. Everyone knows how delicious the food is so when its busy it can be a bit difficult to get through on the phone sometimes.Been going as a family for over 30yrs here - changed ownership a few times within the family and outside as well but food still delicious so they keep getting it right! Best Indian Ive ever had travelling in lots of cities through the UK...just lucky its in the home town.

Pulling up in the taxi, I thought oh no, the outside looks quite unkempt. On entry it wasnt the greatest restaurant to say the least.The staff were very welcoming, and service was good. But the food was absolutely excellent, and I have to one of the best I have ever tasted. Looks can be deceiving.

Had a takeaway. Collected. One of the best Indians Ive had!! If I lived closer, would definitely be my regular!

This is by far the best curry place for miles. We regularly order from them and are never disappointed, brilliant food & a great delivery service.Tonight we ordered and when it arrived the containers had split and gone over almost all of the food. We called Kashmir and within 25 minutes we had another brand new set of everything wed ordered, no quibbles, no charges, just an apology for the inconvenience.Would highly recommended them if youre looking for a fab curry at a great price from a lovely local business. How wonderful the staff are, very welcoming and patient. The food is sublime, spicy, fresh and piping hot...not that they needed any more heat. Thank you all at Kashmir.

Nice curry house, but on a cross roads in a village, so doesnt look appealing from the outside. Decent food, but standard Indian restaurant cuisine. If I was local, I would definitely visit again.

Update - Kashmir have got in touch and been genuinely concerned with my issues and looked to rectify them. I received nice friendly communication and it would seem they are normally attentive and nice. I will be going back and looking forward to a lovely dining experience.First and last visit. Inside and decor basic. Staff unfortunately miserable and not very polite, not at all welcoming or friendly so would not return. Food ok but over all very disappointing.

Excellent food, my husbands favourite restaurant to the point of insisting guests try it. The staff are happy and polite and it is obvious to anyone who eats there that their aim is for their customers to have the best time. They achieve this aim as far as I am concerned. Can I urge Charlotte to please check she is reviewing the right restaurant. I didnt relate anything she said to the Kashmir we love.

Had a great meal in kashmir with two friends. The food was tasty without being too over powering. I found the staff to be extremely friendly with the right level of attentiveness. Yes, I would definitely come here again.

This is a small but enjoyable Indian. Food is good and portions are generous. They are very willing to adjust the heat of the curry for you, just ask!

This is the best Indian restaurant in Christchurch, we have tried them all and The Kashmir is the one we always return to. Excellent service, great food and nice atmosphere.

I have visited The Kashmir ,on and off, for 22 years ( as have my whole family )......today( Sunday) I was left bewildered.....I went in to book a table for the following Friday for a family birthday celebration. I said I thought 10 people would attend.....the waiter said there was a deposit of £5....I was surprised by such a small deposit ( although I have often been there in a group I have never paid a deposit there before ) and went back to my car to get the money and actually offered the gentleman £10 ( thinking £5 was too small if they insisted on a deposit).By this time the taller gentleman ( who I now know is the manager and Mr Miahs grandson) had arrived. I was informed that the deposit would actually be £50 and not £5 ( the smaller waiter ,who struggled a little with his English, must have originally meant £5 per head ) ...I didnt have £50 on me so, after some confusion, I used my credit card to pay. I asked if there was any sparklers or whatever for a birthday...the Manager said No. He asked me for my phone number but by then I felt quite nervous and couldnt remember my own home number ....I gave him my mobile number...I said, meaning to be friendly and helpful, that I would phone on the day to verify the exact number of people coming....his response was that I would forfeit £5 for each attendee less than ten. By then I felt confused by the whole business and upset by the generally strange and unwelcoming attitude so I asked for my deposit back, which they chose to give me in cash, and left.....quite bewildered that something so complicated had resulted in simply trying to book a table. It was 5.30 pm and before the restaurant was open for food and as it was cold outside I was wearing a winter hat...could this have been why I was treated with such suspicion ??? Sad :(I feel that the rules regarding the deposit for bookings should be carefully explained correctly ( I was told £5 not £5 per head ) and not the chaotic mish-mash that I encountered....maybe a sign making it clear....I now see that there is a warning on this site but even that is a bit vague. Customers should be treated as well-meaning contributors to the business and not with suspicion. The rules are the rules but they should be clear.Alexandra Thrift.

Normally would be 5star for my favourite local Indian restaurant but tonight our take out delivery was a big disappointment. The food was spoilt by arriving stone cold and me having to reheat in the microwave. It was also delivered a lot later than the estimated time , we even had to call to find out where our order was after 1 be of waiting. I complained by email and had a very poor response almost insinuating I was making my comments up. Very poor customer service and such a shame I will now spend my money elsewhere.

We tried to get in here on saturady but left it a little late to book, so we visited on Sunday instead and i am so glad we did. A summary would be great food, great service and very good value. The waiters are polite and prompt, and the menu has a good number of special dishes which i always tend to go for. We had a balti chicken which had a nice thick gravey and was nicely flavoured and a super Keralan inspired prawn river boat curry which had a good depth of flavour, although i did ask to heat mine up a little more when i ordered as i do prefer a my curry a little spicier.Overall, a good food night and we will most definatly be back for more.

Excellent food

I was absolutely craving Indian food so I decided Id finally give Kashmir a go. I noticed that it was an extremely cramped/tiny room with about 7 tables. None the less we sat down at the table we booked- but that was only where the nightmare began.As soon as we entered we ordered Papadoms-my favourite! I questioned the first waiter of what he would recommend but he seemed worried and spoke in some other language and it was clear that he spoke no English. After 20 minutes had passed they finally arrived but slightly damp and not crispy like they should be. During the 20 minutes of waiting people who where expecting take away queued through the tiny gap in the middle leaving no space for your personal bubble. In fact a small kid was able to stand on my dress- thats how close the queue was to me. After, we ordered some curry which couldnt even be compared to the delicious food in the chutney corner; it was frankly disgusting. I decide to call it quits for desert and waited a whopping 25 minutes for a rude ill mannered waiter to appear. He was very tall and darker skinned but extremely rude. I politely asked for the bill and told him that Id seen something running across the floor with a pink tail and a furry brown body (appearance of a mouse much) while he screamed down my throat that they had no mouse- yes I know it should say mice but he was illiterate- and that he would increase the bill if I dared to utter anymore crap (in more explicit terms) about their restaurant. Astounded at this behaviour, I paid my bill and left around the side to go to my car. I realised that there were two massive bins and surprise surprise there where two more mice underneath the big blue bin feasting of what looked to be meal scraps.In total I wasted a large sum of money and time to visit the chaotic Kashmir and I wouldnt even rate it worthy of one star. Do your self a favour and avoid the hassle of visiting. I do not recommend this so called restaurant to any person including people with children as it is not a child nor adult friendly environment. Im completely baffled of why a such disgusting place would still be open.

Top notch food every time

Supposedly a authentic Asian cuisine, but in all honesty the food is not eatable by Asian ethnicity no taste! No flavours! the food was terrible, with no exagaration travelled from London to enjoy some food with 6 of my friends. They were disappointed and we all woke up the next day literally with a bad stomach!! Very disappointed! And the manager Didnt even come out from the back after serving us as he probably knew we wernt happy.My first review on a restaurant Ive ever wrote, had to make time and effort, as I was totally disappointed.Frozen starters, and lied to us saying it was fresh too!! Tikka was rubber basically. Thats just the starters!But hey thank you for the wifi only thing that came out good from that experience tbh.

Very small restaurant, staff seated us at a table but asked you to move just after our poppadoms as that table was booked. For me the real downside about the place is the take away side was people stood around in the middle of the already cosy place. The staff were friendly, albeit not working together. In fact it would of been alright if we had just one waiter, but each did a bit, then another tried doing it again. The starter was really nice, great tasting food (tikka & sheek kabab), let down by the waiter leaning across my partners food to collect the side plates. The food was amazing...And nearly made up for any short comings.

This is a reply to Charlotte Weeks .. who recently wrote a review on the kashmir indian restaurant.Your review was not only full of racial insults towards my staff but also incorrect. All the front of house staff speak English fluently and are most definitely not illiterate, a word which you should look up the definition of.Like most food establishments we have a contract with prokill to make sure that we dont have a pest problem which im happy to show you their last inspection report This is a small family business that has been running for 31 years, we are often praised on our excellent food and friendly staff.

I dont know what charlotte weeks is going on about but i had indian from kashmir yesterday and the food was great(even the poppadoms).the service is great and being a small restaurant,i didnt feel rushed,that i had to hurryup so the next customer can come in..the staff are polite and they speak fluent english.i have been using kashmir for the last 15 years and by far the best indian in christchurchget down to kashmir,you wont be dissapointed
