Important place to visit in Chennai. A great Tamil poet, given all vedas in simple 2 lines. His urchava vigraham (statue) is part of 63var procession in Kabaleeswarar temple.
Thiruvalluvar native place was mylapore named Thirumayilai. So there was a house in that area. Moreover, some of the people says it was his temple which turns as temple after his death when his name reached the sky. He given the Tamil book Thirukkural which tells about the human kind and the situation faced in life and how to live. It is common to whole world because it was wrotten without hurting anyone and irrespective of caste, colour, religion, country, region, language, politics etc., But the temple was quite silent many of the local people also didnt know that and also the fact that thiruvalluvar was born in mylapore. It is one of the oldest construction.
Really loved this divine place
Nice diving place to visit as we dont find temple for Tamil pulavar Thiruvalluvar, the author of Thirukural called a Ulaga podhu marai. Peaceful place spend sometime here to boost up your energy. Its just opposite to Mylapore Kabaaleswara temple. Its little difficult to find out the place as it is located in a narrow street. You can use Google Map to reach here.
A temple exclusively for the Poet Thiruvalluvar who lived and composed his poems in Tamil before 2050 years. More 1000 real poems about all aspects of life. One of the most translated books on earth.
Pleasant place, and good for children. On a quiet street in a residential area. Best for yoga and meditation
Good place to know our tamil history
Nice and calm atmosphere. Lord Siva also a primary deity. Next is Vasuki mandapam for small functions like betrothal, birthdays etc.,
This is a memorial built 400 years earlier in memory of Thiruvalluvar. But people considered Thiruvalluvar as God and performed poojas and changed the memorial in to a temple. Hence, it is called Thiruvalluvar Temple.Originally Thiruvalluvar was a memorial built in the memory of Thiruvalluvar (Tamil Poet). But people believed him as God and started performing pooja’s and converted the Memorial into a temple. Hence it is known as Thiruvalluvar Temple, located in Thiruvalluvar Koil Street, Mylapore.
Ayyan Thiruvalluvar Temple is not only His birth place but also His shrine. This is also a Hindu temple in the neighbourhood of Mylapore in Chennai, Tamilnadu, India. Believed to have been constructed in the early 16th century, the temple was extensively renovated in the 1970s.Close to the time of Valluvars death Elelasingan, a merchant at Mylapore and the disciple of Valluvar expressed his desire to place Valluvars body in a Golden Coffin and erect a monumental grave. Politely refusing his request, Valluvar requested him to tie His corpse with cords and leave it among the woods outside the town in order for the wild animals to feed on it.Elelasingan reluctantly obliged to His mentors wishes and, upon doing so observes that the crows and other animals that fed on His corpse became beautiful as GOLD. He then built a small temple on the spot where he left Ayyan Valluvars corpse and instituted worship, where it remained for centuries. In the 16th century, the present temple was built on the ruins of the old temple.
