Today, this section of wall is open to visitors. A nice place with Beauty. There are three methods of ascent and four methods of descent to choose from. Besides utilizing 4000+ steps, visitors may also choose between a two-rider chairlift or four-rider gondola lift up from the foothills to the level of the wall, which runs along the ridges above. It is a very nice place These lifts may also be used to descend. Another feature of the wall at Mutianyu is an alternate method of descent by single-rider personal wheeled toboggan. This allows single riders to descend from the wall to the valley on a winding metal track.

The Great Wall is one of the seven wonders of the world. It runs in sections over a very long distance across China. The wall is also referred to as ‘Long Wall’ as it is over 21,196 km/13,171 miles long. It was built with stones, bricks and tiles, earth as well as of wooden material. The wall was completed in 1644, but it took more than 2,000 years to build. There are more than 20,000 watchtowers along the wall as it was built to protect the country against invasions from nomads and enemies and to make it easier to collect duty for goods that were transported along the Silk Road.Today the wall is the most popular tourist attraction in China with more than 10 million visitors per year. Contrary to popular belief the Great Wall cannot be seen from the moon!

The Great Wall of China, a global tourist hotspot, is known across the world for its uniqueness, great length, and historical value. It is also considered to be one of the seven wonders of the world. The Great Wall of China is associated with thousands of years of Chinese history.A series of walls were initially built by Chinese empires and states over a period of many years, beginning as early as the 7th century BCE. Over 20 dynasties/states contributed to the building of the wall. These walls were then joined together to result in the Great Wall of China. It was not just a wall but a kind of fortification with watchtowers, beacon towers, trenches, etc., built at intervals as protection from enemy forces. The official length of the Great Wall of China is 21,196.18 km (13,170.7 mi). However, nearly one-third of the Great Wall has disappeared over time. UNESCO inscribed the site as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1987.

Great Wall of China, Chinese (Pinyin) Wanli Changcheng or (Wade-Giles romanization) Wan-li Ch’ang-ch’eng (“10,000-Li Long Wall”), extensive bulwark erected in ancient China, one of the largest building-construction projects ever undertaken. The Great Wall actually consists of numerous walls—many of them parallel to each other—built over some two millennia across northern China and southern Mongolia. The most extensive and best-preserved version of the wall dates from the Ming dynasty (1368–1644) and runs for some 5,500 miles (8,850 km) east to west from Mount Hu near Dandong, southeastern Liaoning province, to Jiayu Pass west of Jiuquan, northwestern Gansu province. This wall often traces the crestlines of hills and mountains as it snakes across the Chinese countryside, and about one-fourth of its length consists solely of natural barriers such as rivers and mountain ridges. Nearly all of the rest (about 70 percent of the total length) is actual constructed wall, with the small remaining stretches constituting ditches or moats. Although lengthy sections of the wall are now in ruins or have disappeared completely, it is still one of the more remarkable structures on Earth. The Great Wall was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1987.

Although named the wall, it is an integrated defense system including not only lofty and solid walls, but also massive signal towers, barriers, barracks, garrison stations, and fortresses along the walls, together forming an insurmountable line, for thousands of years, to protect the territories of ancient Chinese states against the nomadic tribes from the northern steppe. This long wall, just like a gigantic dragon, winds up and down across deserts, grasslands, mountains and plateaus, stretching approximately 21,196 kilometers from west to east of China.

The history of the Great Wall of China began when fortifications built by various states during the Spring and Autumn (771–476 BC)[1]nd Warring States periods (475–221 BC) were connected by the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang, to protect his newly founded Qin dynasty (221–206 BC) against incursions by nomads from Inner Asia. The walls were built of rammed earth, constructed using forced labour, and by 212 BC ran from Gansu to the coast of southern Manchuria.Course of the Wall throughout historyLater dynasties adopted different policies towards northern frontier defense. The Han (202 BC – 220 AD), the Northern Qi (550–574), the Jurchen Jin (1115-1234), and particularly the Ming (1369–1644) were among those that rebuilt, re-manned, and expanded the Walls, although they rarely followed Qins routes. The Han extended the fortifications furthest to the west, the Qi built about 1,600 kilometres (990 mi) of new walls, while the Sui mobilised over a million men in their wall-building efforts. Conversely, the Tang (618–907), the Song (960–1279), the Yuan (1271–1368), and the Qing (1644–1911) mostly did not build frontier walls, instead opting for other solutions to the Inner Asian threat like military campaigning and diplomacy.Although a useful deterrent against raids, at several points throughout its history the Great Wall failed to stop enemies, including in 1644 when the Manchu Qing marched through the gates of Shanhai Pass and replaced the most ardent of the wall-building dynasties, the Ming, as rulers of China. The Great Wall of China visible today largely dates from the Ming dynasty, as they rebuilt much of the wall in stone and brick, often extending its line through challenging terrain. Some sections remain in relatively good condition or have been renovated, while others have been damaged or destroyed for ideological reasons deconstructed for their building materials,or lost due to the ravages of time. For long an object of fascination for foreigners, the wall is now a revered national symbol and a popular tourist destination.

The Great Wall of China (traditional Chinese: 萬里長城; simplified Chinese: 万里长城; pinyin: Wànlǐ Chángchéng) is a series of fortifications that were built across the historical northern borders of ancient Chinese states and Imperial China as protection against various nomadic groups from the Eurasian Steppe. Several walls were built from as early as the 7th century BC,[2] with selective stretches later joined together by Qin Shi Huang (220–206 BC), the first emperor of China. Little of the Qin wall remains.[3] Later on, many successive dynasties have built and maintained multiple stretches of border walls. The most well-known sections of the wall were built by the Ming dynasty (1368–1644).Apart from defense, other purposes of the Great Wall have included border controls, allowing the imposition of duties on goods transported along the Silk Road, regulation or encouragement of trade and the control of immigration and emigration.[4] Furthermore, the defensive characteristics of the Great Wall were enhanced by the construction of watchtowers, troop barracks, garrison stations, signaling capabilities through the means of smoke or fire, and the fact that the path of the Great Wall also served as a transportation corridor. The frontier walls built by different dynasties have multiple courses. Collectively, they stretch from Liaodong in the east to Lop Lake in the west, from the present-day Sino–Russian border in the north to Tao River (Taohe) in the south; along an arc that roughly delineates the edge of the Mongolian steppe; spanning over 20,000 km (12,000 mi) in total.[5] Today, the defensive system of the Great Wall is generally recognized as one of the most impressive architectural feats in history.[6]The Great Wall of China is a prehistoric run of fortifications and walls made of bricks, wood, stone, and other materials. It is located in northern China. In ancient China, Empires were building walls around their territories to act as boundaries and provide protection to the Chinese empires and states. The building of walls began as early as the 7th century BCE; the Great Wall was formed due to the joining of the walls that had been built. It is said that the Great Wall of China is approximately over 2,300 years old with the very first wall was put up in 221 BCE.Construction Of The Great Wall Of ChinaSince various walls that were built by the Chinese empires form the Great Wall of China, there is no clear record of how long it took to construct the wall. Besides the various walls making up the Great Wall were built at different times. However, there is still no exact records to show how long the building took; archeologists suggest that all the walls that make up the Great Wall were completed in 22 centuries. After its completion, the Great wall has undergone numerous adjustments and advancements made by the various Chinese dynasties.

This is the only Chinese which last long. Now jokes apart The Great Wall of China is an ancient series of walls and fortifications, totaling more than 13,000 miles in length, located in northern China. Perhaps the most recognizable symbol of China and its long and vivid history, the Great Wall was originally conceived by Emperor Qin Shi Huang in the third century B.C. as a means of preventing incursions from barbarian nomads. The best-known and best-preserved section of the Great Wall was built in the 14th through 17th centuries A.D., during the Ming dynasty. Though the Great Wall never effectively prevented invaders from entering China, it came to function as a powerful symbol of Chinese civilization’s enduring strength.Qin Dynasty ConstructionThough the beginning of the Great Wall of China can be traced to the fifth century B.C., many of the fortifications included in the wall date from hundreds of years earlier, when China was divided into a number of individual kingdoms during the so-called Warring States Period.Around 220 B.C., Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of a unified China under the Qin Dynasty, ordered that earlier fortifications between states be removed and a number of existing walls along the northern border be joined into a single system that would extend for more than 10,000 li (a li is about one-third of a mile) and protect China against attacks from the north.Construction of the “Wan Li Chang Cheng,” or 10,000-Li-Long Wall, was one of the most ambitious building projects ever undertaken by any civilization. The famous Chinese general Meng Tian initially directed the project, and was said to have used a massive army of soldiers, convicts and commoners as workers.Made mostly of earth and stone, the wall stretched from the China Sea port of Shanhaiguan over 3,000 miles west into Gansu province. In some strategic areas, sections of the wall overlapped for maximum security (including the Badaling stretch, north of Beijing, that was later restored during the Ming Dynasty). From a base of 15 to 50 feet, the Great Wall rose some 15-30 feet high and was topped by ramparts 12 feet or higher; guard towers were distributed at intervals along it.Did you know? When Emperor Qin Shi Huang ordered construction of the Great Wall around 221 B.C., the labor force that built the wall was made up largely of soldiers and convicts. It is said that as many as 400,000 people died during the walls construction; many of these workers were buried within the wall itself.Great Wall of China Through the CenturiesWith the death of Qin Shi Huang and the fall of the Qin Dynasty, much of the Great Wall fell into disrepair. After the fall of the later Han Dynasty, a series of frontier tribes seized control in northern China. The most powerful of these was the Northern Wei Dynasty, which repaired and extended the existing wall to defend against attacks from other tribes. The Bei Qi kingdom (550–577) built or repaired more than 900 miles of wall, and the short-lived but effective Sui Dynasty (581–618) repaired and extended the Great Wall of China a number of times. With the fall of the Sui and the rise of the Tang Dynasty, the Great Wall lost its importance as a fortification, as China had defeated the Tujue tribe to the north and expanded past the original frontier protected by the wall.During the Song Dynasty, the Chinese were forced to withdraw under threat from the Liao and Jin peoples to the north, who took over many areas on both sides of the Great Wall. The powerful Yuan (Mongol) Dynasty (1206-1368), established by Genghis Khan, eventually controlled all of China, parts of Asia and sections of Europe.Though the Great Wall held little importance for the Mongols as a military fortification, soldiers were assigned to man the wall in order to protect merchants and caravans traveling along the lucrative Silk Road trade routes established during this period.

The Great Wall of China is one of the most notorious structures in the entire world. The Jinshanling section in Hebei Province, China, pictured here, is only a small part of the wall that stretches over 4,000 kilometers (2,500 miles).Apart from defense, other purposes of the Great Wall have included border controls, allowing the imposition of duties on goods transported along the Silk Road, regulation or encouragement of trade and the control of immigration and emigration.[4] Furthermore, the defensive characteristics of the Great Wall were enhanced by the construction of watchtowers, troop barracks, garrison stations, signaling capabilities through the means of smoke or fire, and the fact that the path of the Great Wall also served as a transportation corridor. The frontier walls built by different dynasties have multiple courses. Since the wall looks a lot like the stone and soil that surround it, it is difficult to discern with the human eye even from low Earth orbit, and is difficult to make out in most orbital photos. However, this does not detract from the wonder of this astounding ancient structure. For millennia, Chinese leaders instituted wall-building projects to protect the land from northern, nomadic invaders. One surviving section of such an ancient wall, in the Shandong province, is made of hard-packed soil called “rammed earth” and is estimated to be 2,500 years old. For centuries during the Warring States Period, before China was unified into one nation, such walls defended the borders.Around 220 B.C.E., Qin Shi Huang, also called the First Emperor, united China. He masterminded the process of uniting the existing walls into one. At that time, rammed earth and wood made up most of the wall. Emperor after emperor strengthened and extended the wall, often with the aim of keeping out the northern invaders. In some places, the wall was constructed of brick. Elsewhere, quarried granite or even marble blocks were used. The wall was continuously brought up to date as building techniques advanced.Zhu Yuanzhang, who became the Hongwu Emperor, took power in 1368 C.E. He founded the Ming Dynasty, famous for its achievements in the arts of ceramics and painting. The Ming emperors improved the wall with watchtowers and platforms. Most of the familiar images of the wall show Ming-era construction in the stone. Depending on how the wall is measured, it stretches somewhere between 4,000 and 5,500 kilometers (2,500 and 3,400 miles). In the 17th century, the Manchu emperors extended Chinese rule into Inner Mongolia, making the wall less important as a defense. However, it has retained its importance as a symbol of Chinese identity and culture. Countless visitors view the wall every year. It may not be clearly visible from space, but it is considered “an absolute masterpiece” here on Earth.

Amazing section of the wall anytime of the year. Challenge yourself with a sunrise hike up the wild Great Wall portion. Also catching some snow during winter on the wall is spectacular as well! Be wary of hordes of people though!

The great wall of china i have heard a lot of good things about it, the view and the great wind and air and the feeling of being there and it was great but i was also told while going there that it would be crowded and it was crowded but thats to be expected, i didnt get to see all of it but i saw a lot of it so i was slightly disappointed but overall i liked it a lot, however unfortunately there was a fight that happened by me by a group of people and they might have had bad intentions about the wall so thats why i had to cut my trip short just incase something went wrong, i would go there again

The largest man-made building. It is very difficult for children to use this building. It is also recommended that the elderly and those with heart disease do not climb the stairs. Overall this is a very exciting and unique experience.

The Great Wall of China is a huge fortress built in ancient China, and it is the largest building completed at that time, and the wall consists of many walls that were built parallel in northern China and southern Mongolia over a period of two thousand years, and extends for a distance of 5500 kilometers from east to west through Mount Hu near Dandong in the southeast of Liaoning Province, to the Jiayu Corridor in northwestern Gansu Province, and a quarter of the length of the Great Wall of China consists of natural barriers such as rivers and mountain hills, and 70% of it is an actual wall interspersed with some trenches. Currently, long sections of the wall are either destroyed or disappeared. Despite this, the Great Wall of China remains one of the most eye-catching buildings on earth.:

Very, very nice! Well, being one of the most - if not number 1 - well-known attractions in China, it was a must-to-see attraction during our one month long stay in this enormous country. Our visit in Beijing was in December of 2016, as a sort of stay over on the way to SK and JP. And the Wall definitely is a sight worth visiting (even at that time of the year)! There are many different parts of the Great Wall one can visit from Beijing. It depends a little bit on where you stay and what the public transportation schedules are at that time of the year, but briefly concluded Id suggest to try to choose one of the less heavily populated parts - if just possible. The communication in China can be quite hard at times (Im bilingual and studied 6 languages... Yeah..), but it makes the trip from the hotel by public transportation even a better experience! But no worries, there are a lot of organized tours if thats what you prefer. In Winter it gets really cold, so just arriving from Thailand, my friend bought a better (winter) jacket at the Wall. Anyhow, once you start walking a few kilometres up and down, youll soon notice the sweat dripping: bring a backpack or similar. At the entrance there were many small shops that had snacks to buy, so a decent idea is obviously to buy a chocolate bar or so if you already didnt bring some with you.If youre traveling to Beijing or planning a trip to China, definitely include this in your travel plans!

This is a section of the Great Wall much less crowded than others. It’s a couple of hours of car far from Beijing. You can reach by bus or in much simple way by private car with driver. Bring with you food and water, the prices of the shops are definetly high! Anyway it’s a such magical place. You can enjoy a beautiful panorama from up there. Worth it at all... it’s a MUST SEE PLACE!!!

I wanted to visit the Great Wall of China ever since kindergarten when I saw a program about it on TV. Not only did I see the wall, but I ran a marathon on it when I was 36 years old. That sensation of awe and satisfaction is hard to beat. I recommend it!

One of the best place Ive visited in my life. Incredible place. Its generally built across the historical northern borders of China to protect and consolidate territories of Chinese states and empires against various nomadic groups of the steppe and their polities. According to source, It is estimated that up to 1 million people died while constructing the Great Wall..

Simply amazing and historic. worth a trip to tell your friends. the thing that amazed me the most was how steep parts of the wall are. so if youre not a strong walker or in a wheelchair you will struggle. before entering the wall there are shops with toilets, food etc. basic but you can get what you need. I didnt really care what part of the wall I visited this part did not have the chair lift. I visited in February so it was -10. if you go in the winter you need some serious clothing. the wind chill is terrible. the bus from BJ is easy to catch. make sure you have some cash to pay when you are on board. in real life the wall is much more superior than any photo you have seen. make sure you visit

The touristy part of it is fully restored so it is beautiful and you can enjoy the walk, the scenery, and the crowd. Further will get you to less restored parts (work in progress) and it is easy to end up being alone in some sections. Some parts can be dangerous though, with some bouldering involved, so I wouldnt recommend going alone. Some parts of the year are very hot and I almost got dehydrated in 5H on that wall (also expect to progress slowly in remote sections)

It was an amazing experience! To see, stand on it, walk on it, climb through the stairs and gates, look out at the mountains and valleys beyond! Admiring the strength, valour, sheer gutsy determination of all the people who toiled day and night for years to build this masterpiece which is still standing after hundreds of years! a tribute to humanity.

Very poor experience at nearby hotel and there was no place to stand in corner in shade. You can visit it anytime but experience & enjoyment is in evening.Dont forget to like my comment and photo ☺🙃.

Great Wall of China is a great historical site. Fascinating to climb up and see the view all around, watch towers, and troop barracks built by Ming dynasty. No wonder it is a wonder of the world, and China has preserved it very well. Understand the Great Wall near Beijing is renovated and well maintained as a large no. of tourists visit all round the year.
