Perarignar Anna was born on 15th September 1909 to Natarajar – Bangaru Ammal in Kancheepuram. He was fostered by his foster mother Rajamani Ammal. His wife is Rani Ammaiyar. He was born in a family with a simple background. He was a good student, Eloquent Orator, Best Writer, Editor, Honest Leader, Uncomparable Guide, Chief Minister praised by the entire Country, Scholar of intellectual world filled with efficiency in various departments.He created a knowledge revolution among the poor and simple by his sparkling speech. “Kadamai, Kanniyam, Kattupadu” – The politico – philosophical magical words were coined by him. He inculculated a sense of family relationship in politics. He was a teacher who educated us to respect others Great democratic leader.Perarignar Anna assumed office as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in 06.03.1967. He passed a resolution in the legislative assembly for making necessary amendments in the constitution for renaming as Madras State to its present day form declaring officially as Tamil Nadu. He conducted Second World Tamil conference on January 1968 in Chennai. He legalised self-respect marriages for the first time in the country. He conducted ‘Salem Oprising day’ all over Tamil Nadu pursuing Central Government to implement Salem Scheme. He created an Organisation called seerani. He inaugurated coown Restructuring Scheme. He added glony to the savants of Tamil by erecting Statues in Beach Road Chennai. He held the procession of World Tamil Conference in Chennai; He made an arrangement for sanctioning Rs.9 lakhs for Research in Tirukural to the Universities of Tamil Nadu. He passed resolution in legislative assembly introducing – Two language Policy Comprising Mother tongue – Tamil and World language English. He travelled to America, Japan and Singapore. He was awarded the Chubb fellowship at Yale University, USA. He was the first non-American to receive this honour. He met Pope in Vatican City.Tamil Nadu Government has raised a Memorial for Perarignar Anna in Marina Beach, where he is on eternal sleep and has created Anna Square with never lit-off lamp. Sound equipment facilities are arranged in Anna Square for paying heed to Tamil spoken by Anna. Anna Books selling store adds beauty to Anna Square.The portrait of Perarignar Anna was unveiled in Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on 1069. Government of India released 20 paise Postage Stamp in commomoration of Anna in 3rd February 1970. One of the Major Roads in Chennai was named in his honour, Anna Salai in 1971 which was previously called as Mount Road. Two ships purchased by the Government of Tamil Nadu were named as ‘M.V. Tamil Anna’ and ‘Tamil Anna’.The University of Technology started by the Government of Tamil Nadu in Guindy in the year 1978 was named as Anna University by the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, Puratchi Thalaivar Dr.M.G.R. The house where Anna was born in Kancheepuram was changed as ‘Anna Ninaivu Illam’ by the Government of Tamilnadu headed by Puratchi Thalaivar Dr.MGR in 16th September 1980. The International Terminal in Chennai Airport was named as “Anna International Terminal” in 1990.Peraignar Anna won the hearts of people by his words, speeches and writings. His plays Velaikkaari, Or iravu, Nalla thambi and his works Arya Mayai, Kambarrasam and Romapuri Raanigal are Governmentised by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Puratchi Thalaivi from the year 1994 onwards. Perarignar Anna breathed his in 03.02.1968.Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Selvi J Jayalalithaa has ordered to arrange for drinking water facilities at a cost of Rs.21.66 lakhs in Perarignar Anna and Dr.M.G.R. Memorials to the cater; the drinking water needs of Public and Tourists visiting Perarignar Anna and Dr.M.G.R. Memorials. As per the order of the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Selvi J Jayalalithaa, Rs.77 lakh fund has been alloted for maintanence, preservation and cleaning works through outsourcing in Perarignar Anna and Dr.M.G.R. memorials and the works are undergoing.
